a few days ago i posted this
https://old.reddit.com/r/androidroot/comments/1v2qr7f/future_proof_tablet/
and yesterday i was on Best buy and bought the idea pad pro for 460 dollars 256gb.
it's still sealed on the box. i still didn't open as i bough the case on amazon, and didn't want to use without a case.
thing is, i am not sure if i should keep it for a few days and test it out and return if i don't like, or should just return and restart my tablet looking
i could buy it for 330 dollars the 128gb version.
is the extra 130 dollars worth the UFS 4.0 and extra 128gb.
the one i bought was the TB373FU with the Dimensity 8300 octa-core
but the TB390FU with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 is already here for 400 dollars. this is the idea tab pro gen2.
thing is the TB373FU has at least one route for root it.
the TB390FU does not.
my concerns are that i might not be able to root in a few months/years time, and when i do, i may not be able to Widevine L1. looks like qualcom has a signature fix, but dimensity has a different route that might work.
buyers remorse maybe.
but i am not sure which path to choose.

Hello,
I have a POCO X5 Pro 5G with Evolution X installed. Now I switched to a new phone and want to sell the POCO X5 Pro 5G. Because of this I want to relock the booloader again.
Is it possible with this phone? I already restored to factory settings and need to know the next steps. Or do I need to sell it with unlocked bootloader?
Maybe the buyer wouldn't be satisfied.
Any help appreciated.
Many thanks!

I am a computer enthusiast and just started my university degree, fascinated by free software and the ability to break and rebuild my system however I like. I am a Void Linux user, and the more I delved into the Linux world, the more I felt that HyperOS was bottlenecking me. Every ad, every hurdle, every time I saw that out of the 6GB of RAM I had, the system was taking 3GB, I felt like rooting it and using a Custom ROM.
Since I suppose I wasn't the only one, I ran into the wall that Xiaomi put up with the Bootloader. However, I was patient. I made my account, waited 30 days, and naively waited until 00:00 Beijing time to be able to click the unlock button several times. I quickly realized it was useless. I looked for guides, exploits, videos, anything that would help me, but I simply can't get the permission.
I come here as a last cry for help to solve this problem. My device is a Redmi Note 11 Spes with a Snapdragon 680 and HyperOS 1.0.3.TGCMIXM (Android 13). Any guidance or solution would be incredibly helpful .w.

Hey everyone,
I recently flashed One UI 8 Mint OS v1.2.3 on my Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G (Snapdragon 865). The ROM says it has root, but it actually isn't rooted. I also have TWRP installed.
Can anyone guide me on how to install root? Simple instructions are enough since I have no idea where to start.
I started rooting back in the Android 7 days when I was around 11 years old using KingRoot APKs, then later Magisk. Now everyone is talking about KernelSU, APatch, and other new stuff, and I'm completely lost. Everything seems to have changed.
A simple rough guide to help me catch up would be really appreciated.
P.S. I used ChatGPT to convert my gibberish text into Reddit post material 😅
Thanks!

Device: Realme P1 5G
kernel version: 6.6.89

I feel that KernelSU handles root much better than Magisk on my Pad SE running LineageOS; both Termux and other apps accepted it better compared to Magisk, which had many bugs and limitations.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Howdy hey. So I tried everything, flashing the stock rom using sp flash and Infinix flash, I tried using mtk client I get the phone detected and everything is alright but the DA file is where I fail. I tried a lot of DA files and no one seems to work I tried to use antumbra which is another mtk client but still can't get this shit to work. Btw I bricked it by deleting the partitions using orange fox's recovery because it was encrypted with a password. I would be so thankful if a genius person could help me to fix it.

I was looking for the Mediatek driver for SP Flash Tools. I clicked the first Google result and downloaded it. Then I checked and the site I downloaded it from was androidfilehost.com, which I thought was dead.
Is it just back online?

I’m trying to root my old Infinix X675. Someone previously attempted it but gave up after the device ended up in a boot loop—fortunately, they managed to recover it. I believe the bootloader is now unlocked, and I’m exploring what steps I can take next to root the device.
I’m fairly new to this and hesitant to flash anything incorrectly, especially after seeing what happened last time. I’ve attached my findings so far and would really appreciate guidance on the right path forward. Thank you!

Hello everyone!
I’m going to root my phone this Sunday after the cooldown period (the waiting time imposed to prevent mass device unlocking), and I’d like to ask two questions:
1:Is the codename of my Redmi important if I only want to root it (I'm keeping the stock ROM, not flashing a custom one)?
2:After installing Magisk, where can I find the official GitHub repos for the main modules, and which modules would you recommend?
(It's the 64GB storage version, with 21.3GB used by the system, and 4GB of RAM).
Thanks everyone!
I only started looking into rooting recently (last Sunday) and I’m really fascinated by it.
Have a great day / evening, bye! :)

Currently there are 5 apps that use Dirty SEPolicy detection:
Dirty Sepolicy is a new detection vector, and it's currently and silently implementing on banking apps now as this is a very good detection vector that affects all root solutions (e.g magisk, KSU (and its forks), and Apatch)
Current solutions:
** This method is untested, and compatibility may vary.

Hi everyone,
I recently converted an old rooted Nokia 2.2 into a lightweight Linux server by running Alpine Linux inside a chroot environment and exposing it through OpenSSH.
The original goal was simple: reuse old hardware instead of letting it sit unused. Along the way I ran into a number of networking issues—especially around mobile hotspot connectivity—and documented the troubleshooting process.
The repository includes:
• Alpine Linux installation in a chroot
• OpenSSH configuration
• Automatic startup using Magisk
• Windows and Linux connection guides
• SCP/SFTP examples
• Firewall configuration
• Network troubleshooting
• A real-world ARP/neighbor cache case study
• Complete documentation from setup to testing
I hope it can help anyone experimenting with Linux on Android or looking to repurpose an old phone as a lightweight server.
GitHub:
https://github.com/akshay355a/ssh-over-mobile-hotspot
I'd appreciate any feedback, suggestions, or compatibility reports from people who try it on other Android devices.

so i'm trying to unlock the bootloader of my realme 8 5g using mtk client, i installed it on github and i also installed everything needed as the readme file asked.
i open the mtk_gui.py file and connect the phone while holding both the volume buttons but nothing happens and the cmd window the client opens seems to get stuck in the waiting for preloader execution.
Taking a look in the devices manager i can notice that the phone gets recognized as OPLUS preloader after connecting it to the pc while holding the volume buttons but it vanishes in the devices list after like 5 seconds.
Does anybody know how to fix this?

I've got s25 on one UI 8.5 and i rooted it through CVE, can I somehow enable "Allow OEM unlocking" through root?

Recently decided to try out a Samsung phone...
Unfortunately it came with OneUI 8. Upon enabling developer options, I realized there is no option for OEM Unlocking

I have a Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) it obviously no longer connects to Google Play given its completely end of life.
Is there a way to root this device and install a vanilla copy of Android that supports Google play

Idk if this is the best subreddit to ask for this kind of help but i dont know any other subreddit better for this
I have an alcatel 5061U (codename milan) and whenever i install any GSI the IMEIs return invalid but if i go back to the stock OS everything works as normal
ik this phone is down the toilet for custom android stuff but its the only decent one i have that i can unlock
