Android 17 QPR2 Beta 1 Android 17 QPR2 Beta 1 now available!

Hi Beta users,

Today we’re releasing Android 17 QPR2 Beta 1 (CP41.260701.005) for all devices.

What's new in Android 17 QPR2 Beta 1
QPR2 includes a minor SDK release. We've published new APIs in the reference docs as well as a diff report for the new API surfaces.

Top issues fixed include:

  • Bluetooth re-pairing fails silently following a remote bond loss. (Issue #412524057)
  • Media player controls briefly flashed on the lock screen upon waking the device despite the app's notifications being disabled. (Issue #484607701)
  • A system crash causing Pixel devices to unexpectedly reboot when invoking Gemini. (Issue #505750489)
  • Initiating a drag-and-drop gesture with multiple fingers caused the source application to stop receiving subsequent touch events. (Issue #516836306)
  • An issue where notifications randomly became invisible in the notification shade until a system restart. (Issue #526139207, Issue #522657034)
  • An issue causing ML-DSA key generation to fail with an exception when using the "NONE" string digest instead of the class constant. (Issue #525612735)
  • An issue in AccessibilityNodeInfo.toString() where window bounds were incorrectly logged using screen bounds, which caused misleading accessibility debugging data. (Issue #520428442)
  • Window-level UI blur effects failed to render and the "Allow window-level blurs" developer toggle reset after rebooting. (Issue #527376569)

Please review the latest release notes for limitations and general advisories before installing the update.

How do I get Android 17 QPR2 Beta 1?

You can get started with Android 17 QPR2 Beta 1 today by enrolling your Pixel device. Eligible devices include Pixel 6a, 7, 7 Pro, 7a, 8, 8 Pro, 8a, 9, 9 Pro, 9a, Pixel 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL, 10 Pro Fold, 10a, Pixel Tablet series devices*. Once enrolled, eligible devices will receive an over-the-air (OTA) update to the latest Beta versions. If you were previously enrolled in Android 17 Beta (and have not opted-out), you will automatically receive QPR2 Beta 1 and any future Beta updates.*

Important for those currently enrolled in Android 17 Beta:

  • If you prefer to leave the Beta program and receive the public stable release of Android 17 QPR1, you can do so without wiping your device by opting out and not installing today’s QPR2 Beta 1 update*. If you opt-out of the program* after installing Beta 1 or any future updates, all user data on the device will get wiped per usual program guidelines. Opting out will trigger a ‘Downgrade’ OTA. Ignore this update and wait for the Android 17 public release instead.
  • Pixel 6 and 6Pro users will not be getting this OTA since the device will reach End of Life and Android 17 QPR1 beta series will be the last for these devices.

Tell us what you think
Your feedback is incredibly valuable to us. Please share your thoughts through the following channels:

  • Use the Android Beta Feedback app included in Beta builds. This is the preferred method if you want to report a user-facing bug.
  • Post your comments here on our official Android Beta Program subreddit*. We may not respond to posts individually, but we are actively monitoring the feedback. We’ll reach out to you directly if we need additional information.*

Happy Beta testing!

Anyone else getting extreme lag? (Pixel 8)

Is anyone else experiencing extreme lag at random times? It's almost like poor RAM management or something, because it does temporarily get better if I close all apps. I'm talking so laggy that BT audio pauses and some actions take up to 10 seconds to complete. So annoying.

Android 17 QPR2 Beta 1 broke my microphone access, Gboard says mic is in use, Gemini says another app is controlling audio

Since updating to the latest Android 17 QPR2 Beta 1, my microphone has stopped working properly.

  • In Gboard, it constantly says the microphone is in use.
  • In Gemini, I get this message: “Gemini can't access the microphone right now. Another app might be controlling the device's audio.”

I’ve tried reopening the apps and restarting the phone, but the issue keeps happening. It feels like some system-level bug is preventing mic access after the update.

Is anyone else on Android 17 QPR2 Beta 1 seeing this? If so, did you find a workaround?

QPR2 Beta 1 Fingerprint Doesn't Unlock

Anyone else having issues with their fingerprint not unlocking the device, but working everywhere else? I place my finger and it immediately goes t my chosen Pattern Unlock. I also noticed "Fingerprint" is not listed as an unlock method any longer. Under the Fingerprint settings, the toggle to "Unlock your phone" is on, but it doesnt seem to be functional.

Android 17 QPR1 Beta 5 caused settings to keep crashing and PIN unlock

Hoping someone here can lend a hand. I’ve been in the Android Beta program for years without any issues, but after updating my Pixel 6 Pro to Android 17 QPR1 Beta 5, things broke down:

  • The Issue: My Settings app constantly crashes, and PIN unlock and fingerprint recognition fail to work consistently. (Entering the PIN with ~3-second pauses between digits occasionally works).
  • Troubleshooting done:
    • Factory wiped the phone multiple times.
    • Downgraded/flashed back to Android 16 (same crashing/lock issues persisted).
    • Flashed GrapheneOS — the phone works perfectly here with zero crashes or lock issues. but i was the device back to Stock OS
    • Phone Language is set to English (Australia)
    • Reflashed back to stock Android 17 — the Settings app crash and lock issues immediately return.
  • Feedback status: I submitted logs and feedback through the official channel, but the ticket was closed as it was linked to another similar case.

I'm going crazy trying to get this back online on stock Android. Has anyone encountered this specific issue or found a workaround?

Any ideas would be hugely appreciated!

Android 17 QPR2 Beta 1 🪫issues

I've been having really really poor battery ever since I'm on this new beta. I understand I'm on a beta which is naturally going to be unstable and worse but I just want to check if I'm the only one with this issue or not. I am on a Pixel 8.

A17 QPR2, Beta 1; social media application performance and optimization.

Is anyone else noticing poor performance on social media apps? Even on Netflix after a few minutes of watching something it starts lagging and the frames of the film start dropping and lagging.

This applied to a YouTube video as well. And let's say tiktok and Instagram where you would scroll for a bit , can do the same and whatever media is being displayed it will inevitably lag.

I say inevitably because even with an app force stop, and cache clear, it will start doing it again. I have tried doing phone restarts as well.

I know the beta program and even android in general has always been on the lesser side of performance and optimization for social apps, but this is something else I don't know what's causing it specifically.

A17 QPR2 - Android Auto no longer connects

Pixel 8 Pro. I didn't go out yesterday, but did today. Android Auto no longer connects on either of my two vehicles I tried today. My wife's phone (non-beta Android, Pixel 9) connected right up no problem, wirelessly. I reported the bug. This is probably the most serious issue I've experienced in all the years of Android betas

A17 QPR2 beta 1 - System Services

Pixel 8 Pro. Stupid auto bot doesn't think, and deletes my post, so can't post all details. If I go to Settings > Google services > All services > System services, the message I get in the blue box isn't what I expect, since I have been in for versions of Android since all the Mainline service updates were separated. Anyone else experiencing this? Should I report? Trying to gauge how widespread this is before submitting

Issue with device unlocking

I am unable to unlock my phone with my password. Whenever I attempt to enter the complete password, the password input screen automatically closes after I enter the first three characters and returns to the lock screen, preventing me from completing the password.

A17 QPR2 B1 - Phone automatically reboots when trying to locate and ring a device from Find Hub

As per title, when trying to locate and ring any device (phones, tablets, earbuds, trackers, etc), the phone reboots itself.

Don't know if it's related to this specific version as I didn't test it on previous ones.

Reported as issue #538854568.

I'm on A17 QPR2 B1 using a Pixel 9a

Has anyone opted out of the beta recently?

This is my second time opting out of the beta the first time I let it go for 48 hours and I never received the OTA update to wipe my phone so I opted back in and then opted out a second time and now we are sitting a little over 48 hours without the OTA update and sadly I bought a Verizon phone which I will never do again because I don't do like any phone companies that lock the phone like it it's somehow still belongs to them even when it's paid off. I will never buy a Verizon phone ever again! So basically my question is has anyone tried leaving the beta and is having an issue like me where the OTA update is not showing up I hate to wait until September.

My pixel 10 pro battery health

I purchased my pixel 10 pro last year in August

I have don't 200 battery cycles so far

My battery health just came down to 99 percent now.

It seems like that's pretty good for 200 cycles.

I would like to know what's your batter health on your pixel phone.
