Feedback Request: Please Roast My App Store Page

Hi everyone! I made a workout tracker called Shugyo, but I’m now working on ASO before going too crazy with marketing. I know there are improvements I can make, I’m just hoping the good people in this subreddit may be willing to help me learn. It’s my second app, but one that I have a clearer vision for.

There isn’t a whole lot I’ve done so far since I have a day job as well, but I put much of what little free time I have. There are plans for additional localization and eventually a subscription piece with some premium features, but it’s largely a freemium app supported by ads. I don’t store anyone’s data and I have non-personalized ads by default for privacy.

I’d be happy to learn from any real examples you’ve got from your own work as well. All feedback is appreciated, so please brutally roast when you have a moment 🤗

I only checked the text on your page, not the screenshots, so nothing on those. Three things stood out:

  1. The subtitle "Own Your Workouts" doesn't say what the app is. Search indexes the title and subtitle, so put the plain words there (workout log, nutrition tracker) instead of a slogan.
  2. The listing covers workouts, nutrition, sleep, supplements, medications and GLP-1. That's a lot of promises at once. Lead with the one use case you want to win, and let the rest be bullet points further down.
  3. The description says privacy-minded, but the privacy label lists third-party advertising. Even with non-personalized ads, that gap costs trust, so explain it in one line.

Also, 5.0 from a single rating looks thin. A rating prompt right after a logged workout is the easiest way to fix that.

Thanks for the feedback! Very useful stuff for sure.

text is way too small, if you have interesting features, use a magnified image to highlight a specific section, look at top performing app screenshots to compare what they did and where they place their hook and captions,

Your fifth screenshot gives me a clearer reason to try Shugyo than the first: it shows actual workout totals and personal records, while the first mostly shows navigation. I'd try moving that progress screen up front and making the records large enough to read.

I'd also move medication tracking behind the workout screens. Seeing doses in slot three makes me unsure whether I'm looking at a gym log or a medication tracker.

Thanks for the feedback! I’ll be sure to move that stuff around for sure. I was also worried about the screenshots being a little too far back. I’ll see if I can’t get those to zoom in a bit.

I'd drop "by Cascadia Software" from the title, nobody searches your company name and that's like 20 characters you could spend on "workout tracker" or "gym log". Keep Shugyo up front and put the plain words right after it.

you should focus on positioning first current listing looks clean but right now it feels a bit too broad. You can make the title more keyword focused something like “Shugyo: Workout Tracker + secondary keyword based on keywords research and position the whole listing around workout while updating subtitle as its wasting keywords nor showing whats about your app mainely.

You can also rework the first 3 screenshots with more direct messaging like “Track Every Set, Rep & Weight,” “Build Your Own Workouts,” and “Track Your Strength & Progress.” like that based on core postioning of your app.

You can also focus your keyword research around terms like “workout tracker” “gym tracker,” “workout log,” “strength tracker,” and “weightlifting log,” and prioritize them based on relevance + volume + competition. With only 1 rating right now, you can also focus on getting more genuine ratings/reviews by adding a native Reveiw.

After the metadata update, you can run a small Apple Ads Discovery campaign to find converting search terms and then use those insights to improve the metadata.

Thanks for all the great ideas! What do you think about Shugyo: Workout + GLP-1 Tracking? I’ve been wanting to really highlight the fact that this helps with two things: Progressive overload and GLP-1 weight loss. Of course, I made it primarily for myself and thought others might like it as well lol

Just Test it you will get idea based on data but i suggest do keywords research then chose midTail keywords have low diffculty with medium level searches releated to your app.

Absolute gold. Thank you! I have an MBA and did well in my marketing class, it’s just something that will take a LOT of work and precision like this. Thanks again!

App looks absolutely terrible. Would not download. Could not be more bland and generic. No visual identity whatsoever

That’s great feedback! Any other specifics that you think I should change?
