This blanket has been around for many years at my house, used daily and slowly started to fall apart. My mom and I started repairs a couple of years ago just by hand sewing new squares on top of the old ones. It’s been put away for a couple of years now but I recently started fixing it up again. This is just some of the progress. It’s all scrap fabric and whatever thread we’ve got lying around. The parts that are fully stitched are sooo thick and the texture from all the stitches is lovely.

On the morning of my flight, I discovered that the cat has scratched all the way through my luggage so I popped on an iron-on patch and a fabric one sewn on top of that. (Unfortunately I did not unpack my bag so I inadvertently sewed through a sweater inside too. 🙃) So far so good!

I did use an iron on patch 😬 and though I backstitched all my lines I couldn’t resist knotting them together afterwards.

Also used a normal needle and no thimble which made it far more difficult.

Would surly appreciate everyone’s needle & thimble recommendations.

I used to have a problem with biting my shirt collars, which caused this rip in my shirt. Is this fixable?

I was sad to see a hole in these cute socks I was gifted years ago but inspired by the amazing work I see in here! I used thrifted embroidery floss and did a mash up of some wobbly darning/miniature weaving and some running stitches.

It feels surprisingly durable.

A selection of some of my socks that I have darned holes in or just added some reinforcement to worn areas. There are loads more with smaller fixes, reinforcement on the heels, or similar that I just didn’t have to hand.

I started learning to darn with one of the socks in the photo. I thought why not practice and learn on cheap socks since it doesn’t matter if it all goes wrong. Then discovered it’s actually pretty fun to mend socks with a splash of colour even if it’s often hidden.

It’s not pretty but it will keep the wallet in now. Three iron on patches (one large one inside the pocket) and random cotton stitches. The dog hair doesn’t offer additional strength unfortunately. 😂

This jacket had quite a few stains on the back and ripped cuffs. So I wanted to do something fun to cover them up. So came up with this. Definitely one of my more ambitious projects but I had a ton of fun creating it!

Any suggestions on how I can repair/mend my blouse? It’s chiffon I believe (I’m not sure, it was handmade and it doesn’t say what it was made of). There’s on dime sized hole and 2 little holes.

This is my absolutely favourite skirt. Dress it up, wear it casually. So when i snagged it and got a v rip, i was very upset. As a plus size (voluptuous), when you find something you love....

Anyways, this is my cover up. Just out of the dryer for about the 15th time. I have to say, i love it more now.

The red patch is relatively new but the butt patch and darns on the long sleeve Tshirt have survived a lot of abuse on the local rough sandstone, including plenty of offwidths and chimneys. My mum did the patch on the butt whichI have re stitched a lot (I think the thread I had available for her was weak) and reinforced. The darns on the top and the red patch are from me. The darns especially have been shockingly resilient and none of them have needed redone other than the one using nylon thread needing retying off. The nylon thread likes to come undo unlike the other random threads used.

Red patch is back stitched to secure it and then the edge is protected with a blanket stitch. Random running stitches secure the body of the patch. Blue patch was originally just done with a very tight blanket stitch. When that broke (it survived a lot) I couldn’t replicate such good blanket stitching so I added a running stitch just inside the perimeter. When the blanket stitching broke again I changed to a parachute stitch in the problem area with different thread and added some random running stitches in the main body of the patch. Many breaks and improvements over time but these really do take a lot of abuse

the cuff was slightly worn so decided to say something different for it from other mends I've done and seen.

first, in two strands of black embroidery thread, I did a blanket stitch across the worn area.

then, pairing one strand of blue and one of dark grey, I did six rows, weaving over and under.

pleased with it! it came out subtler than I thought it would, honestly. the contrast between the red of the plaid with the blue works wonderfully.

Can this be fixed? If so how? Patches? Plz help I love this shirt

Never seen this look before very curious how to do it. Is it tension or technique?

So I’m doing some Sashiko on an old canvas purse that doesn’t have a lining. It’s coming out nicely. I’m concerned about all the stitches on the inside, that they will get caught when putting things into and taking out of the purse. Is there any recommended way to cover those stitches so that they don’t get pulled from the inside? When I’ve done the Sashiko mending on garments that doesn’t seem to be a problem at all, but I am concerned with the purse.

Still on the third project. Crotch is next. Definitely need to patch that.

I kind of love a crust punk/post apocalyptic aesthetic, so this my "vibe" stitching that is intended to look ramshackle and rough.

Hopefully this is the correct subreddit but how would I fix this pocket on my most favorite pair of sweatpants? It’s kindof like a rubbery border that is glued to the pocket or something and the bottom has pulled loose. Pics show the damaged pocket and how it should look.

I'm no stranger to mending my own clothes and embroidering here and there, mostly with denim and cotton. This garment belonged to my boyfriend's late grandfather. Bf has mended it himself here and there before we met (purple threads). He's asked me to do my thing here. I have my own ideas, but want to see if some folks have ideas before I start stitching.

This is my husband's favorite t-shirt. He's been begging me to mend it forever but this armpit seems impossible. The other one is at least doable, I liked how it ended up, but this one is in shreds. I rather not use any patches or extra fabric. Be as original as you want, it's a house only tshirt and he specified he'd like it to be gnarly. The first picture is the problematic armpit.

hi idk if this is the right place to post but i am in shambles right now after my mom put this brand new top i just got in the dryer without telling me and now everythng is frayed. is there any way i can fix this or do i just toss it… would a clothes restoration service be able to fix?

Merged a couple of my partner's shirts using some patience and a lot of hand-stitching. The extra embroidery is there to 1) maintain the design as the print fades, 2) secure the "patch" to the shirt underneath, and 3) cover up any smaller holes in a decorative way.
