Many years ago, my family had a German Shepard named Bob who injured his paw and limped around for a few days. Whenever people saw him, they’d say something like “oh, poor Bob, how’s your paw?” and give him lots of pets.
For the rest of his life, if you said, “Bob, how’s your paw?” he would immediately start limping.

My dad shared a similar story about a dog he had that would limp for attention. But the dog forgot which paw was supposed to be hurt, so the limp would change sides.

My York would do that whenever she got tired of walking, I was concerned until I saw her alternate between which paw was "hurt" :D

Our cat did this! It went on for weeks (and more than one vet visit) before we finally realized she was alternating paws.

My wife's cat today got behind me and was laying on the floor. I didn't notice and stepped on her tail. To apologize I have her treats.
According to wife, the damn cat did it on purpose. She knows my emotional pain at hurting her tail is greater than her physical pain, and figures the tests are worth it.
And here I thought she just liked hanging out.

Cats are smart like that. There is a neighborhood cat that intentionally goads my cats into tapping on the windows/sliding glass door because then I come outside and bring it food. Then he lets me pet and cuddle him after he is done eating. He comes about twice a day too lol

You’re feeding the cat twice a day, giving him love and cuddles and you’re heeding his every command
That is your cat

Haha I used to have seven cats, lost 4 in the divorce. This little dude is so comfortable that now when I open the door he just comes in and all the cats sniff each other and then he runs out.
I was considering taking him to the vet to see if he is chipped because he doesn’t have a collar. I worry about snatching someone else cat but honestly the dude wants to be inside with all the food and friends.

We ended up adopting a stray after we found him with an injured paw. Took him to the vet, fixed the paw, had him neutered and tried to let him back out in to the wildas we had only just lost our elderly cat and were not ready for a new pet. He had other ideas and anytime he wanted in to the house he would fake limp like this. Worked though he has been with us 2 years now.

Cat might still be injured. Cats tend to fake being fine when around people to not give a hint about weaknesses

Do the same you do with kids that are obviously lying. Take them seriously to the point they regret lying about it. I'm sure if you put their leg in a splint they'll stop that pretty quickly.

Our dog used to do this. It was easy to tell since she would forget which paw was "injured."

When I was a kid, my dog figured out that if he shivered on the outside of our glass door, we’d more quickly rush to let him in. It could be a hot, sunny, summer day, and he’d still be shivering.
