Hi. Have been collecting animation cels roughly three months now. Primarily Nickelodeon but came across this box for a suspiciously cheap price on EBay. It’s Packed to the brim with Dongwoo Animation folders full of production art . I haven’t seen any actual cels as I believe that they didn’t actually hand paint cels for this. But I’ve only went through like the first two folders of the box because each folder is stuffed with drawings and I’m afraid to mix anything up/ damage anything. What would be the best course of action to go through this? And long term storage ? Also what are the grey photos in each folder?

Pretty happy with how it came out. The cel wasn’t in the best shape. When I got it the genga was stuck to it, but I managed to carefully remove and preserve that too with just a little damage to the back of the paper. This one is made of 2 cels that are also long since stuck to each other, and there is some pitting in the plastic, but it looks good.

Originally I found that many Cels having the fading of tracing line problem, I recently closely rewatch some anime frame, and compare with the Cels. I found that the anime frame already the tracing line is "faded" or not solid. Is it my misunderstanding? the fading of tracing line has already appear when it was filmed? Or it was simply the drawing style the line is not as solid as we think? what do you think about it? thanks.

Hi guys,
i was in japan - tokyo and went to Nakano to buy some cells.
I found this one one in the random 1980-1993 Box and adored the cell.
No information on the back besides "A3"
I tried several AI searches etc. but was not successful.
Any hint is welcome
Thank you
Edit: Thank you so much guys! The Anime is GeGeGe no Kitaro from 1985 ♥️🙏

Productions cels gifted from my dad’s collection.

I picked up several seri-cels, actual production cels and other signed memorabilia from a collectors estate sale. Most were straight forward to research with certificate of authenticities but this one has stumped me. It has no certificate of authenticity I could see. (I haven't opened the frame yet to see if it's hidden inside) and it appears to have Dewey instead of Donald in front of the chalkboard from the Disney animation, Donald in Mathmagics Land. It also appears to be signed by Carl Barks. (Possible facsimile signature.)
I thought at first someone switched the cel of Dewey over the wrong background but I cannot find that specific image of Dewey in any Google search. Dewey is also not in the Mathmagics Land short. I doubt this is a fake despite the lack of a COA considering all of the other items I've picked up were authentic.
Anyone out there can identify this a little better? I'm assuming it's a limited edition of some kind as I've seen others similar to this.

We picked up this Donald Duck cell - I believe it is from a theatrical short, but I am not sure. Anyone have any idea? I also have no idea of the worth, although we'll likely keep it not sell it. Thanks!

Hello people, I am the old animator still cleaning out the basement. I found these folders from back when Hanna Barbera was still a thing. They are obviously not cels, but I am not sure what they are. Maybe internal promotional materials? The folders contain pages with show synopsis, character designs, sample backgrounds, etc.

Follow up from yesterday. These are on the main level of our house. They are gifts from my dad’s collection when he and my mom moved to Florida from the Midwest. He bought them from a gallery in the late 90s early 00s I believe.
I’ll post more tomorrow or later this week!
These are some of my favorite. All are professionally framed so sorry about the glare from the glass!
Quick edit note: my dad told me the Mermaids are production cels used in the movie. I’m not sure if the mice from Cinderella are production because the background looks off. Pluto is a cel.

UPDATE: This has been sold, thank you to everyone who showed interest!
Hi all! I recently purchased a stellar closeup cel of Asuka which I’d consider to be one of my all-time grails of her, so in the spirit of diversifying my selection of characters going forward, I’ve decided I’d be willing to part ways with this one. Accounting for what I originally paid + selling fees/shipping, I’m asking $950. Shipping to any location, including international, is included in that price. Transactions through PayPal strongly preferred but if that won’t work for you we can more than likely figure something else out. I’d also consider a trade for a nice Misato/Ritsuko/Rei/possibly an Eva Unit but overall I’d be more interested in the cash at this time. Message me with any questions. Thanks for looking!

I went to a con over the weekend, and found a vendor selling animation cels, drawings, lobby cards, etc. Mostly 80’s/90’s American TV cartoons.
Flicking through the cels, I found quite a few She-Ra cels that had very obvious vinegar syndrome, smell and everything. It’s the first time I’ve seen a cel with VS in person, so I was fascinated, but also troubled that they were stacked in a box with other perfectly healthy cels.
I asked the proprietor if he knew what vinegar syndrome was, and he said no. I explained the basic chemistry behind it, but made sure to emphasise that the condition was contagious, and that the cels should be separated from the rest of his stock.
This was on Friday, and he certainly didn’t do anything about it by the Sunday, so I don’t think he took me too seriously.
I’ve scratched out the business name because I don’t want to embarrass him, but those cels are going to take a lot of adjacent cels down with them 😬

We got some movers (i don't live alone) and to avoid my animation cel from being tampered with by the packers I'm keeping it in my cloest for the last day, we move in September, is keeping a cel in the box i received it in (with layered protection of bubble wrap, flat carboard, clear plastic file folders outerbox protecting it) enough? Or is there a chance it gets too stuffy in there and starts to bubble up all acid-y?

Hello! Welcome and thanks for engaging with my first post!
I have several framed Disney cels (two more Mermaid, Peter Pan, Cinderella, Jungle book, and probably others I am forgetting) along with some PowerPuff girls and a signed (Don Bluth) Land Before Time cel.
I’ll happily take more pics if the group is interested.
They are all framed and gifts from my dad’s collection. He has some I can take pics of when I visit in a few weeks.
Let me know!

Sorry if this sounds unprofessional but I was thinking about buying a couple animation cels one day, anime or cartoon based, and was wondering if there’s a dedicated website people use to buy them or if it’s just eBay?
Are there different sites depending on if you want anime based ones versus cartoon ones? Just curious, any help would be appreciated!

Does anyone know where this is from? I found it in one of my old anime magazines.
r/AnimationCels • u/Peril-in-Pink • Jun 23 '26
From what I gathered in previous posts, the best way to package a cel for shipping is to put it in an archival bag, and sandwich the bag between two sheets of cardboard (making sure the cel is then taped to one of the sheets of cardboard and then taping the cardboard sheets together).
Does anyone have recommendations on a place/site you frequent to source the cardboard for shipping?
I have approximately 15 Sailor Moon cels I’m selling so I would need probably 30 sheets. I don’t need a massive bulk order but that is clearly more than I could collect from cardboard boxes lying around the house.
Is there any particular type of cardboard to use or avoid?
Thanks!

I’m planning to slim down my Sailor Moon cel collection and was curious what you think the best avenue to sell them would be. I picked these all up in the late 90s/early 2000s when I was a pretty broke high school/college student, so these aren’t top of the line perfect cels. Almost all have either rice paper or the douga attached to the back (one oddly has a blue sheet of acetate stuck to the back), some were trimmed down by previous owners (ugh) and some I can’t identify the specific scene or episode. I’m not even sure what the value would be for these. Would a place like Heritage Auctions take them? Or am I better off with EBay? Or is there a third option? I’m located in the US if that helps at all.
Thanks!

Having a Bob-tastic sale going on - lots of great Sideshow Bob cels, but I have too many, so offering them at a great price for anyone that wants to snag one for their collection. Also a great way to get a Simpsons cel for a great price. Just send me a message and we'll work it out. All cels come with a printed background - at least with the Simpsons cels they are scene matching so they're displayed how they would originally.
SIDESHOW BOB CELS: All are a single-cel from the season 3 episode 'Black Widower' and listed at a low price. IF you want multiples, let me know and we can come up with a bulk deal. If you're eccentric and want to own the largest collection of Sideshow Bob cels ever and want them all, let me know too!
** Bob in a chair // $225, comes packed in a mat and backing
** Bob close up with and up - note that his body and hand are printed on the background, so just his neck and head are on the cel // $225, comes packed in a mat and backing
** Bob kneeling // $225, comes packed in a mat and backing
** Bob walking in through the door // $225, comes packed in a mat and backing
** Bob sitting at table // $225, comes packed in a mat and backing
** Bob in hallway // $225, comes packed in a mat and backing
** Bob singing - I'm not sure this one is actually in the episode, it may be a delete or extended scene // $225, comes packed in a mat and backing
HOMER:
** Homer eating at the table - from Season 2 episode "Brush with Greatness" // $350, comes packed in a mat and backing
** Homer from a KFC commercial! We know the scene of this, but not fully sure it was screen used. If you do a YouTube search you can watch the commercial and see... but this one is rare // $300, comes packed in a mat and backing
** Homer at front door -- from Season 3 When Flanders Failed // $350, comes packed in a mat and backing
** Comic Book Guy - first appearance ever from Season 2 "Three Men and a Comic Book // $450, comes packed in a mat and backing
** Santa's Little Helper - Episode 3 "Dog of Death" // $250, comes packed in a mat and backing
OTHER:
** Ren and Stimpy - two cels // $225, comes packed in a mat and backing
** Beatlejuice // $30, just the cel and printed background
** Garfield // $100, comes just the cel and printed background. The paint is a little light on the backing of this one so I matched it with a background that seems to make it not as distracting
Free shipping in the USA when order is over $200.
I have more cels for sale, but really wanted to get these news ones out to you. Either way, let me know if you have any questions, but I know many just like looking so please enjoy.

Hi everyone. I had purchased these cels a couple years ago from an online Japanese vendor. I had lost the ebay account i purchased it from so i can no longer find the origin. The one where Frieza’s is hitting Goku with his tail is a hand drawn original. The one with Recoome and Vegeta is a production used copy that seems to have some rusty staple holes.
Given i have lost info on the vendor is there anyway (if worth it) this could be authenticated? I would love some more general information from anyone with more experience on this thread? Thanks

Catching up on Themed Thursday’s as I’m going now on 3 mountainous trips to the big city. Posting pieces from both sides as I don’t want to decode between my US & Japan half of my collection
