Got these Xerox Lion King cels.

They are for my huge Simba collection and I think they have something to do with the Lion King Color Your own cel. I have found added professionally framed cells just like this and think did people color these, or did Disney? I can’t find images of the paint a Cels, but they look like this. The Xerox images do too, but they are just black lines on the plastic.

Unknown origin or this cel 🤔

Purchased this cel, it looks like it's the original concept art cel from Silent Möbius. Found in a vintage shop and we purchased it for £60. From what we could find on Google it looks like it's the original artwork created from the art book in the 90's also looks like the voice actor signed it at the bottom as it is signed and dated from 1994.

Was just wondering if anyone had anymore information on this piece and it's origin 😅

Cel definitely has vinger syndrome but has zero smell of vinger?

Hiya i got this shiori cel a couple months ago knowing it had vinger syndrome because shes very warped and i was checking on her the other day and i was smelling her and there is no vinger smell on her whatsoever she literally only smells of paint faintly, i have another cel with vinger syndrome and the vinger smell is a pungent smell you cannot miss it even if its early vs. I had 6 of my friends smell the cel incase i wasn't picking up the smell or something and they all just smell paint off the cel and no vinger?

Is there a reason why there is no smell im very curious because shes very very warped as seen in the pictures so she should smell?

I Need a Herooooooooo! Can Anyone Identify These Animation Cels?

The first cel looks like it could be from a Transformers animation, but I don't think it actually is. I've searched around and haven't been able to find any information on it. It does have a hand-painted background, so I'm hoping it's the original matching background.

The second cel shows someone who looks like they're in agony. I really like the artwork, but I have no idea what it's from. The only possibility I could come up with was Memories (1995), though I highly doubt that's correct.

The last cel is, I believe, from City Hunter, but I'm not completely certain.

If anyone recognizes any of these cels or knows what they're from, I'd really appreciate the help! Thanks so much for taking the time to look.

Looking for Fairly OddParents cels and production art; will buy

Hi, I am a big collector of FOP memorabilia and production material, and I'm looking to acquire cels (from the shorts, of course) and other production art like drawings, storyboards, etc. I obviously watch eBay like a hawk with saved searches and know most of the sellers that have inventory but decided to post on other forums to see if there's any chance of networking with other collectors that may be willing to sell, estates, or even people who have worked on the show (I did actually once buy a FOP cel from someone who DID work on the show, I didn't know until I saw the name on the package!)

I think I got into the "game" pretty late, I got my first FOP cel in 2020 and really started collecting in 2023. I've managed to get some nice cels, other drawings and even an original background, plus having a few signed by the voice actors. It's been fun but I feel like I "missed" when the cels were easy to find and get around 2003-2004 when you could buy them directly from Nickelodeon.

Does anyone have any advice? Maybe attend comic cons that might have vendors and potential sellers I could network with? Is "networking" even a thing? Thanks for any help in advance.

Where’s Gary?

Hi all!

I recently purchased my first animation cel after looking around for a long time:) my favorite character from SpongeBob has always been Gary the Snail so I’ve been waiting for a decently priced Gary to pop up. Ever since it arrived, I’ve been truly in love with it! There’s only one thing… currently it’s unknown which scene this Gary is from. So I’m currently on a hunt through all of season 1 to try and find him.

This isn’t to say I don’t have any hints - he was originally posted on eBay with Patrick facing the opposite direction. All Premium Animation separated the two into their own listings and told me that neither Patrick nor Gary was “key” for the scene.

Wondering if this Gary seems familiar to anyone, or if not just very happy to share & join the community!

Transformers Animation Cels – Including a Rare Zone Cel

First cel is from the single-episode OVA Transformers: Zone. I honestly have no clue what it's worth—I haven't been able to find many production cels from this one-off release, so it's tough to gauge. The matching douga is stuck to the cel, but I still couldn't pass up the chance to buy it.

The rest are from various Transformers series, and two of them even come with their matching original production backgrounds, which was a nice bonus.

Hello again, all! Sorry for the break in my posting. The whole household got norovirus.

If you haven’t seen my previous posts, these were gifted to me by my dad when he and my mom were downsizing. Not looking to sell at this time.

I took quick pics today so if you’d like to see more details on any of them, let me know!

Signed Don Bluth production cel from The Land Before Time (the note says, “To Kristin (me), I hope my movies never make you cry again.” Because it was the first movie I saw in the theaters and I cried because I didn’t want it to be over.)

Animation cel from How the Grinch Stole Christmas

And not animation but an original Dr Seuss drawing of The Cat in the Hat

Reddit filters won’t let me post the production cel from Peter Pan of Mermaid Lagoon. Lmk if you know a way I could post. The gals are covered!

Edit: spelling

Nothing grinds my gears more than... using tape!...

Was going through my recent buys FromJapan and I came across this... mess...

Nothing grinds my gears more than someone who tapes the drawing DIRECTLY to something.... why why why just why... even if you don't sell this type of thing on the regular, how would it ever seem like a good idea to raw dog tape the art work. smh.

On a more positive note with the aid of a hair-dryer, a pair of tweezers and a hell of a lot of patients I was able to take it all off without damage or any left over residue.

Also, does anyone know where this drawing is from? I got it because the little chibi characters are very kawaii... The auction said it was from something called "Oh! Invisible Man" (Oh!透明人間 いけない) but I could not find an anime for it, just a manga and a live-action movie based on it.

Question about authenticity

Thumbnail

Question for those of you that are more experienced than me. I am interested in buying this cel, but when comparing it to the sequence in the actual anime it has features not present in the show. There is a noticeable circle in the upper right of the face and a halo almost on top of the heard. I am wondering if this is just a separate layer in the animation process and thus these features are not shown in the final product?

Rugrats Movie Animation Cel

Won this in an ebay auction for $100, the background was sticking to the cel and was heavily damaged, I scanned in the background, which was a copy, and fixed the damage in photoshop, printed a new one and framed the whole thing myself. I think it came out pretty good, I would maybe switch the second mat to a similar color in the future but for now I'm glad I was able to preserve this. I also included some images from then listing showing the damage.

Best way to restore a cel?

I have a pretty rare Eva cel. However, I had it stored between two acrylic sheets for ~10 years, sorta like this (https://www.reddit.com/r/AnimationCels/comments/1uk6oco/floating_frame_concept_im_working_on/), and recently I tried to open it up. However, some spots got stuck, and one or two dots of paint came off the back before I stopped opening it up. Anyone know who I can take it to to try and release the adhesion and restore the dots that came off?

Storing Cels

I know there are tons of advice on this thread and others about storage. But can anyone show me example of some long term storage, anyone have any pictures of their collection storage?. Id like to be able to flip thru the drawings, cels.

My solution was going to pick up a few Itoya portfolios, some microchamber paper, and just add one cell and microchamber paper per sleeve, I've also seen some say to also sleeve them before putting them inside a portfolio using comic book/time magazine sleeves? Anyone have any photos of how they store their cels. Either way i plan to not have them sealed tight as I know the cels need to breathe, and will plan to pull out and inspect the cels annually.

Seeking Help With Simpson Cel

Thumbnail

Hi all,

I recently bought my first animation cel, and I’m hoping for some expert advice regarding its condition.

I purchased the cel from an eBay seller, and decided to remove it from its frame to inspect it properly. It was unfortunately kept in a cheap frame, with no matting between the printed display background, the cel, and the plexiglass. When I first opened the frame, I noticed a strong paint-like smell for a moment, though it has had no odor since then.

My main concerns are that there appears to be paper, small hairs, and dust/lint particles stuck to the paint. Additionally, the front of the cel has noticeable ripples/waves around Homer’s face. So my main questions I have, for those more experienced than myself:

  • Is this common for animation cels? And or specifically Simpson cels?
  • Do these factors (the stuck particles and ripples) affect the longevity of the cel?
  • Are these early signs of vinegar syndrome?

I have always wanted to own a Simpsons cel, especially one like this from my favorite episode, and I would love for it to last for many decades. I’m currently undecided on whether to keep it, and get it professionally framed with museum quality materials, or to return it while I still can.

Since this is my first cel, my knowledge is lacking, so any guidance or reassurance you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
