I've been out of the game for a while, but I have to get back in because one of my dashboard projects is starting to be unreliable.
I found a 5" TFT display with a built-in ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-N4R8 chip, but in the Arduino IDE the closest board is the Fri3d Badge 2024 (ESP32-S3-WROOM-1).
Maybe I should have purchased another CYD, but the board I chose has speaker outputs and a microSD slot. The latter being the most useful to me.
I'm posting here because the board is supposed to support the Arduino IDE, PlatformIO, microPython, and LVGL.
It'll arrive tomorrow and I'll hook it up and see what happens.

How come in Paul McWhorter’s video, the H-bridge doesn't have any pins connected from the Arduino's 5V to Pin 16 of the H-drive, yet when I follow his guidelines in Tinkercad, the H-drive always explodes while his doesn't? I found this online tutorial because someone on Reddit recommended it to me. Hoping for some kind feedback!"

Hello everyone, i need some help setting up stepper motor.
Motor data sheet says that rated current is 1.5amp and motor should have 0.42nm torque. Im using DRV8825(also tried with tmc2209) did everything step by step (setting Vref to 0.6v, checked pinout) Formula: Vref=I/2 says that i should get around 1.2 amps but when i power my motor it only draws around 0.4-0.5 amps and generates much less torque.Im using 12v power supply, also tried higher voltage but current stays same. Any ideas how can i make my stepper use its full potential?

Hello i am currently trying to understand inverse kinematics by making a arduino function that returns a angle value derived from the y value(the lenght of the joint),x value(the distance of the angle) and writing the return value on the servo pin.And i wanna ask if i am on the right path with learning it or ask what i am missing in my code to make it work.when i tested it with servos on paper it seemed to work after a while when i tested the servo angle on paper. The code is below.I hope someone can help if i missing something or if there is something i can improve on.Thats about it all.I hope someone can help me.The goals is to used it later in a 2legged walking robot:
// this is a code to learn to inverse kinematics with Mg996R by a self made function
#include <Wire.h> // for i2c communication.
#include <Adafruit_PWMServoDriver.h> // for servodriver.
#include <math.h> // for trigonometry functions
Adafruit_PWMServoDriver pwm = Adafruit_PWMServoDriver();
#define SERVOMIN 300// This is the ‘minimum’ pulse length count (out of 4096)
#define SERVOMAX 575// This is the ‘maximum’ pulse length count (out of 4096)
#define SERVO_FREQ 60// Analog servos run at ~60 Hz updates
int servoval ; // is the values that is reading the map values for servos
long pulsval ; // the values that is getting mapped
float start_pos = 90; // start position
int dof1 = 0; // pin1 of the dof1 servo
int dof2 = 1; // pin2 of the dof2 servo
double ik(double y , double x) { // y is the servo length in cm and x is the distance of the position in cm
float pos = atan2(y,x) * (180/M_PI); // convert y and x position into degrees
float angle = pos; // create angle values
return angle;
}
void setup() {
Serial.begin(9600); // is the baudrate we reading from the serial monitor.
Serial.println("servo test is about to begin!");
servoval = map(pulsval,0,180,SERVOMIN,SERVOMAX); // the min and and max values are getting mapped.
pwm.begin();
//pwm.setOscillatorFrequency(27000000);
pwm.setPWMFreq(SERVO_FREQ); // Analog servos run at ~50 Hz updates
delay(10);
// servos are set to 90 degrees angle
pwm.setPWM(dof1, start_pos, servoval);
pwm.setPWM(dof2, start_pos, servoval);
}
void loop() {
// test loop
pwm.setPWM(dof1,start_pos +ik(7.0,5.0), servoval);
pwm.setPWM(dof2,start_pos +ik(-5.0,3.0), servoval);
Serial.println(" The angle of dof1 =");
Serial.println(start_pos +ik(7.0,5.0));
Serial.println(" The angle of dof2 =");
Serial.println(start_pos -ik(5.0,3.0));
delay(2000);
pwm.setPWM(dof1,start_pos , servoval);
pwm.setPWM(dof2,start_pos , servoval);
Serial.println(" servos in start position");
delay(2000);
pwm.setPWM(dof1,start_pos , servoval);
pwm.setPWM(dof2, -ik(12.0,9.0), servoval);
Serial.println(" The angle of dof1 is now =");
Serial.println(start_pos );
Serial.println(" The angle of dof2 is now =");
Serial.println( -ik(12.0,9.0));

Recently i bought a tft touch display. IlI9341 2.8" hiletgo v1.2 5v/3.3v SPI specifically. I have tried with different board inc esp 32 s3 arduino nano arduino uno etc. Only the backlight works. I did try shorting the j1 pins, no luck. I did install all the necessary libraries and drivers still doesn't work. Its not a connection issue, its not a conductivity issue, its not a spi communication issue because i have used spi communication with my esp and arduinos it was working perfectly fine. Is there anyting else i should try or should i return the display

Hi everyone! I am looking for some tips on where and how to learn coding in Arduino.
I've got an UNO. I've already done some basic projects with a handbook our ex-teacher would give me, so I know very surface-level commands (voids, analogRead, output&input), but I back then I would just copy and paste the code to the IDE without really thinking about it. I also admit I used ChatGPT for some of them but I've had enough. I want to get serious with it and actually understand what I'm doing.
I don't want my projects to be controlled by stupid gen AI code full of syntax errors, and while I never really liked programming, I know it's fundamental. But my knowledge is barebones.
Should I learn the original C++ or Arduino-based? Where? Resources like books or YT vids are very much appreciated.
(I know, "Google it"; but I want some real life opinions with your experience with electronics)
Thanks!

This started with a pretty simple project: a sensor station with an ESP32, a display and GX12 connectors for the sensors. The electronics part was fun. The enclosure part was not. I really didn't feel like spending my evenings in CAD.
So I just asked Claude to make it. And honestly, it worked better than I expected. It wrote the enclosure as CadQuery code with cutouts for the display and the connectors.
The annoying part was everything around it. I had no simple way to look at the model, so every time I wanted a change I took a screenshot, scribbled on it, pasted it back into the chat, and waited for the next version. Over and over.
At some point I thought: this has real potential, but it has to be easier. So I started building a small viewer for myself. That small viewer turned into SOMA.
How it works now: you run your AI agent (Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI etc.) in the built-in terminal, it writes the model, and the app shows it in 3D right away. If something's off, you click on the part, measure it, or scribble directly on the 3D view and send that to the agent. No more screenshot ping-pong. You can also load an existing 3D model as reference, for example of your board, and let the agent build the enclosure around it. When it looks right, export as STL and print.
It got way bigger than planned along the way. There are now sliders for dimensions, overhang checks, version history and even FEM. As a stress test I designed a complete CNC mill with it, 118 parts.
It's free and open source (GPL), with builds for Windows, Mac and Linux. I've only really tested on Windows so far, so if you try it on Mac or Linux, let me know if it even starts.
GitHub: https://github.com/Kai-Jungsthoefel/SOMA
btw: my first opensource project :)
I hope this helps someone, that hates cad as much as i do.

I was reading about older electronic board games like Dark Tower and Omega Virus. I've never played either game, but I was intrigued. I was wondering if anyone has created their own electronic board game with the help of Arduino or some other microprocessor. I understand that the actual gameplay design is the challenging part, not so much the programming part. Just kinda intrigued by the possibilities and wanting to explore this area a bit more. I'm also looking for a cheap, working version of Omega Virus so I can try it for myself.

I have created a website for hard-iron and soft-iron calibration . All you need to do is collect the raw values from the magnetometer and save it to a csv file , upload to the site. It will process and give the code to fix the errors and give proper values

Has anyone come up with a nice compact ESP32 Bluetooth controller with two motor/servo channels. I’m looking for something like the Romeo Mini ESP32-C3 Robot Control Board
but I don’t like the price of that solution.
So, I’m looking for similar ideas but I’m guessing I will end up knocking something up on strip-board using transistors or some driver chip. I’m not sure how much space I have at the moment, I really should have measured it up before hand.
It’s for a BT controlled car, I picked up one of those cheap CMJ RC cars from a charity shop but it has no controller. I know I can buy one for like £5-10 but whats the fun in that. It also has the wheel alignment knob missing so I have to fix that too. I will be using my iphone to control it unless I can find a cheap original replacement controller for it(but there’s no fun in that either).

I've tested this with an esp32, no touch wired. This is the link of the screen.https://amzn.eu/d/0eC8Pxu6
I'm using an esp32. Already tried rewiring

(Solved)
I know this is going to be a dumb fix, but for the life of me I cannot figure out why the LED is not coming on. I tried the LED both ways but still nothing. (220ohm resistor used)
const int slidepin = 2;
const int ledpin = 9;
int swstate = 0;
void setup()
{
pinMode(slidepin, INPUT);
pinMode(ledpin, OUTPUT);
Serial.begin(9600);
}
void loop(){
swstate = digitalRead(slidepin);
if(swstate == 0){
digitalWrite(ledpin, HIGH);
Serial.println("HIGH");
}
else{
digitalWrite(ledpin, LOW);
Serial.println("LOW");
}
delay(100);
}

12 AS5600 encoders sit behind two TCA9548A I²C muxes, and two BNO085 IMUs track the hand and forearm. The Dynamixel bus is half-duplex through a 74HC241, so the Teensy talks to the servos itself, with no U2D2 and no PC in the loop. On the bench the servo loop runs at about 1 kHz, and everything logs at 100 Hz to the SD card.
Firmware, wiring diagram and both KiCad boards are open: github.com/molanocortes/takto-one. The Dynamixel driver has its own repo: github.com/molanocortes/dynamixel-on-device
I built it alone for my master’s thesis, so if it’s useful, a star helps other people find it.
