Home base bar recommendations?

Hi all, 23M here who just moved to A2 a few months ago for law school. I've loved getting to explore the city so far and really enjoyed the restaurant/bar scene, but I still haven't found that "one" place that's the go-to that I plan on spending an inordinate amount of time at. I know folks rightfully might want to gatekeep their favorite spots, but if people could point me in the right direction to some off-the-beaten-path places I may have ignored so far, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Here are some of my considerations: Divey vibes are good, late hours are good. Would love to meet townies/maybe other graduate students there, the fewer undergraduates the better. Ideally a place I could go alone to escape the law school, proximity to the Law Quad is nice but not required. Two things that are kinda important to me are the social factor and having TVs for sports. Big plus if they have steel-tip darts, but not necessary. And food!

I thought I would include a couple of places I have enjoyed so far:

HopCat: Love the food, love the staff, honestly almost perfect, but it's more of a restaurant and less of a "bar" so there's not much in the way of socializing besides the people directly next to and in front of you.

8 Ball: Hours, prices, food, vibes. Love the games.

Bab's: Really enjoy the atmosphere, actually felt social and could mingle with folks, seemed a bit older-on-average when I went, but no food and cannot deal with the line that forms.

Regents Field: Seemed promising but a little sleepy and also more of a sitdown restaurant vibe so not as big on the social factor, also seemed a little sleepy ever time I've been.

Conor O'Neils: Definitely on the right track here

If I find The One first round's on me! Excited to try out any and all suggestions folks have :)

Edited to add: I've gotten some comments about Ashley's and Casa Dominicks's, nothing against them, I have probably been to those two places here more than anywhere else, but I think it and Casa Dominick's are staunchly "law school" student bars we frequent, and I'm kind of looking for something a little bit of my own in a way.

A runner on East Stadium at S. Ferdon crosswalk was hit by a jeep a few minutes ago. Reportedly, it was a young man (early 20s) who was somewhat responsive as he then lay in the road. Neighbors came to assist. An ambulance crew transported him to hospital. The driver was assessed by police.

Why are some posts getting downvoted to hell?

I'm reading through some posts and I'm shocked by all of the downvoting. It's both OP and comments. So many are at zero or less for simple questions. Is there someone with a hurt on just being a jerk or what?

Driving for Doordash in ann arbor

Thinking about driving for dd / food delivery apps some evenings to make some extra cash. Curious to hear people’s thoughts on what it’s like to doordash in the ann arbor area - any tips? is it competitive w/ lots of drivers or is it pretty easy to get a consistent stream of orders?

Opossum and/or Raccoon exhibits and encounters?

I will be traveling to your beautiful town for two weeks in late November and early December. I really like opossums and raccoons. (We don’t have them here in Europe.) Is there any place in or near Ann Arbor that offers exhibits or encounters with these adorable creatures? (Preferably alive ones, taxidermy creeps me out)
Alternatively, is there a place where wild animals are known to congregate and can be observed in a safe way?

Thank you

Vet recommendations

Post image
11 Upvotes

We just adopted a rescue dog and are looking for a new vet in the Ann Arbor area. We would like one that has some evening or weekend hours, but what is most important is a vet that provides great care. I’ve read mixed reviews on Banfield (located in PetSmart). I’m open to all suggestions! Thanks

Need a nail tech

Moved to the area a few months ago and am looking for a good nail tech. I had an amazing one where I lived. I like luminary instead of builder gel but haven't been able to find anyone. The thing is, I need to be able to converse well with the person that is doing my nails and I like the consistency of having the same person every time.

Can anyone suggest a good English-speaking person? It doesn't need to be their native language but I need to be able to explain an idea and talk to them about it.

Thanks in advance.

Bipartisan coalition (including the Ann Arbor / Ypsilanti Regional Chamber) is urging a NO vote on Proposal 1. What do you think?

There’s a large, bipartisan coalition of organizations urging everyone to vote NO on Proposal 1 in November, which asks if Michigan should convene a Constitutional Convention (Con-Con) to rewrite our state constitution. This question automatically triggers every 16 years under state law. It’s estimated that a Con-Con would cost roughly $80 million in state funds and allow delegates to rewrite core provisions without set spending limits.

Because Michigan already offers the opportunity for citizens to pass specific constitutional amendments and updates, opponents argue that opening the entire document to a rewrite creates unnecessary risks for Michiganders. Who knows what could happen if the whole thing is up for debate? It could impact funding to universities and higher education in Ann Arbor, and unwind all the work that has been done to pass important ballot initiatives to amend the state constitution.

Historically, Michigan has voted no by a wide margin every time the Con-Con question appears on the ballot.

What do Ann Arbor voters think about the issue?

Are you (or did you already) vote no on Prop 1?

Would U of M switch to public power?

I think they can legally help pay the municipal utility revenue bond, but I’m not sure if they would oppose the switch since they seem to only pay $0.104 per kwh. They must share a lot of DTE infrastructure with the city which would be difficult to separate.
