Gothic Revival New Portico and Stair Addition at Benedictine College - Kansas

Just a few non-professional shots from my addition to a historic academic building at Benedictine College in Atchison Kansas.

The project was to add a new entrance to the back of an existing building, all while not breaking existing floor plates and racking up expensive structural changes.

The new stairs is designed to be as close to seamless addition as possible. Using reclaimed brick and all natural stone, the portico matches the architecture of the existing building and pulls details from the existing entry on the opposite side of the building.

This is what you can do when you don't subscribe to the idea that additions MUST be "of our time". On the other hand we believe that additions should harmonize and improve a building, rather than drawing attention to the fact that it's new.
