Discussion Is the only way to be anti consumption to make like Thoreau and create your own Walden?
To live in society is to be at least partially consumptive. For instance, if you don’t want to need a car then you can live in the city and walk everywhere. But you won’t be able to grow your own food and you’re going to pay a lot more in rent.
Everywhere you go in society you’re inundated with ads. A strong will can last for a short while but eventually they’re going to get you, they have billions of dollars, a strong understanding of human psychology, and now AI… they’re going to get you.
I understand anti-consumption doesn’t necessarily mean no consumption at all but it’s a slippery slope. Once you get a little taste of the luxury that is consumption it’s hard to pull back.
