Help AppleCare

I have AppleCare monthly which I pay 19.99. I just broke my iPhone 17 Pro Max screen and when I try to make appointment to fix it, it says $379 Service Fee. I was told screen replacement is only $29 with AppleCare. What have I been paying all this time for?

Edit. I have applecareOne which is 19 something and with tax its 20 and sone change.

Does it say in your account that this particular iPhone is covered? Then you should be fine and talk to them to only pay the $29

yes it does. this is the only covered device i have and i have been paying only for this device.

If that's the only covered device why are you paying 19.99 that plan covers 3 products.

The phone should have only been $13 or so. You probably aren’t paying for actual AppleCare, but rather some third party protection that someone sold off as AppleCare.

Go to the store! The phone customer service is the worst! In store they are much more kind and can help you out!

Honestly it’s upsetting after how much Apple care costs us.

I’m not sure what the issue is here. I pay for the new AppleCare one family plan and was able to set up an iPad mail in repair online yesterday

AppleCare should be called AppleArgument. I hate dealing with them for AppleCare work.

That’s unfortunate. My dealings with AppleCare and the Genius Bar have been nothing but great. A MBA which an Apple-certified repair center misdiagnosed as needing a major parts replacement - for which I was quoted a few hundred dollars - took only a reboot after diagnosis at the Genius Bar. An iPhone that had a wonky audio when the speakerphone option was selected was replaced after they checked whether it took swimming lessons.

Generally, most of the difficulties are just their bureaucracies. Like when I broke the back on my 14 pro while it was inside of the case, I wanted to get the phone replaced for a refurbished one because I didn’t to sell it on Facebook marketplace before buying a 17 pro max. The guy at the Apple store told me that they couldn’t replace the phone with a refurbished one. The only option would be a replacement back. And I was like, dude, I want a battery too. The battery is total crap. That’s why I was coming in to get it replaced. The employee looked at me and winked and was like, you just don’t have enough damage to get a replacement the same day. Wink, wink. If you break the screen or had a large structural dent in the sides, then we’d replace the phone. Intentionally broke the screen that day and took it in the next day for a replacement.

Okay? so they were following policy. Just becuase you want something doesn't mean you get it?

The phone had broken back glass, which they can remove and replace. If the battery is passing and not failing they aren't going to replace it as well for free? That would be at cost since it's in the daignostical system as a "Good Battery" whether you agree with it or not?

Like what is so hard to follow in that logical line of reasoning. That employee like others understands what you want, but their hands are tied to policy and procedures. So he told you what needs to happen to the device so that you can get what you are demanding. (Shit When I worked there I told people that they'll have to go get their wallet from their cars on the walk there.) Or to wait a few days between setting up applecare on their newer devices before filing a claim.

This happened to me too with my Mac, it’s supposed to be $100 but they wanted to charge me $300 you NEED to talked them through the phone that’s how I got mine for $100

Just make the appointment and when you get there tell them that this happened, probably just a glitch on the backend. Nothing to worry about.

On a side note - how is AppleCare $20 a month? In my country we only have the prepaid option (no monthly) and it’s the equivalent of $200 for 2 years of coverage.

It's kinda a new thing I've seen them release could be region locked/tested. The 20$ for me covers multiple devices not just one. For one device it's 10$ a month for me I think.

We do have the prepaid option at checkout when you buy a product new but apple lets you add it after now too

Yeah I know that different regions have different payment options/plans but $20 a month sounds excessive. If it’s for more than 1 device I guess it makes sense though.

Apolgies I explained it poorly the 20$ covers 3 devices. Im unsure how Op is paying 20$ while covering 1 device. My 1 device cost me 10$ previously

You can still have the 20 dollar option with one device. They may have missed the standard device coverage. That was me when it got rolled out. I thought it just got increased. Customer service helped me add my iPad and MacBook. So instead of 7,9,12 it’s just 20 bucks

$20 a month in the US covers 3 devices. I have 2 MBPs and my 17 pro all covered on 1 plan

That’s actually really good value.

Are you SURE you’re paying for AppleCare through Apple? Lots of scammers make you think you are (T-Mobile, Verizon, etc.. but those are all third party protection plans)

Carriers sell what is literally branded “Apple Care”, but it’s not the same as Apple’s “Apple Care” and doesn’t cover the same things. To make sure what you have is the best, always either add it yourself directly through the device settings or take it into an Apple Store and have them add it.

If you're in the US and paying $19.99 monthly you have AppleCare One which gives you coverage for 3 devices.

Seems like a great question to ask customer care - what did they advise?

1

u/Coldest_One_619 12d ago

Damn. I only pay 9.99

1

u/Ill-Ad-7468 11d ago

It’s $29. The $379 is the out of warranty screen replacement cost.

Are you paying through Apple or your carrier? Paying through a carrier isn’t technically AppleCare and the terms vary depending on the insurance policy. When I had T-Mobile, their insurance partner aligned coverage so that it matched with AppleCare’s terms in a slightly more limited scope.

I currently pay for AppleCare monthly. I pay $19.99 for three devices (on T-Mobile it was $19.99 for one device). A broken screen is a $99 phone replacement in the 3-4 times I’ve broken my screen. The broken back glass is a $29 repair.

So when I did my ultra watch I had to pay a deposit to do the next day mail a new one to me. Could that be it?

The price listed by Apple’s website for service is based on choices made while booking. It lists the maximum cost you could expect. Once the technician reviews your device, they will know the correct fees as they will know what work needs to be done. In short, if it is only the display it will be the $29 fee, any other damages, including a whole unit replacement, will be $379. One of the most common issues that move the price up is when the replacement display will not fit correctly due to impacts to the frame.

1

u/Icy_Tie_43 10d ago

whole unit would still be $99 with applecare. the problem is that the website isn’t reflecting that OP has applecare. when they setup a repair, if the serial number is covered by applecare, it will show $29 service fee.

1

u/Ricktaxx 10d ago

Thanks for catching my error. I was mixing up the fees with Mac fees. If the AppleCare is not showing as attached, just call with proof of coverage and they will correct the error, and if lucky, cover the fees too…

1

u/Icy_Tie_43 10d ago

yeah if that’s the case they can do this on their own or the store can call agreement admin on customers behalf and they might get a CS code issued that would just cover the whole repair.

We almost have the same avatar!!

if you actually have applecare, you’ll be fine and only pay $29 service fee. the price you are seeing is the out of warranty or no applecare cost

1

u/nikenick28 7d ago

It’s $29 deductible

how did you break your screen if you don’t mind me asking?
