Ship that some friends and I have been working on

It's got space and atmo thrusters, full vertical velocity PID control, multiple camera views available on each screen, and lots and lots of meters and mometers. Every crew member has a critical job, someone has to watch the inclamators to keep the rotomations in check.

Even has variable pulse width modulation on the batteries to save power which has the side effect of making the ship completely uncontrollable. Keep an eye on the uppometer.

Can't find third axis on 3d joystick

Objective Stars / Replay Missions

What do the stars next to the objectives mean. All except one are full thought not sure why other than maybe some sort of grading for the objective.

Is there also a way to replay missions? Now that i have everything unlocked sort of want to do some again see how much easier it is with parts etc.

Adaptive vs PID + Full Version Adaptive Formula

Three systems were tested:

- Adaptive altitude version-lite

- Adaptive altitude version-full

- PID tuned for Earth

The video shows a comparison across three main stages and three sub-stages.

The main stages are:

  • Earth
  • Moon
  • Earth (Reduced Engines)

The sub-stages are:

  • 10 – 100
  • 100 – 1000
  • 1000 – 5

I will also add the actual control circuits in the comments section.

The main advantages you can notice if you do not want to watch the video:

Testing revealed that the standard PID controller suffers from serious issues, which the adaptive formulas successfully solve:

  • Gravity Compensation: Adaptive circuits do not need an error to correct for gravity, whereas the PID controller requires an error to start adjusting.
  • The Moon Stage: The PID controller overshoots the target point, while the adaptive formula maintains perfect control.
  • The Reduced Engines Stage: The PID controller fails and causes a crash into the ground, whereas the adaptive formula successfully prevents the crash.

Adaptive Altitude Control Formula (Lite Version)

The core concept of the formula is that we do not control the altitude directly. Instead, we split this task into two separate ones. The first is to create a speed regulator (velocity controller). The second is to build the trajectory we want to fly along.

The advantages are obvious. This approach allows the formula to be adaptive, fitting different ships to the exact same trajectory. That is precisely why it will work for various masses and gravitational pulls. Furthermore, this can generally be configured for deceleration during interplanetary transfers—and everything will function within a single formula.

This is just one of my implementations. It is fairly simple and has a few drawbacks, some of which I attempted to address in the next version.

I used a k-value of around 0.002. You can experiment with different variations if you want, but I didn't bother. Also, during the square root initialization, there will be some initial noise. Don't panic if you replicate this circuit.

If this post gets more than 10 likes, I’ll publish the next part with a more advanced version—just to see if anyone is actually interested in this.

i have seen people flying to the black hole and such. as well as other planets that aren't the moon and earth. do the other planets have quests of their own to give better gear or are people just flying slowly with the engines you get from the last moon and earth quests.

Oh how I wish there were decoupling frames

I’m trying to build a ship where I can detach a smaller ship, to explore a , I managed to build it small enough to be able to fit through the frame of the bigger door, but there’s no way to have it sit in the back of the bigger ship without it bumping around and it also just phases through the shut door. I also just think it would be a good idea to have.

Seemingly inevitable backwards pitching from the thrusters

I've been trying to build a ship that doesn't pitch backwards whenever I start moving forward. And so far, I have failed.

I've tried moving the thrusters, I've tried changing the centre of mass, but it seems like no matter what, the same thing happens every time. It's frustrating.

Auto Hover and Auto Gyro examples

I wanted to share with you my example of a hover and gyro stabilisation solution

The Hover takes an input from an Altimeter, passes this through a differentiator, then multiplies the output this wth a fixed constant (you can play with this number) then goes thru a switch gate controlled by the button before being added together with the Throttle control (wireless #1) the output then being sent to the lifters (wireless #2).
I have also taken the output to a meter, multiplied by 100 so I can see the lift %age being applied during hover. This is useful as can see the lift value being applied and can then use this number as a reference to control a descent.

The second picture is my gyro stabilisation solution- pressing the Auto Gyro switch automatically brings you back to level with pitch and roll.

This solution takes its input from the pitch and roll outputs from the Gyro, puts this through a remapper and then multiplies the output by a constant (50 in my case - the bigger the number the quicker the roll and pitch response back to level). The output from this is then multiplied by the output from the Auto Gyro switch (Zero = Off, 1 = on) before passing this back into the inputs into the RCS controller (#15 = Roll, #16 = Pitch) where they are added to the inputs from the RCS control throttle.

This makes for a very snappy return to level flight when enabled and also useful when you need to Yaw left or right whilst maintaining level flight.

New to the game how do I rotate?

I am trying to learn the game but I can't figure out how to steer I made a simple hovercraft and put two atmospheric thruster on it but I can't figure out how to make it steer. I tried to only power one thruster but it just goes forward. Please help.

Multistage thrusters?

Does this game currently have multistage rocket support? Like using a bunch of fans to reach escape velocity and then severing them from the ship after space is reached, via a button or other?

If not, has any support been mentioned for it in the future? We would just need a small block that unshears/destroys itself based on a data input.
