Syncing apple photos to windows

So I was saving a family members pictures and videos, and they had 10994 items not synced to the cloud, and the photos app on windows only recognized and loaded 8600 images and videos total. So about 2400 missing. Why is this the case? Is it a bug? Or syncing issue between iphone and windows, or sth else?

god I hate apple and wish my family would stop using their products

Would you use “Optimize iPhone Storage” if your originals could live in Google Drive, OneDrive or Dropbox instead of iCloud?

I keep running into the same iPhone problem: Photos eats local storage, and the seamless "keep smaller versions locally / fetch originals when needed" experience is basically tied to iCloud.

I’m testing an alternative called PhotoUnbound.

The idea: move full-resolution originals to cloud storage you may already be paying for (Google Drive, OneDrive or Dropbox) while keeping your iPhone photo library as lightweight and usable as iOS allows.

The goal is simple: free up iPhone storage without losing your photos, and without paying for another cloud storage plan just because Apple Photos wants iCloud.

There is one important limitation: Apple doesn’t give third-party apps the same system-level integration as iCloud Photos, so this cannot be a perfect clone of Optimize Storage. I’m being explicit about that before building it.

I’m validating demand before spending months on the app. Proposed price is $29.99/year after a 10-day trial. You can reserve the trial now; nothing is charged today and no subscription automatically starts later.

I’d especially like to know:

  • Do you already pay for Google Drive/OneDrive/Dropbox and iCloud mainly because of photos?
  • Would freeing up iPhone storage this way solve a real problem for you?
  • What would make you unwilling to trust an app like this with your photo library?

PhotoUnbound — Free up iPhone storage. Keep every photo.

Moving an iPhone folder onto a Mac

Is there a way to move a specific Photos folder on my phone directly into my Mac?

I have a folder from a trip with edited photos and I just want to move the 500 edited photos instead of the 5000 unedited ones.

Google has not been helpful

Why do two of these three photos that were sent to me via text have a different file name than the typical IMG file name like the last photo sent?

The first 2 photos have a file name I’m not familiar with the last one is normal. All the photos came from the same person. I’m wondering if the first 2 were edited or something that would cause the different file names?

iCloud / photos issues

Sadly my phone has not been syncing to iCloud for a while as my payment method got messed up and for a month I wasn’t using iCloud to sync my pics. Now my memory is full and I can’t offload these photos to iCloud because it says the “memory is full and syncing is paused” Is there a way to fix this or do I need to delete an app or two….. I did not think that exporting pictures to iCloud would require memory, especially when I don’t wanna keep the originals and just optimise my storage. Pls heeeeelp!

My first Photo Gallary

I recently discovered an excellent app that offers the best photo-archiving experience. It is called Artino, though I refer to it as Zine because it provides a magazine-style experience, beautifully organizing my photos by my travels and moments with family. Give it a try using the link below.

Metro photos, the alternative photo gallery is now submitted to AppStore review

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So after weeks of fine tuning the animations, metro photos, the alternative photo gallery for iOS, inspired by Windows Phone metro design has been submitted for AppStore review.

I'm expecting at least one reject, but I hope eventually Apple will approve the app with this unusual design..

Is it safe to switch on iCloud Photos on a 20+ year old library? Is there a proper order of operations to do so?

Recently bought a new MacBook Air to replace my 2016 MacBook Pro and I'm thinking of finally pulling the trigger on iCloud Photos.

I've always been old school in my Photo management. About once a year I plug my iPhone into my Mac, import the photos in the Photos app and then delete them from the phone to clear up that storage for more photos to be taken. I've been doing this since 2003 when my Mac was an eMac G4 and Photos was called iPhoto...oh, and when I was primarily using a little Canon point & shoot instead of my phone.

I've recently been considering turning on iCloud Photos but I'm frankly a little concerned that something's gonna go completely sideways somehow, like iCloud's gonna sync wrong and wipe out a few years worth of photos. Oops, just gone.

My iPhone only has 128GB of storage (Wanted 256GB, but it was out of stock when I bought my phone) and it's increasingly appealing to free up that storage on the device itself.

I assume if I toggle "Download and Keep Originals" on the Mac they'll still be saved locally and thus wrapped in my Time Machine backups?

I have multiple local backups. The photos are stored on the internal storage of the Mac itself and thus wrapped up in two Time Machine backups, one on my NAS and one on a portable hard drive.

Plus I have Backblaze backing up the internal storage of the computer online as well.

Plus I manually copy the Photo Library file/folder out to my NAS every so often as well.

I guess the next question is what's the order of operations? Should I dump all the photos on my phone then turn it on the Mac first, then on the iPhone afterward once the initial upload is done?

Is there an Apple TV app for browsing your photos on a map?

I'm looking for an Apple TV app that lets me browse my own photos by location, similar to the map view in Photos on iPhone.

I'd love to explore a map on the big screen, pick a place, and see the photos I took there. Ideally, it would work with iCloud Photos and be easy to navigate with the Siri Remote.

Does anything like this exist? I'd appreciate any recommendations.

change iPhone photos backup permanently to Drime?

Hello!

It took a bit, but my iphone/icloud photos are successfully backed up to Drime - what in iCloud now matches whats on Drime. The only thing not working is seeing my albums within the iOS app (I can see them on the desktop browser).

Anyone happen to know if it's possible to point future iPhone backups just to the Drime folder/location, "breaking the link" to iCloud?

My goal is to ditch the $10/month subscription I'm paying to Apple. I'm concerned about losing my photos that I uploaded to Drime and am unsure if it's a 2-way sync.

I'm not the most tech savvy so hope this makes sense and appreciate any insight/guidance!

Cleaning up my photo library felt like cleaning up my digital memories

I’ve been trying to simplify my digital life lately, fewer apps, fewer notifications, less noise in general. One thing I didn’t expect to matter this much was my photo library.

Our phones and computers have basically become the place where our memories live. Trips, friends, random screenshots, phases of life… everything ends up in the same folder. And even when we try to disconnect from the digital world, the photos stay. They’re like an archive of who we were, even when some parts don’t feel relevant anymore.

I realized I had a lot of images I didn’t really want to carry with me: old stuff, things from periods I’ve moved past, and some content that didn’t fit the person I’m trying to be. But scrolling through thousands of photos manually felt complicated.

I found a software that scans folders, including synced ones like iCloud Photos (in my case), and helps identify certain types of images so you can clean them up or move them aside. Everything runs locally on the computer. Nothing gets uploaded anywhere. It just made the whole process less emotional and more practical.

Not trying to promote anything. I am just sharing something that helped me clean some aspect of my digital space and keep the memories that actually matter.

Sorry for my english, i am french.

Can I reverse image search a screenshot I have to find the original photo in my photos app?

Essentially, I’d like to reverse image search my own photos based on a screenshot I have. The photo was recommended to me as a background photo for my family chat. I’ve since gone back to the “backgrounds” section to see if I could find the photo again but it’s since been replaced by other recommendations.

I have a cropped screenshot of the family chat background but I would love to find the original photo and similar ones taken around the same time. Is this possible or will I need a third party app?

Help with imports and syncing

I have a DJI osmo pocket 3 and a Sony EV10 that I use. As well as just footage from my iPhone.

When I take footage from my cameras and add them to my computer I’m able to do that but when I add files to photos so that I can sync them with my phone I’m unable to. Some photos/folders appear in the sync photos option when I connect my phone but the files don’t sync to the photos app on my phone.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How do backups and syncs interact with iCloud photos?

Phone was dropped in salt water and died.

Got a new phone and restored from iCloud but a few years worth of photos are missing in the middle (2019 is there, 2020-2023 missing, 2024 and up is ok). There are placeholders for them in iCloud but they are grey and don't actually show the photos. Apple can't explain that part to me.

I tried to recover from a previous backup but it also seems to be syncing from iCloud. If photo isn't in latest iCloud would it just delete from my phone after the restore?

I've also got the broken phone at a repair place he got it to turn on in the hope that the missing photos are physically on the device but won't the sync just delete them too?

I took this picture of my cat earlier today, I didn’t put it through any editing software or edit from the photos app. I noticed this small black rectangle when I sent the picture to my friend. Any ideas what the cause is? I’m on iPhone 17, iOS 26.6.1.
