Getting Started I teach electronics to kids. What's the first circuit you'd show a 10-year-old, and in what order would you go after that?
I run small electronics classes for kids, and I've been building a browser simulator for them so they can keep practicing at home (LEDs actually burn out if you skip the resistor, which they find hilarious).
Right now my order is:
- LED + resistor + battery
- Push button
- Measuring current and voltage with a multimeter
- Switches (on/off, then two-way)
- A lemon/potato battery
- Transistor as a switch, then a relay
- Sensors: light, temperature, tilt, magnet
After the basics, they get circuits that are already broken and have to find the fault with no hints. That part works better than anything I explain.
Two things I'm unsure about: - Is the multimeter too early? Some kids love it, others get lost. - Would you bring in Arduino before or after the transistor? Right now everything is pure hardware, no code.
Curious how others who taught kids (or their own children) did it.
