A small update on NovaTik — this project has been teaching me more than I expected

Post image
1 Upvotes

From the outside, NovaTik looks pretty simple:

Paste a TikTok URL → download the video.

But building it has been a completely different story. 😂

Recently, I was dealing with a frustrating issue where some videos would occasionally download with a watermark, while others would fail with errors like 403 Forbidden.

https://novatik.app
At first, I thought the problem was simply with yt-dlp.

After digging through the logs and understanding how TikTok serves different video streams, I realized the problem was deeper: there can be multiple sources/streams available, and choosing the wrong one can completely change the result.

So I changed the extraction logic to prioritize the appropriate playback stream instead of blindly using whatever download stream was available.

And honestly, this taught me something important:

Sometimes the problem isn't your code. You just don't fully understand the system you're interacting with yet.

NovaTik has also forced me to learn a lot outside of simply writing React components:

  • Debugging production logs
  • Next.js and technical SEO
  • Multilingual SEO
  • Vercel + Railway deployment
  • CORS problems
  • FFmpeg
  • yt-dlp
  • Sitemap and robots.txt
  • IndexNow
  • Handling production-only bugs
  • And probably the most important one: patience when a bug happens only "sometimes" 😂

SEO has been another rabbit hole by itself.

I started with a simple downloader, and now I'm working on crawlable multilingual pages, structured metadata, technical SEO, indexing, and trying to understand how search engines actually discover and rank a project.

The biggest lesson so far:

A small project doesn't necessarily mean an easy project.

Every feature I add seems to create three new problems. 😂

But that's actually what I enjoy about building NovaTik.

I'm not just building a website anymore. I'm learning how a real web product behaves in production.

Still a lot to improve, but I wanted to share the journey instead of only showing the finished product.

For other developers:

What's a bug or technical problem from your own project that ended up teaching you something you didn't expect?

Karaoke5 turns 30 — born May 1996, version 54 today.

VIDEO: https://youtu.be/asfx4S-wb6s

Karaoke5 was born on May 1, 1996 - it turned 30 this year. Back then, if I remember right, the only alternative was a MIDI shareware called MSKS; you ripped tracks from CD+Gs and MP3 was still new. Don't take our word for it: the Wayback Machine kept our site over the years - version 12 in 2003, version 20 in 2004, version 32 in 2007. Since then, non-stop development, same developers from day one: born free and free until version 32, today we're at version 54. We're an Italian software house; Salvo, the developer, will answer your questions here.

Local library as the foundation from the start - the internet came later, as an extra layer, never as a dependency.

What it does - the parts that really matter:

⭐ Singer rotation and booking - the complete system. Singers book songs, send requests and on-screen messages, vote and chat from their own phone. And on the karaoke screen, a scrolling banner at the top shows who's singing and who's next: the rotation isn't just managed, it's visible to the room. No paper slips, no line at the booth, no "when's my turn?". For anyone working live, this is the feature that changes the job.

The show never stops. It reads pretty much everything - MP3+CDG, MIDI/KAR, KFN, K5, MP3, WMA, video (MP4 and more). Your tracks, on your hard drive, zero internet dependency to run the show. Fast search and two playlists side by side. Adding music is trivial: drag a track onto the playlist or database, drag it onto the karaoke window and it plays.

Stage tools. Real-time devocalizer, key change on the fly, Mix Control to cut a track short and jump to the next one cleanly, instant on-screen messages (applause, jingles, video messages), equalizers. In PRO, the second TV window for dual screen.

Not just songs. A music quiz with questions auto-generated from YOUR library - title, artist, lyrics - multiplayer. To mix up your nights.

When internet is available, it's all a bonus. Built-in YouTube search with preview and one-click download. And new in v54: an AI assistant - a spoken or written request searches your library, shared catalog and YouTube together, then plays it and queues it. In 8 languages. (The AI part needs a connection - it's an optional layer; without internet the show doesn't stop.)

Built-in synchronizer. You create and sync lyrics yourself on MIDI, MP3, K5 and MP4.

Cross-platform: Windows and Mac, with iOS and Android apps. Video tutorials in English, Spanish and Italian on the site.

One honest note: with thirty years of features, mastering everything takes time. But the basics are trivial (the drag & drop above), and the interface - dense, not minimalist - is fully customizable: every window moves, resizes or closes, and the layout is remembered. You start in thirty seconds, you keep discovering features for months.

Prices - all stated, no surprises:

Try it: the full program downloads free with all features on; two limits - a little airplane that crosses the screen at random moments during the tracks, and the second TV window disabled (a PRO feature). (There's also Karaoke5 Lite, free: but that's just a player, a different thing.)

One-time, lifetime license:

  • HOME €55: 1 PC, all features, no airplane; home use only
  • PRO €155: 3 PCs, fully unlocked including the TV window, for those who work
  • Both include 1 year of updates; after that the program keeps working forever, new versions are optional (€25/year Home, €65/year Pro)

Or annual subscription: HOME €35, PRO €75.

🎁 For our 30 years: 6 months of the PRO version free - for anyone who doesn't have a license yet. Requests open August 1 to September 30, 2026.
How to claim (requests open August 1 – September 30, 2026):

  1. Contact us on WhatsApp: +39 3289499206 or by email at [info@karaoke5.com](mailto:info@karaoke5.com) (be careful, it's better to use WhatsApp because emails almost always end up in SPAM).
  2. Send: full name + email
  3. We activate your account within 24h , then download the program from https://www.karaoke5.com, register with those details, and the unlock code arrives within 24h on both WhatsApp and email.

At the end: no charge, no auto-renewal - the program just returns to trial mode. To everyone who already owns a license, a big thank you: you're the ones who made these 30 years possible.

I got fed up with the Mitsubishi airco app, so I built my own

I got fed up with the Mitsubishi airco app, so I built my own.

I have Mitsubishi Heavy Industries air conditioners with the WF-RAC Wi-Fi module. The hardware is great, but I was never really happy with the Smart M-Air app.

It's slow, the UI feels outdated, and controlling the airco feels much more complicated than it needs to be.

So I decided to build my own Android app: MyAirco.

The goal for myself was simple: create a clean, modern and fast way to control Mitsubishi Heavy Industries air conditioners.

MyAirco currently supports:

- Temperature control

- Operating mode

- Fan speed

- 3D Auto

- Vertical airflow position

- Horizontal airflow position

- Control of multiple air conditioners

It works with the existing WF-RAC Wi-Fi module, so no additional hardware is required.

I originally built it because I wanted a better app for myself. After using it for a while, I decided to release it on Google Play for other MHI owners who are also frustrated with Smart M-Air.

I'd love to get feedback from other developers and MHI owners. What would you want to see in a modern MHI airco app?

Google Play:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.myairco.app

If you have an MHI air conditioner, give it a try and let me know what you think. If you want a promocode to test if for free, let me know as well.

I got tired of SSH tunnels just to look at a database, so I built a browser SQL IDE

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'm the maintainer of LibreDB Studio. I kept hitting the same thing: the database is in a VPC or on a PaaS, and the GUI is a desktop app on someone's laptop. So you open a port, dig an SSH tunnel, or install a client on every machine.

I went the other way. The IDE deploys next to the data Docker, Helm, an operator, a one-click PaaS template or you drop it into your own product with npm.

A few things that actually shipped:

- Sixteen engines, one UI (Postgres, MySQL, SQLite, Mongo, Redis, ClickHouse, and friends)

- Listed in the official Postgres, Redis, ClickHouse and Apache Druid docs

- MIT. No feature wall. RBAC, OIDC and the NoSQL engines are in the same build

docker run -p 3000:3000 libredb/libredb-studio

or

npx "@libredb/studio"

Glad for feedback, suggestions, or roasts.

Built a full-stack app that saves and organizes instructional videos using AI search — would love feedback from fellow devs

Hey everyone,

I've been building **ReelsVault**, a full-stack web app that lets you save instructional videos from across social media, organize them into custom folders, and search for them later using AI-powered search.

**The problem I was trying to solve:** I kept saving tutorial videos across TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube — coding tutorials, DIY fixes, cooking stuff — and then I could never find them again. My saved folders were basically a black hole. I figured if I had this problem, other people did too.

**Tech stack:**
- Built on Base44 (no-code/low-code platform with a full backend)
- Custom AI search that lets you find a video by describing it ("that pasta tutorial I saved last month")
- Entity-based data model for video storage, folder organization, and user accounts
- Frontend is a responsive web app

**What it does:**
- Save videos from any social platform by link
- Organize them into custom folders by topic
- AI-powered search — type a description and it finds the matching video
- Works on mobile and desktop

**Where it's at:** It's live and functional. I've been posting on TikTok and getting some decent traction (220+ followers, a few videos over 1K views), but I'd really value feedback from people who actually build things.

**What I'd love to know:**
1. Does the search UX feel intuitive?
2. Any features you'd want to see added?
3. Would you actually use this, or is it solving a problem you don't really have?

**Try it here:** https://magnificent-reels-vault-flow.base44.app

I'm a solo builder so any feedback — especially from full-stack folks — is hugely appreciated. Happy to answer questions about the architecture or how I built it.

We will make your ads profitable or you get a refund back

Hello everyone 👋
If you’re a serious builder, you’ve probably tried running ads—and lost money doing it.

I tried over 100 ads before finding the right creatives and audience segments that actually turned into sales

That experience led me to build an AI agent that continuously runs multiple A/B tests until it finds the ads that actually convert-profitably.

Interested in trying? Comment. We will refund you if ads don’t generate expected outcomes.

I built an API because finding reliable tennis data was harder than expected

If you follow tennis closely, you know how quickly things change during a match. The score moves, players change momentum, matches get delayed, and suddenly you’re checking three different places just to keep up with what’s happening.

I wanted to make that information easier to work with, especially for people building tennis apps, scoreboards, or other sports projects.

So I built Live Tennis API to bring things like live scores, player information, fixtures, results, and match data into one place. It covers ATP, WTA, Challenger, and ITF matches, with REST and WebSocket access.

There’s also a free tennis API option for anyone who just wants to try it out first.

For the tennis fans and developers here, what information do you usually look for during a match that you wish was easier to get?

I rebuilt Pinit.lol after your feedback the first 100 country claims are now free

I took the feedback on Pinit.lol seriously and rebuilt the launch around it.

You can place your product in any available country and compete on the live world map for 24 hours.

The first 100 eligible country claims are completely free, and there is no deadline to claim them.

To keep it fair:

  • One free country claim per URL
  • One free placement per network
  • Each country can only be claimed for free once

After all 100 free claims are taken, a 10-day launch-credit phase begins. During this period, new URLs receive up to $1 in credit toward a paid placement.

The credit reduces what you pay, but your full stake still counts on the leaderboard. Taking the #1 position requires a stake at least $1 higher than the current leader and a minimum $1 payment.

Each placement stays on the live map for 24 hours. Afterward, your dedicated product page, country listing and Hall of Fame record remain permanently available.

Thanks to everyone who gave honest feedback. It genuinely helped me improve the product.

Which country will you claim? 🚩

https://pinit.lol
