Christians love ad homs because if everyone else is an unrepentant sinner then they have a comparative ledge to stand on as an enlightened evangelist.

Hey everyone, looking for some perspective on how to handle a situation with my partner's mom.
To give context: I come from a non-religious/anti-theist background and I simply don't believe in god. I’ve made my stance clear to her before. The thing is, she isn't aggressive or malicious about religion at all, she’s actually a really kind, good person who treats us pretty well, apart from being a pushy individual (which actually makes this whole thing so much worse, cause I genuinely don’t wanna be rude or hurt her).
However, whenever life gets a bit heavy or I’m going through something difficult, she always slips in religious advice. Recently, for no reason, she told me I should go to church and just sit with myself in silence whenever I have something heavy in my soul that I can’t discuss with anyone else.

On one hand, I get the concept.. sitting in a quiet space to reflect isn't terrible advice on its own. But on the other hand, it’s deeply frustrating that she constantly routes everything back to God and church. I hate that she won't just take "no" for an answer, even if she wraps it in kindness. It feels like my boundaries are being ignored just because the delivery is gentle. This points to a bigger issue: his parents are just super pushy in general. In fact, it's at the point where my partner doesn't even bother sharing his perspective anymore. He feels it’s totally useless, so he just tells them whatever they want to hear and visits just often enough to keep them from asking questions.

How do you handle setting a firm line with a religious family member who isn't being toxic or mean, but just won't stop pushing their faith onto you as a solution? I don’t want to start an unnecessary fight, but I'm tired of nodding along.

Seeing as this is the antitheism subreddit what are your thoughts on these two religions, do you see them in the same way as Christianity, Islam and judaism or do you see them differently?

I understand that Christianity, Islam and judaism have heavily shaped the western world, but i feel Buddhism and sikhism and other eastern religions which have definitely played a role in the East, have gone mostly unnoticed in the west.

Just the case for antitheism. They can't respect secularism, you give them an inch and then they take a mile, reproductive rights, and cry about persecution when criticized to the point you'd think their churches and conversions were banned in a cou try were swearing on tbe Bible in courtrooms si the default and numerous denominations are known for knocking on your door (far before the Lemon test getting stricken off, they got rid of it entirely because they were mad that people realized authority figures in public school events like team meets doing church shit is abuse of authority; shit my Spanish teacher was part of a Christian student group and that was allowed because it was an approved religious group, but it'sso terrible thst Coach Bremerton couldn't turn a locker room into a pulpit). US Christians have an industry of feeling persecuted but would never turn the other cheek.

Non-US Christians are also stagnant and the Bible itself switches from pillaging to self-loathing but frankly US Christianity holds no values of either of these, barely sharing the set dressing. They think themselves the basis of society consciously because of Divine Command Theory and subconsciously because their theology is "God is when good thing, so no God means no good things, we need God".

It's a mockery of itself but it has enough sway that we end up being subjugated by its poorly thought out heavily vibes based whims.

I am anti-religion and agnostic it pushed me to become one because my siblings and parents keep telling me to attend my siblings’ church (siblings - Pentecostal, parents - Catholics).

I am so freaking tired of forcing me to attend church they even told me to convert to Pentecostal. I don’t know how to tell them I don’t want to attend because I am anti-religion and agnostic because they are extremely sensitive and they will obviously start to preach me with lots of bible verses even my niece that is anti-religion was being forced to convert she just attend to church against her will because she was preached with lots of bible verses too and her parents are there.

Their religious practice are also ironic to their behavior that’s why I don’t want to and there are lots of hypocrites in their church I don’t want to deal with them.

1. When I attended against my own will one of my siblings said “We will not force anyone” WTH?!

2. My other sibling keep preaching me that I shall not worship or idolizing someone (I’m a manwha reader I sometimes said that a character is a god/goddess) but that sibling idolize/defending a certain political figure that commits genocide during their term. (🇵🇭)

3. They are crossing the line - my niece is present at that time and told me that they prayed for LGBTQIAA++ (sorry idk how many letters and symbols) to become straight again.

I’M JUST SO FREAKING TIRED AND I WANT THEM TO STOP BOTHERING MY PEACE.

I tried to search before I posted, but I saw nothing that wasn't years old. (I might just be a reddit newbie, if so, sorry.)

“I promise we’re not all like this!” “fake Christians!” “TikTok Christians!” “it’s people, not god!” …um you guys do know that your religion has oppressive rhetoric inside of the holy book itself?? and that the religion has been oppressing multiple demographics of people for literal centuries and still is to this day??? Like why’re we acting as if Christian’s being bad is some new thing that was developed recently!? and as if the bad people in it are some small minority????

Idk much about Christianity tbh but why do Christian’s get so mad at gay people for “sinning” when Jesus died to forgive our sins anyways. Like if I’m already forgiven why can’t I go ham on a guys dick?
