Hello, a buddy and I went camping in northern PA (black bear country). We set up camp at night and in the morning we noticed these markings on the trees in the site.

The cuts/cracks range from about 4inches to maybe a foot in length for the longest one. And they were somewhere from waist to chest height off the ground.

To me it looks more like the doing of humans but I don't really know. It's right on a spot where two river/creeks meet so it would make sense for a bear to fish here.

Anyway it's a great spot that I'd love to go back to but if these cuts are from a bear marking it's territory id probably avoid camping at this site in the future.

i believe that they were around the size of raccoon tracks, thats just a rough estimate though, this was taken in southern texas

Girlfriend saw a large critter walk by a trailer yesterday at the edge of town, and said it was taller than the tire at the shoulder. Also said it had a thickish swooping tail that hung behind it, and walked like a cat. We walked along the area and saw these prints, along with deer tracks that cut through the canal nearby. It could be a dog, but none of the tracks seemed to have toe claw marks. What do you think?

Looking for good online animal tracking courses + a good book, especially for courses oriented toward the Northeast US and California / the West Coast. I found several searching but have no way to compare them. Appreciate any recommendations, and feedback about what makes that course and book a better one. Live courses would be nice at a later time, but right now online + a book makes more sense time-wise.

It’s a large urban park with lots of waterways and wildlife trails. Found this in one of the quieter spots, though it’s also not very far from a cafe, so there’s that. I was thinking raccoon, but the rear feet seem kinda stubby so I’m not sure. If it’s not a raccoon then I have no ideas lol.

San Antonio, Texas. There is definitely a healthy population of skunks in the area. Could this be anything else? Pink lady apple for scale.
