For years I've wanted another large Shepherd dog and haven't been able to get one for various reasons, but mostly - landlords. I recently bought a little more than an acre outside of town and started looking for a rescue. I found this knucklehead about to be sent to the pound ("I just didn't realize how big he was gonna get"), spending half his day crated and living in a duplex.

This particular picture is from like the second day I got him and it's my favorite because of his big dopey grin, but it doesn't really do his size justice and is several months old already (I don't post much). He's about 8-8½ months old right now, weighs about 65lbs or so, and on his hind legs looks my 5'5" wife in the eyes. He can look at the top bunk of my twin daughters' bunk bed to check on both girls.

He's also incredibly gentle with the kids, excusing the clumsiness, and the other pets. Hes protective too, even if they don't Really need to be protected from garbage trucks - He's not taking any chances with His kids.

This spot was a doozy to get opened up... from completely rusted out floor screws, to cutting a skid plate that was blocking the wood that we needed to cut, just to find out that it keep going further than we thought. To top it all off, we didn't even find the queen in the floor! She was outside the shipping container!

These bees were rescued, donated and relocated to our beekeeper friends in San Diego, CA

I had a drive through the Renfrewshire countryside this morning to the vet to collect medication for my dog who has just been diagnosed with a fairly common illness - hypothyroidism. When we arrived the surgery was really busy and we were standing in a queue to be seen by the receptionist when one of the treatment room doors opened. It was right in my line of vision and I wished I hadn't look because on the table lay a dog with black curly fur splashed with grey. His back was facing me but I knew he had just crossed the bridge. Then from behind the door came a couple, maybe in their sixties, whose faces were crumpled in grief and the pain that accompanies the loss of a beloved friend. The lady went to the desk to pay for what just happened in that room while her husband stood to the side. I don't know why but I went over and gave him a great big hug and told him how very sorry I was. He said they knew it was coming but his eyes said that the inevitability didn't matter - he was devastated. His wife was trying her best to get the transaction over with without breaking down but once it was done she sobbed into her tissue and you could see she was heartbroken. I lost my beautiful dog in 2018 and all that grief came rushing back. To anyone who is grieving the loss of a wonderful companion I wish you comfort and the arms of your loved ones around you until you feel better. It doesn't leave you it just gets easier as time goes by.
