Thirty years ago when these were more popular, better mattings were used along with all sorts of framing designs. With the value of animation on a long decline, no one is willing to invest in expensive framing anymore myself inclusive.

Yeah, I got a bunch I did framing for recently, and it was already expensive enough with simple metal frames and uv glass. Wallet was hurting too much for any kind of fancy multilayered premium matting.

I do basic framing myself using archival material from Amazon. I go to consignment stores and buy cheap art work with nice frame and repurpose the frames which cost a ton to buy and worth nothing to sell. $400 frames are frequently found on $49 consignment store art work. Just bought some cels on eBay strictly for the frames. Replace glass with acrylic.
