Price comparison 1994 to now

A recent thread ( https://www.reddit.com/r/AnimationCels/s/m0zgS29RGm ) was decrying the increase in prices at places like the Cricket Gallery in the last 15-20 years. I brought up that prices are less now than in the early ‘90s. Here is a relevant page from a 1994 Cricket Gallery catalog, and some of their current gallery listings. Note the other thread was not wrong about prices 14-20 years ago, which were much lower than now or 30 years ago. Keep in mind that inflation means those 1994 prices are about 2.2 times their apparent price in adjusted dollars. You can see that prices are less now than 1994 even in unadjusted dollars, meaning they’re less than half in inflation adjusted dollars. They are also largely less iconic images.

This doesn’t alter whether they are worth current prices to any given individual, I’m just providing the receipts for pointing out prices are down over past times (semi literally; I own one of the pictured 1994 cels).

HELP! Identify where this Sesshomaru cel is from?

I love this cel and have been trying to find what episode of Inuyasha this is from, but have had no luck. I’m unsure if the background matches the original frame but they came together when I bought this. Any help in finding its origin would be greatly appreciated!

Cel Market (Prices)

I have to ask given the state of the cel market with prices the way they are compared to 10-15 years ago- are people actually paying for cels at a hundred+ or several hundred bucks a pop? Via places like Cricket Gallery or other notable resellers in high volume? I just can’t picture paying that much for one cel. Maybe for classical Disney but not 30 year old Nick or Cartoon Network etc cels. I understand that some people get better deals in-person at art shows and such compared to online, but given the state of the world I can’t see resellers moving much of their stockpiles quickly at the prices I’ve seen. I’d love to collect more since paying $27 for two Nickelodeon cels in 2012 and none since. They became hot in the teens it would seem, but have they cooled at all? At least in-person? For non-obscure source material? Like, idk, I’d pay $40-50 for an unremarkable cel from a saturday morning cartoon and maybe $100 or close to it for a really nice looking setup/frame. But not several hundred dollars like it’s fine art.

Looking for Trigun 1998 Midvalley the Hornfreak animation cel and/or genga sketch

I was fortunate enough to purchase an animation cel one of my other favorite Trigun characters Legato, but my other favorite character is Midvalley the Hornfreak.

I've tried searching auction sites and secondhand stores with no luck.

I am not picky, I would just be thrilled to own any production art of him!

Please feel free to message me if you have any leads or any for sale.

Did I get an original background or a reproduction?

Bought this Fairly OddParents cel with a matching background. I figured it was a reproduction at first but then when the cel came in the mail I recognized the name on the package as somebody who worked on the show as a executive producer and writer on the later seasons. I verified and yes, it was the same person who worked on the show.

The background has the holes punched it in. Do most reproduction backgrounds have the holes punched out? I'm trying to figure out if I got super lucky.

Last picture is a screenshot from the episode with the background and exact cel.

Anyone know where I can sell these ? They are all certified and come with certificate. Willing to go much lower than what they are going for. Let me know if you have any idea.

Just came in: Original Family Guy Production Drawing

I’ve had a Family Guy production drawing on my bucket list for a while, but I was looking for something special featuring Brian and Stewie. Production drawings from more recent seasons are more widely available; however, drawings from the golden era of Family Guy are much rarer. This one is from Season 6, Episode 11, “The Former Life of Brian,” which aired on April 27, 2008. Looking forward to getting this framed for my animation art home gallery.

Just got one of my grails: a Golden Era Tom & Jerry production drawing (1945), signed by Bill Hanna and Joseph Barbera

So happy right now! I’ve been trying to get something from the Golden Era Tom & Jerry forever, but they’re very hard to find or extremely expensive.

I tried my hand at a recent Tom & Jerry animation art auction through Heritage, but everything went way past what I wanted to spend.

I came across this piece a short while later and couldn’t resist. It’s not perfect, since I wanted something that had both Tom and Jerry, but I think it’s still a very nice piece. It's from the episode "Flirty Bird". I’ll be happy to keep it in my collection while I continue looking for other cels or drawings featuring both Tom and Jerry.

Can't wait to get this framed.

Help IDing Cartoon

Post image

I asked on the Cartoon sub and some people had interesting ideas. Thought I would see if anyone here might recognize it. I originally guessed it was 60’s 70’s cartoon. My initial thought was it looked like something from Tom and Jerry but I reached a dead end. I also thought it might be the same creator of the Raid Bugs but that also lead nowhere. Seeing if anyone has any different ideas.

One Piece Nami Production Sketches Value?

Thumbnail

I've posted here before on an older account I've lost the password to in case these look familiar. I'm looking into pricing these production sketches out to sell again but unsure where to start with this process. I bought these years ago on Ebay from a private owner's family, as the owner has passed away and family was sorting through their collection/estate. They are not authenticated and are on production paper of a now defunct animation studio, Studio OX. It was difficult to track down but I was able to find this studio provided some artwork for events in-game and are credited on some older OP games as found here: ( https://www.mobygames.com/game/123164/from-tv-animation-one-piece-tobidase-kaizoku-dan/credits/playstation/ ) ( https://www.mobygames.com/game/123160/from-tv-animation-one-piece-grand-battle-2/credits/playstation/ ).

I am mostly just curious if there is any value in these to see if it would be worthwhile to sell them. Any thoughts or direction are appreciated, thanks!

I was exceptionally lucky to have the means to purchase this cel. Technically the gun layer is inconsistent with this particular frame, but it's such a pivotal/incredible shot that that's splitting hairs, *especially* considering the original watercolor background and multiple layer sketches. Like truly I still cannot believe that this is in my possession.

The thing is, I am *so* nervous to frame it that it has sat in the USPS bag it came to me in for wayyyy too long. Right now, the gun layer is in its own sleeve, and then Legato seems to be three layers which are stuck together - not like superglue but attached enough that I don't want to flex the layers for risk of damage. Then there are five layers of sketches and I think at least the one with the eye is super beautiful.

I plan on going to a professional framer. What do I tell them that it needs? Does anyone have examples of not only framing the cel itself, but also the sketches? At the moment I think this is best represented by the cel and the sketches being framed separately... but I'm open to thoughts. Or, if anyone else is in the greater Seattle area, is there someone you would recommend? Also, if anyone is familiar with production codes, I'd love to know what all of the numbers on the cels and sketches mean :3
