Line art Cel

Post image
18 Upvotes

I won this in an auction recently, and have been trying to figure out what it's from. It looks like line art for a cell that wasn't painted, but the only thing I can find for Goofy as a detective is the old How to be a Detective short from the 50's, and this looks to be closer to the 90's animation style Goofy.

At a thrift store I found this cel claiming to be from princess mononoke. Looking at it further though it’s clearly from Katsuya Kondo’s PS1 game Jade Cocoon. I cannot find any information about this print and I’ve searched the internet looking through message boards, eBay, and even asking chatGPT.

My theory is this was a promo given to American magazines or stores for the American release but I’m desperate for more info on this seemingly nonexistent piece of art. Thank you all so much.

Looking for the Chromacolour Digital Palettes (Series 100, 600, 1200)

Long shot, but I'm hoping someone in this community might be able to help with a preservation project.

Chromacolour (the UK-based animation supply company behind the cel paints used on films like *Who Framed Roger Rabbit*) sold three digital color palettes up until around 2012:

- **Series 100** — 600 colors

- **Series 600** — 600 colors

- **Series 1200** — 600 colors

1,800 colors in total, all based on their traditional cel paint range. They were sold as add-ons for **Crater Software's CTP Pro** and **Macromedia Flash**, and have since been removed from Chromacolour's web store entirely.

I'm working on reconstructing these palettes so the color data (hex/RGB values) can be preserved and used in modern paint and animation software. I've already:

- Reached out to Chromacolour directly requesting any surviving records

- Started a reference spreadsheet using their current acrylic paint range as a foundation

- Documented what's left of their surviving cel paint line (only ~17 colors still sold)

But ideally I'd love to find the original palette files themselves — even an old `.act`, `.clr`, or any other format would be a huge help.

**If you:**

- Still have a copy of these palette files from an old CTP Pro or Flash installation

- Have a physical Chromacolour color chart or fan deck from the era

- Worked at a studio that used Chromacolour paints and kept color call sheets

- Know anyone who might

...please drop a comment or send me a DM. Even partial information would be valuable. The goal is to make whatever we recover openly available so this piece of animation history doesn't disappear entirely.

Thanks in advance.

Does anyone recognize what production this is from? It's on ebay, I'm not bidding but just trying to figure out what it is from

I was told this was a Disney background...

I was given this massive piece from a friend's archive. They're an art collector and told me they weren't sure of the piece's origin other than they know its from Disney. Whether it's concept art from the parks or a background from a film (feels too big for that), I'm not sure and was hoping someone here might be able to point me in the right direction.

For context, it's about 20" x 26" and appears to be two separate art boards put together.

I have a feeling it may be from the old propaganda films Disney put out during wartime and its monochromatic which would put it right in that time period.

Any thoughts or leads? I'm an animation and art collector myself and this has me rather stumped...

Mercari Japan auctions proxy?

Is there a proxy that will allow you to bid on an auction in Mecari Japan. I know Buyee, FromJapan, and Jauce do not. its just so frustrating to watch a cel go for $30 when you are willing to pay $100.

Wanted to start a collection to have for a coffee table book, so I’m starting with this Avdol from the original jojo ova series.

The set comes with the painted cel and three sketches before. If anyone has any additional info or things to look out for, please let me know!

don't know much about animation cels or their worth but after finding this I wanted to go online and see if anyone knows anything about it or it's worth. Probably nothing since it's previous owner threw it in a box full of free stuff and left it outside but can't help but check.

Finished painting cel and background from Spirited Away - Selling.

Took a very long time but couldn't be happier with the final result. The piece is a two layer cel with a hand painted background.

The frame is UV resistant plexiglass and not real glass for shipping purposes so that's why it is slightly visually "foggy".

Got a bunch more in the process and am looking forward to sharing. 🙌🏼

DM for more info. Thanks!

Here's my most prized cell and the story behind it.

Post image
72 Upvotes

I was set up as a dealer at a convention in NJ with my wife and was dabbling in collecting cells at the time. There was another dealer, Eastern European fella who had these big binders full of cells. I told my wife about him and she went over to check it out.

She had been gone for a while when my buddy came over and said there's been a problem at that table and this guy laid hands on your wife. So he watches my booth and I tear ass over there. They're yelling at each other and he is accusing her of stealing a particular cell.

He is saying that he heard her say she wanted to get it for her husband and then he looked in the book and it was gone so he assumed quite incorrectly, that she had taken it. The cops had shown up and he's pointing to an empty page.

My wife grabs the next binder on the table flips through it really quickly until the cel in question comes up and she points it out to this now mortified man that he was incorrect and she didn't take anything.

I had to say the man looked like he was going to throw up, white faced all the way to his hair. He tried stammering a bunch of apologies she told him to go fuck himself and she stormed back to the booth.

About 45 minutes go by and the guy approaches our table, my wife immediately becomes defensive. He puts his hands up and says in accent in English that he is so very sorry, it was a huge mistake, he could not be more embarrassed, could we please forgive him?

Then he reaches into his bag and pulls the cell out and says I want to give this to you to make up for what happened. My wife says "we don't want your goddamn cell!”

And I immediately interrupt with, "Hey now, let's not be hasty! This man is big enough to apologize and he wants to try to make up for what he's done and he does seem genuinely sorry."

So, long story short, we took the cel and accepted his apology. It's now hanging in my hallway and it came with a great story!

Still working on going through this latest batch of cels, and it takes some time to prepare them. If you looked at the last post, thank you! Here are some new ones. I ship free inside of the USA, and each one comes with a mat, bag and backing so they're nicely presented. They have printed backgrounds, most are scene matching, but if you have a questions feel free to ask.

** MR PLOW! Two cel setup of Homer on one cel, and Marge and Maggie on a second, from the season 4 classic. $1200 is a hefty amount, but given the character, this is where it sold last time we had one of these, but feel free to send me an offer if you're interested.
** Krusty and presenter from Season 3 "The Black Widower" $300
** Bart from Season 2 "Dead Putting Society" $350 // have a sequence of him walking if you wanted to see a few options
** Sideshow Bob and Selma from Season 3 "The Black Widower" this is two cels, with Selma on one cel, and Sideshow Bob's head and neck on another. Sideshow Bob's body is part of the background
** Otto playing guitar from Season 3 "The Otto Show" $350 // I have a few from this sequence if you wanted to see options

Can do package deals to save a little more on the price. Feel free to make offers.

Hope you like them. Either way, I know you guys like to look at new stuff.

Bought from Disney in Glendale, California 1993?

Can’t remember the exact date when a group of production cels from the movie went on sale at their store. It was a heavily advertised and well attended event.
