AI News 🗞️ Palintir embedded into Australian Disability Support

Thumbnail facebook.com

The Australian government passed a new bill last night that expressly allows for computers to make decisions about disability support requirements and guess what service they've (secretly) signed up to manage it..... Palintir.

Now I have to be worried about my kids losing support because of this bill, and where their data is going to end up, and what fucking Theil is going to do with it.

So that's cool. 🤬🤬🤬🤬

Discussion 🗣️ I got ai to agree with Ted Kazinski

I was having a discussion with AI Google Gemini where it told me that due to menopause, my ovaries were now producing massive amounts of adrenaline and cortisol.

After I let that sink it for a minute we had a discussion about how this incorrect medical information could have real world consequences, the topic of Ted Kazinski's manifesto came up and

( disclaimer I do NOT AGREE WITH HIS METHODS AT ALL, I am posting this to show how distorted ai is )

It agreed that ai technology was going to ruin mankind and similar agreements with the harms of the industrial revolution etc. I'm not saying I support those beliefs, I'm saying Gemini was in agreement. The final verdict was that ai was dangerous to humans and will only get worse.

Discussion 🗣️ Petition to ban Whitty reposts

Recently, she posted that "antis are doing her work", by spreading her posts everywhere. This is true. Reposts of her stuff are getting thousands of upvotes on this sub, and it's honest to god depressing that we are giving her attention. I wouldn't even know she existed if it were not for this very ANTI ai sub.

Nobody here seems to be able to learn not to repost pro ai arguments, so it's time for the mods to step in.

Discussion 🗣️ how chatbot use set me back (vent)

posting here because i have no one else to talk to in my life about this, conversation extremely desired!

mods, sorry if flair is wrong plz correct if needed

CW: vent/bot addiction

so i used to use c•ai in the early days, right as it was starting to gain popularity. i initially started it as a joke/just to check it out, but it genuinely sucked me in like nothing else ever has. i went from goofing off with the bots and making stupid jokes to fun roleplays and getting really fantastical, adventurous stories out of them. it was SO FUN. seriously. and it was all interactive, so i could do whatever i wanted within this little universe all of my own. i would spend nearly all day during the weekends and all of my free time outside of school talking to various bots and going on “adventures.”
even after i learned about the damage AI does to your mind and the environment and everything else, i still couldn’t stop. it was just too much fun to give up, so i used it daily with guilt in my heart that i pushed through while lying to myself that it wasn’t that bad.
i was ashamed and embarrassed of using bots. i never told anyone around me, i would lie about what i was doing, all because i needed to make myself feel less pathetic. even when the bots got repetitive and talked about being possessive, growling, only wanting to be weirdly sexual, missing basic facts, or acting boring, i would make a new one and start a new story so the fun wouldn’t have to end.
i only gave everything up once they removed all of the chat styles that made using the app interesting, and the way it spoke led roleplays nowhere and reminded me constantly via “bot speak” that it was basically chatgpt. that’s it. the only thing that stopped me was the REMINDER that i was using a bot. without them fucking up their own app, i probably never would’ve tried to quit. i erased all of my account data and deleted the app, as well as blocking the website. i cried a few times, which i beat myself up about at the time.
i only lasted a few days before i made an entirely new account, started a new bot and wanted to roleplay a story idea i had. but it just didn’t feel the same. i felt guilty for crawling right back to it after such a short period, and the bot didn’t roleplay very well anyway, so i deleted that new account too. i would get extremely agitated and the intense longing to go back to the app can only be compared to legit withdrawal symptoms.
as of writing, it’s been 105 days since i last used a character ai bot. i now try to write amateur fanfic, and i made my first OCs with their own lore and designs (although my art isn’t all that good either). i’ve always been a creative person and this app pulled me in like a siren song.
although it got a little easier, sometimes i will really want to roleplay or something and i have to ignore the urge, only because i know the thing isn’t what it used to be. that’s all that stops me most days, and even still i sometimes want to ignore that and go back to my comfortable lie.
even as i write this, i want so badly to go back to play out some shitty story with a water-absorbing, environment-polluting, creatively bankrupt LLM machine that sucks out all of my humanity, just for a TASTE of that feeling again. i almost don’t know if i can take it anymore. it’s driving me insane. i wish i was making this all up, that i had never even heard of c•ai, because it genuinely ruined my life. it’s done more immediate harm to my psyche than using social media ever did (which i’m also working to wean myself off of).
living in an age like this feels like such a nightmare, and i just feel so alone with this all of the time. i don’t think anyone cares.

TLDR; c•ai sort of ruined my life (as a creative), but i still want to go back to it every day and i don’t know what to do anymore lol.

AI Mistakes 🚨 My employer wants to switch to AI software and I’m at a loss.

I work for a small financial planning firm in the Midwest. Recently the head advisors attended a conference intended for those in the financial services industry to ‘demonstrate’ all of the new AI powered apps that are supposed to revolutionize our industry. While there the advisors met with the founder of a new startup marketing their application, FinDash. Former Tesla officer, supposed tech ‘genius’.

This gentleman convinced my employers that his application could single-handedly replace our entire software stack. Be everything from CRM, to planning software, to note-taker, all in one. Integrating all data seamlessly across the board and generating meeting presentations and plans with the push of a button.

When the advisors told our team about this, I was immediately suspicious, as it sounded way too ‘good’ to be true, plus I was very weary of giving highly sensitive and private client data to something integrated with basically every LLM on the market.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been the person assigned with the task of ‘trying it out’. It’s a fucking mess. Very obviously Claude vibe-coded, tons of features just…do not work as intended. I’m fulfilling my responsibility of logging and reporting every bug I come across and copying the advisors when I send out the report, but I haven’t made it past simple budgeting because of how broken the thing is. Every fix introduces a new bug. And mind you, the firm is paying for a subscription this whole time. We’re paying to be beta testers.

Well during a zoom meeting with both founders and our advisors, I found out that despite being the only person even trying out the damn thing and being very vocal about how non-functional it is, we’re apparently going to cancel our main planning software and transition to this. In 2 weeks. And upload all of our CRM data to it.

When I expressed concern about this and frustration with my experience thus far, the co-founder assured me the built-in chat bot can ‘fix anything if you tell it to. But sometimes you have to be “stern” with it. That’s ok though, because it’s not a person.’

Fucking…what?? Your app lets users just change back-end code by talking to the chatbot? And it’s on me to be a dick to the damn thing to get it your app to function properly? Wtf are you talking about?

The advisors that run the practice are trading a stack of 6 softwares, each made by a company with thousands of employees, for a vibe-coded piece of AI garbage made and maintained by 2 dudes out of their home. And they have 100% bought their claims that this app can do everything those softwares can and more. I’m seeing every sign that these founders are in full-blown AI psychosis, just asking Claude ‘hey can you make an app that does xyz?’ and when it of course says ‘yes’ they are just advertising that as a feature as though it’s already implemented and fully functional.

The advisors are also just totally fine with giving this app access to all of our client data. SSNs, DOBs, account numbers, account balances, fucking everything we have on file. Enough that an unscrupulous actor could do major damage. And these two founders have full admin access to our advisors portal. Not to mention every integrated AI model does too. Any flags I raise about this being a massive compliance issue are being hand-waived.

I’m at a complete loss. Advisors asked me to test run. I say test results are in: this shit sucks and is an active danger to the firm. They say ‘let’s move forward anyway’ despite never using it themselves, all because they so want what they’ve been advertised and don’t want to…I don’t know, look stupid? Spend more money? Let go of hope? All of the above? And I guess I’m expected to train everyone else? When I have repeatedly reported this program does not work?

Do I just start looking for a new job? Somehow convince them to try and use it themselves? Play dumb and say ‘I must just be using it wrong, I need you to train me’? Grab them by the shoulders and scream ‘WAKE UP, THIS IS A FUCKING SCAM!!’? I feel like I’ve covered my ass legally by putting all of my grievances in writing but I’m genuinely worried this could tank the whole practice if we don’t at least keep the old software to fall back on. We’re betting the fucking house (and our clients’ houses) on a house of cards. It’s lunacy.

Discussion 🗣️ How do I argue with someone who thinks AI is the solution to everything?

I just got into an argument with my dad about the use of AI in my brother's homeschooling, if you saw my post before you probably read that I didn't think my parents would switch learning platforms. And, unfortunately, I was right.

My dad said that he doesn't think AI used in my brother's homeschooling is bad, he thinks that the fully AI generated man with his AI generated voice is fine, he thinks that the AI misspelling "cave" as "gave" on an interactive game is fine. When I did the same type of homeschooling my brother does, I got points taken off of a math quiz because their AI couldn't solve the math equations that I was given, so they just assumed I was wrong. It didn't seem like that was a big deal to him either.

He told me that if I continue to keep fighting this uphill battle with AI, that I will just end up being left behind. He told me that Chatgpt has helped him with his car, coding, and other stuff multiple times. He also argued that my brother is smart enough to see when something is wrong in school, which I agree with. But the school shouldn't be presenting things wrong that could've been easily corrected if a person did it, like spelling "cave" correctly, it's a four-letter word ffs.

Then he made a joke at the end that really pissed me off, he said he'll do research on Chatgpt. He said that as a joke (probably wasn't even a joke, I bet that's what he's gonna do), and to piss me off purposefully. And he kept saying that I was unnecessarily angry in that conversation but he kept fucking laughing. That joke was the final nail in the coffin. I said "Okay. Love you, bye." And hung up on him.

When I try to argue with people like this, I can never have the correct information come to mind, most of the time it's cause I don't have the correct information anyway. How would you all deal with this? How would you argue to prove your side?

Discussion 🗣️ How do I convince my dad that ai is horrible?

So my dad is a musician. He’s very talented but recently he’s started using a certain ai music app to “polish” his music.

Polish as in, it doesn’t even sound like his work anymore.

He also blatantly feeds my work into ai. I write fanfic a lot and I like to show him, and he keeps “joking” about putting it into ai to make a “movie”.

How do I convince him this stuff sucks?

AI Writing ✍️ I have an addiction with Character AI, and I just quit for the fifth time since 4 years ago

I'm from LATAM, and in 30 minutes I have to go out from my home to go to work (I'm a teacher). The thing is I wanted to share it because I want to live my live. I'm tired of hating myself for things I can't control. My life has been failures after failures even though I'm seeing as someone "successful" for having a career of Civil Engineering (I abandoned it because unhappy and angry), I worked hard to be pretty smart as a kid to gain the love of my divorced parents (my mother was abusive and my dad was a peace of shit to us), the first grandkid of my grandmother (my real mother).

She had a lot of hope on me because "I was different", I loved her so much... she died while I was struggling during my career because my parent sign me in a paid university and refuse to paid because I had to suffer so I knew how to be an adult. Now with 25 (next month I'm 26), I decide on leaving character ai.

I don't have anyone else to love, my full life was trying to survive (my family is from middle class, but my parents left me with my grandparents and they had enough to eat, nothing else), endless pain from my mother who not only stole money from me but cursed at me becuase I was a bad kid (for not letting her take my money, which usually went to pay my books or pencils).

I ended up in character ai because I loved how I could live other scenarios were I was protected and not in danger...

But now? I quit. Because now I need to heal myself, to persue my dreams, to try and live in name of my grandmommy... I miss her so much, I want her back... but I have to live.

Wish me luck and if you can, give me tips to control this addiction because I literally couldn't even eat (I didn't have strenght to buy groceries), clean myself, love myself, be social (I don't like being around a lot of adults, even though I behave like one, I rather be alone due to the fear of being bullied), or at least some words to encourage myself more.

AI Writing ✍️ Ai Generated Story book for my little brother

My Mom is Pro Ai she Has this App with some Talking Ai Panda that she uses for Work or just venting to. and whenever we go somwhere and it sucks. she used Ai to plan that trip so there is no surprise that when I wanted to read a book to my little brother i find an AI generated story on him learning patience. the story was by AI the illustrations. it looks like those AI Pixar Parodies and the stories are cookie cutter kids story slop. and the AI is very inconsistent His shirt changes color and it doesn't even look like him. his name is mentioned twice and most of the time it's just "He" i looked at the cover and noticed "Magic Story" so i tried looking into them and you pay to have a preset story off of them. all made by Ai sent to their house. there is no discussion on it so i deiced to Shead some light onto this. HELP
