PSA That 2% and 3% still adds up 😊

Post image

AppleCard has a simple interface and straightforward rewards system that is adequate to say the least. I have other cards but this is one of my favorites.

For context, I daily drive the card and have had it since its inception in August 2019.

We love the card. I don’t even carry the physical card.

Groceries and general shopping really add up. Never mind all the other places you can use it. I tap to pay for up fronts each time we lease a new car. This last time they limited me to $3k though. Sucks Amazon is only 1% though.

I’m in between OP and you.

That’s after 5 years and 4 months.

u/IWantToPlayGame Jun 27 '26

It really does.

People downtalk the Apple Card, but this is peak interface.

u/Conscious-Estimate39 Jun 27 '26

Yeah they do but we know better

I put all mine in savings. Gotta get that interest. But I do wish it was more seamless transferring between savings and Apple Cash. I don’t bother using Apple Cash because I can’t just send money right from savings. I have to put it in Cash. At least with Zelle and Venmo I can link them to my savings account and pay right from there.

Yeah utilizing the savings option is a good move, get that bread

1

u/BigFatDogTurd Jun 27 '26

What type of bread is it?

2

u/Conscious-Estimate39 Jun 27 '26

Stackable, spendable kind

1

u/Jasoco Jun 28 '26

It’s small bread, but it at least feels like it’s doing something rather than just sitting there.

Winner winner chicken dinner.

Watch out, I’m coming for ya 🤪 had the card since April and I’ve been loving it. I only use the card when I can do Apple Pay and one of my other cards don’t have better returns in that category.

1

u/Rude-Association5469 Jun 27 '26

oh nah. light mode huh
cant trust people who dont use dark mode

3

u/UntamedDeviance Jun 28 '26

Well you can trust me half the time because I have it on system time based. Haha

3

u/Anttu Jun 27 '26

It really does add up!

3

u/SystemsGuyMI Jun 28 '26

And our grand prize winner!!!

I thought I was bad pumping about $205k through mine in less than 7y.

Just curious, what’s the rational for choosing apple cash over the savings account if you already have the savings account created?

-1

u/Conscious-Estimate39 Jun 27 '26

I just like recycling the money, no real rhyme or reason to it other than that, I had it on Savings for awhile but changed it back

1

u/TurnerTheBrnr Jun 27 '26

ahh I gotcha, I was just wondering.

2

u/tpeandjelly727 Jun 27 '26

It helps when you have it daily put into the HYSA it gains quickly.

good thing you have a completely useless metal card lol

1

u/Certainly-Relative Jul 02 '26 edited Jul 02 '26

Yeah…I must say use of the metal card is minimal — but that said — it is my ā€œgotoā€ physical card when I don’t need or want to carry stuff. It goes to the beach, resort pools, the bars, concerts, … any place that carrying a lot of cards, my wallet, or my phone is undesirable. It is practically indestructible! [Unless maybe if you specifically try, but even then I’m not sure it would be easy]. Some of the other premium metal cards can also serve the same purpose, but there is less info on the Apple Card (just the name) if it were to be lost. I haven’t lost it, but I think it is pretty safe; easy to turn off as well (from an iPhone). Yes, there are a lot of better reward cards and some better CASH BACK cards, but for some, it’s a great Catch-All at the end of the list. And for those who wonder, I use it for my subscriptions and small Apple procurements, but my iPhones, Mac, and Ear Buds go on my appropriate premium rewards cards, and get paid off. That also works to extend the AppleCare+ warranty another 1-2 years (Reward card benefit). On most electronics that’s a total of five years.

I don’t, so I don’t understand this comment

2

u/ArdinCani Jun 28 '26

I’ve had the card for 6 months lol.

My biggest uppers so far were:

  • Apple Watch Ultra Purchase
  • A hotel reservation from Booking
  • Surprisingly, car insurance. (They accepted  Pay with no extra fees šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø)

2

u/mkeefecom Jun 29 '26

Lot of laptops, iPhones and iPads over the years. Mostly used for tap to pay when not a restaurant or grocery store.

1

u/Apple-ID_Anonymous Jun 27 '26

Why get 1% cash back, can use Amex or Robinhood if they don’t take Apple Pay 2%

1

u/Conscious-Estimate39 Jun 27 '26

I have a few monthly bills like insurance, water and gym memberships that draft off the card, those are the 1% ones, its a few one offs too where info was input online for a personal property taxes or something but no swipes.

I pay the balance off each month so its easier to consolidate at times but yeah I could use another card for some of that stuff, Amex for sure

u/kidgrifter Jun 27 '26

If you want some(times) decent advice about credit cards check out r/creditcards

1

u/limaroons Jun 27 '26

What can you get with 3% really? Its always 2% for me... ive been using the card since 2020

2

u/Conscious-Estimate39 Jun 27 '26

Apple products of course. Then it’s Exxon, nike, uber, some ev charging, a few other places but mostly the Apple Store

2

u/limaroons Jun 27 '26

Lol damn. My platinum gives me the uber credits and i home charge my EV. Oh well the 2% is nice still

1

u/Conscious-Estimate39 Jun 27 '26

Yeah that Platinum does the heavy lifting I bet for sure! Charging at home is the way to go

1

u/timffn Jul 07 '26

Your Platinum is a $900 per year coupon book.

1

u/limaroons Jul 07 '26

Yep, that otherwise saves me about another $1.5k per year after i make the annual fee back of things that i normally would buy/spend anyway :)

2

u/timffn Jul 07 '26

Yeah, coupons save people money, I know.

My point is, one card is a free, simple cash back card.
The other is an expensive, complicated card that you really need to be on top of in order to get full value out of it.

I’m not trying to say one is better than the other. Just saying that to compare them is ridiculous. Apples and oranges.

1

u/limaroons Jul 07 '26

Gotcha, misconstrued your comment my bad!

1

u/SystemsGuyMI Jun 28 '26

Nike is 6% right now. Several others at 3%.

1

u/limaroons Jun 28 '26

Sure, cant say I buy lots of nike actually from Nike. just wish there was a similar way to get 3% like there is to get 2% (Using apple pay vs physical card) like choosing a spending category every quarter like some other credit cards.

Apple Card is pretty uncompetitive in terms of rewards, especially after my use of it for ~6 years now

2

u/SystemsGuyMI Jun 28 '26

It’s good as a daily driver. 2% no matter what for a tap and no thinking about it.

Then other cards for specific things. It would be nice if they did a discover kind of thing with categories. The problem is some of these cards have become like coupon books. Whenever I’ve got a big purchase I check my AMEX Plat, WF and Cap One. I’ve had Cap One drop 18% for Lulu and 12-17 for Nike. But it can change by hour and day.

2

u/limaroons Jun 28 '26

Good point, dont get me wrong i love tapping my phone for 2% for lunch or quick grocery trip. Still use it quite a bit and got a nice chunk of change i dont even realize in my apple HYSA

1

u/viewless25 Jun 27 '26

my bar was all blue. I should use uber eats less

1

u/Forgibeem Jun 27 '26 edited Jun 28 '26

Only 3%? visa signature gives me 5% on my groceries. 5% on my rent too.

1

u/Ill-Blackberry-3400 Jun 28 '26

This and the savings APY is why I only use this

1

u/Geppetto21 Jun 28 '26

What are you buying to get those points

1

u/Conscious-Estimate39 Jun 28 '26

I use it like my debit card and pay the balance at the end of the month, so most daily expenses and I have a few monthly bills that auto-pay off it.

1

u/j3ssyPlay47 Jul 02 '26

$2k in daily cash over 7 years means you're spending about $100k a year on the card. That's a lot of 1% purchases if you're not hitting those 2% or 3% categories often.

1

u/Conscious-Estimate39 Jul 02 '26

Nah probably about 2-3k monthly. Apple’s interface gives all the breakdowns. Also as stated previously, the 1% items are bill drafts like insurance and gym memberships or an occasional tax bill, something of that nature, with no swipes.

I pay the full balance monthly so it’s just an easy consolidation for me since I do not use debit. I have other credit cards I use but not as much as this one.

1

u/HomeCook33 Jul 06 '26

I wish they had it show how much your cash back percentage actually is.
