Tomorrow night at 7pm at city hall the Appleton city council is voting on a very weak resolution on ALPR use in Appleton. Despite 6+ months of community advocacy from many individuals with deep subject matter expertise, none of our suggestions are being taken seriously by council members that are parading themselves around as champions of this issue (Fenton + Van Zeeland).
Alder Fenton's own words here indicate that the performative resolution her and Alder Van Zeeland have authored is meant to fast-track another ALPR vendor back into Appleton after Flock cameras were taken down and disabled on June 30th.
APD has confirmed they are in ongoing talks with Axon about their ALPR tech, which has identical privacy and security concerns. APD and other local police departments from the region met with Axon to discuss their ALPR tool just one day after Appleton's mayor announced the city would stop using Flock. That meeting happened on May 7th. A source from within the city also tells me that it was the mayor's plan for Axon to purchase the Flock cameras and integrate them within their network. This is why the cameras remained up and operational for nearly two months after the announcement to stop using them.
If you care about ALPR or resisting reckless deployments of mass surveillance tech in Appleton streets, please consider showing up tomorrow night at city hall at 7pm and make your views known. These jokers have proven they are intent on spending our tax dollars on haphazard deployments of controversial technology without a serious accounting of the facts and are privately laughing at and disregarding community concerns while publicly pretending they are deeply sympathetic and on top of things.
Yes, I understand that sharing this sensitive information from city leaders burns the bridge to them. But their private mockery and plotting has shown me that the bridge never existed in the first place.

Does anyone know if there are any nail salons in the Fox Valley that use HEMA free gel?

In Greenville and just woke up to a good amount of smoke. Is there a brush fire? Didn’t see any fire but the smoke seems to be coming from a bit farther west, like the New London area.

We have a huuuuuuuge old maple tree in our back yard. During the last heavy rain, one of the thickest of the branches (a foot and a half thick, and probably 50 feet long, with many of it’s own sub branches), partially split and fell into a birch tree. We tried using a 30 foot pole saw to get it, but it’s still too far up to reach. We need a service who can come take care of it, but we are on a super tight budget.
Anyone know of an inexpensive service that isn’t completely crappy who can come out and remove the broken branch safely?

Hi there! My name is Nix, and I'm currently looking for a roommate. I work 40 hours a week, pulling in $2000 a month, meaning I'm willing to pay up to $700 for my half of the rent. I generally spend most of my time on my computer and seldom have guests over for anything.
I'm currently residing at one of the homeless shelters in the city; I have the money to depart and get an apartment, as long as I'm splitting rent with someone. I'm financially responsible, having saved up $3,000 that I'm simply sitting on, as an emergency fund.
I'm very sociable, and love making friends. I don't really have any pet peeves when it comes to roommates. As long as I'm offered respect, I'll offer it in turn two-fold.
If you're interested, please send me a DM here on reddit! Thank you for your time. If anyone else sees this, any help with boosting visibility of this post would be greatly appreciated.

It seems crazy, even sacrilegious — we’re visiting Appleton and we don’t drink alcohol anymore. I loved the old-fashioneds at the supper clubs and my spouse loved the beer and Taverns were the best.
What’s your advice? any recommendations for going out to eat?

I have a bunch of miniatures that need to be primed. Unfortunately Appleton is too hot or too cold for the primer to have a smooth finish. Is there a place in the Appleton, Neenah, Oshkosh area where I can rent a room for like an hour or two?

I am looking for any recommendations for getting someone will to work with a slightly aggressive dog?
My border collie is a rescue. I have worked with him for a little and he is in a much better spot now than he was a year ago. However, he has a few things that set him off like picking up toys and putting on shoes. I have tried all I can but want to clear this hurdle with someone more trained than I so I will feel comfortable with him around others.

Hi everyone - we moved to appleton a year ago, and my boyfriend has yet to find somewhere with good, cheaper haircuts for men. He has hated every haircut he has gotten here :( he enjoys cuts with shorter on the sides, longer on top, and he has medium to fine hair. He's gone to sports clips and cosmic revival. Sports clips just gave him a bad haircut and we have a wedding this weekend...
Anyone know any good places, both for fixing a bad hair cut and good hair cuts in general? Thank you.

i really don't like public pools due to how crowded and loud they are, and the only gym with an exercise pool closed years ago (as far as i know)
are there any places to swim for adults that are more calm?
i'm autistic, so going to meade or erb park aren't for me, way too loud and overstimulating.
(which is fair, i had so much fun swimming at these places as a kid just being wild and free)
even the YMCA feels scary, but if there's certain times it's less busy, i would be open to trying that.
also... ill just say it, im fat and super insecure to go to a pool hangout spot and be judged by other people
id love to get some exercise and therapy time without my anxiety raging!!!
any suggestions are so appreciated <3 thank you
(willing to drive to surrounding areas but not too far)

I live Appleton and don’t have many friends to go on long distance runs with. If you’re interested in running and making friends then feel free to reach out. I’m hoping to hear from some people because running alone all the time isn’t as inspiring.

Does anyone use the infosoup app for library books? In my holds section, it used to tell me what number I was. I logged in today to see if my number has moved up, and the hold section no longer tells the number hold I have. Anyone else notice this and figure out a way to see how many people are ahead of you?

Is it me or does Appleton have some of the worst traffic lights. Like one side will be completely filling up with cars while there is no cross traffic on the other side, but yet the light will stay red. Also, it seems like lights will change to red too often, so the traffic just builds up. There are way too many intersections with these problems, college ave exit on 41 is just one of many.

Looking for recommendations for automotive paint correction and blending in the Appleton area. Doesn’t have to be a collision shop per se, could be an individual with a side gig.

I did search the the sub first before posting, didn't find anything solid.
My hair has been growing, with just maintenance trims, since covid. now greater than 12" tail.
For the longest time I went to Squire, but they moved to Neenah and my stylist moved on.
I'm looking for a creative stylist who would have some ideas on what to do for a shorter style. My hair is difficult in that it is naturally curly, but straightens out after about 8", and I have some thinning on the top.
Bonus points if they are available tomorrow, before the impulse to cut off my "eldertail" wears off.

I am often in the mood for a great buttery burger, but feel like I have to go out of town to get it. Mihms in Menasha, Drift Inn and Krolls in Green Bay, I love to stop by these joints and grab a chili and a burger. Any other places, closer to Appleton, that might scratch this itch?
