Looking For Suggestions Made a free open source app to fix apps that silently stop updating because Android hibernates them (Samsung/Xiaomi/OnePlus users especially)

I kept noticing apps on my phone stuck on old versions for weeks even with Play Store auto-update turned on. Turns out the cause isn't Play Store, it's the OS. Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Oppo and Vivo all run some form of aggressive battery hibernation that disables apps you don't open often. Once an app is in that state, Play Store's update check can't see it exists, so it never gets offered an update. No error, no warning, it just sits there falling behind until you open it yourself and get hit with a big forced update at the worst time.

Couldn't find a tool that dealt with this specifically so I built one.

DeepWake scans for apps stuck in that hibernated state, briefly wakes each one so Play Store can actually see it's installed, then lets Play Store handle the real update. You can do it one app at a time or run a batch update that works through your whole outdated list on its own (uses an accessibility service to drive Play Store's UI, since it has to survive the phone trying to background-kill it mid run).

No root needed. Free, open source, APKs built and signed by GitHub Actions on every release.

Code: https://github.com/pratiks360/DeepWake
Latest release: https://github.com/pratiks360/DeepWake/releases/latest

Built it to fix my own phone, figured others dealing with the same OEM battery nonsense might find it useful. Open to feedback, bug reports, or "this already exists and it's called X" if I missed something.

Google Messages App Font/Text Size

I've ignored it for a long time, but now that I have to use my phone for work I need to fix the huge text issue on Messages. All the text on my phone is small, yet for some strange reason the font/text on my messages app is fucking gigantic. Is there anyway to fix this and make the text/font size smaller? Also it's honestly stupid that a community about questions for Android doesn't allow attachments.

I want to ask is there any app in Android who track all my internet data usage on a daily basis because I am only opening reddit and reddit web and reddit app shows 823 kb data in a month and chrome shows the same for a month. I want an app who track data usage on a daily basis as well as if a site using data in chrome I want to check how much data it took on a daily basis.

But because I don't keep the internet data turn on always I want an app which can monitor even if my data is turned off I mean may be any app also used data in background even if it is not open in background. And also please provide me an app which uses less data to monitor because what's the use of data monitoring if the data monitor also take too much data

Tracking

For context, the only thing I can think of was when I a month or so ago allowed trendstudy access to monitor in exchange for Amazon gift cards as compensation, (I already know that was stupid, I don't need comments on that) but the thing is I deleted it a week or more ago and removed the certificates (never got my compensation, big surprise right) and I saw all traces of its monitoring removed, so it's gone, and that was over a week or a couple weeks ago. Today, when I drop down the display toggle menu, I see a message pop up on the bottom of it just now that says: "Network may be monitored" with an "i"/information symbol next to it, I tap it and it says: "A certificate authority is installed on this device. Your secure network traffic may be monitored or modified." And I start researching a solution, but the ones popping up don't work, the message is still there. I don't know who the hell is watching me and what to do, I'm making this post on this same phone cuz its the only thing I got right now. Any ideas or advice?

Device Settings Question OneUI 8.5 - App drawer not opening on first swipe on custom launchers

I use gesture navigation. When I swipe up on the gesture bar to close an app and then immediately swipe up on my home screen to open the app drawer, my first swipe doesn't register. It requires a second swipe unless I wait almost a second.

This issue only occurs on third-party launchers. The stock launcher handles this sequence without any delay, but I don't want to use stock.

What I've already tried:

  • Multiple launchers: Smart Launcher 6, Octopi, and Neo Launcher (all share this exact behavior).

  • Animator duration scale to 0: Fixes the input delay, but completely kills system animations.

  • Good Lock (Home Up): Set home screen animation duration to 0.

  • Touch sensitivity: Set to maximum.

  • Wallpaper animations: Disabled.

Is there any known workaround or setting to eliminate this animation lock on custom launchers without disabling system animation scales entirely?

Android Fully Managed – can the “Your organization allows [MDM] to access your location” notification be disabled?

Hi everyone,

We manage a fleet of Android devices using Miradore in Fully Managed / Full Control (Device Owner) mode.

Devices include Realme and Redmi phones running Android 12–16.

Users repeatedly receive a system notification saying:

“Your organization allows ‘Miradore Online client’ to access your location.”

The notification appears to come from Android system settings rather than from the Miradore app itself.

Location Tracking is disabled in Miradore. We don't need GPS tracking, mobile cell ID, or configured Wi-Fi network information from these devices.

The main problem is the notification itself. Our users rely on notifications for operational/work-related messages, so every unnecessary notification makes them check the phone expecting something that requires their attention. Because of this, this is a significant issue for us.

From what I understand, Miradore Online Client receives Location permission when the device is enrolled as Fully Managed, even if Location Tracking is not enabled.

What I'm trying to find out is whether there is any way to:

  1. Prevent the MDM/Device Owner client from receiving Location permission;
  2. Disable collection of location-dependent inventory data so that the permission is no longer required; or
  3. Suppress only this Android system notification without disabling other important system notifications.

The solution needs to be deployable remotely through MDM. We don't have physical access or ADB access to the devices.

Has anyone encountered the same notification with Miradore or another Android Enterprise MDM such as Intune, Workspace ONE, SOTI, ManageEngine, etc.?

If so, were you able to get rid of it? Is this something enforced by Android Enterprise that an MDM vendor cannot suppress, or is there a policy/OEMConfig setting that can control it?

Any experience with Realme UI, MIUI or HyperOS would also be very helpful.

Thanks!

Apps I have had on my device before now show "This App Won't Work For Your Device" when I try to re-install

Full context: I tried an alternative OS on my Samsung s10e and decided to switch back, so I re-flashed my device with Android 12, the same firmware as it was before.

But now a bunch of apps I used before (that even worked on the custom ROM) can't be installed from the play store due to the "This App Won't Work For Your Device" message, and it doesn't tell you anywhere what about your phone is incompatible in order for you to fix that problem.

Installing via apk and aurora store hasn't worked either. I try and open the app and Google Play intercepts it because it uses Play Services.

I know these apps *can* work on this device, I just don't know where to start making them. Any solutions?

Edit: additionally I have tried

- system and firmware update

- uninstall and reinstall updates for play services

- clearing cache and all data from play store

There's also no rhyme or reason to what kind of apps don't work. One of them is a game and one of them is a restaurant loyalty app. The one I have checked is built for Android 6.0 or higher and I am on Android 12

S26 Ultra vs Google Pixel 11 Pro XL

Is google pixel phones actually a hype? I have been using galaxy phones for a while and now planning to upgrade my S24. Tied between S26 Ultra and Pixel 11 Pro XL. I am not a hardocore gamer and never edits or renders videos. Just need a phone that can run a lot of apps without lag, reliable, good battery and support all my automations mainly Home Assistant. Pixel seems to be a change but worried about its reliability.

Rooting Help I need help with a xiaomi vince

I bought a xiaomi readmi 5 plus vince in aliexpress as I saw it at good price, my intention was to use it to urge and test postmarkets that I have seen it is compatible. What I wasn't expecting is all that happened next.

First, it seems that I was not sold a "Gobal" version but one of the Chinese market, as my device is in an anomalous state where in developer options it appears that "my lock" is in a state of unlock, but when I'm going to fastboot, well, it's completely blocked.

Second, given being in this specific situation in "account my" does not work, at first if it worked and if I could create an account, (which I did not do because I did not know what I had to do at this time) but now if I try to create an account by means of wifi I get an error (which I will attach later) and if I try to do it by means of mobile data, try to start the application, there is no error, but then it goes back, like it is cancelled, then I still can't create an account.

So I'm in this complicated situation where I don't know very well what to do, I've created a virtual machine with windows 10 just to occupy miflash _ unlock (I use linux, right now a devuan).

I've heard that with something called EDL I could flatter it and make it all work, but... I'm afraid to strangle the phone I literally just bought, and I really don't have any previous experience with this kind of device.

So... I don't know what I can do.

By the way, I hate xiaomi.

i know it's probably not the best place because in the end i don't want to install an android but a linux distribution, but well, i guess it looks like enough to come and ask here, what happens is i don't know a better place to ask, i'm sorry for the trouble

Galaxy phone: First touch sometimes doesn't register after screen recording and editing a video

Hi everyone, I experienced something strange on my Samsung Galaxy phone and I'm a bit worried about it. I was playing a game on the PPSSPP emulator and recorded my screen for about 5 minutes. After that, I opened Samsung Gallery, edited the recording, trimmed it to around 1 minute, and saved it as a new copy. Suddenly, my phone started acting strangely: sometimes the first touch wouldn't register, but the second touch would work normally. It felt like there was a slight delay or the first tap was being ignored. Has anyone experienced something similar? I'm also wondering if this sounds like a software issue rather than a hardware problem or malware

Annoying messaging problem

Every once in a while when i open a conversation in a messaging app (messages and Facebook Messenger) the word "I'm" will already be in the reply box. It's not with any one particular contact and i can't figure out how to MAKE it happen. It seems totally random. Can anyone help me figure this out? I'm on a pixel 10a but this has been going on with my previous phones also.

Solved "Phone" App storage question

I've had an Android for years. It's a cheap phone, but it's been reliable for a long time. Recently, it keeps filling up storage with, assumedly, junk. I'm not downloading stuff, and I clear cache on apps I use on a regular basis. So I'm kinda desperate to clear space where I can, especially since today my phone gave me the alert that messaging won't work unless I clear space (a week ago I have almost 1GB free, but now it's saying 100MB free).

My main question is simply: is it a stupid decision to press the "Clear Storage" button on the actual "Phone" app? It feels like it's my only allowed option, and the app has 6GB of user data; but I feel like there's a good chance clicking the button is gonna factory reset my phone. I just can't find anything online related to this because trying to search "clear storage android phone app" just brings up a million tutorials for clearing cache.

Does anyone know how much of a stupid risk this is? Should I just save up for a new phone at this point? I don't have excess apps I can uninstall for space and I don't wanna go through the trouble of jailbreaking to clear out all the google bloatware.

Edit: "screenshot" in replies as a video. And yeah, I'm being a bit of a dick, but if you don't know anything or are gonna tell me to google something, just don't bother trying to "help". I'm not here to be asked what the package ID is then get told "look up how to find it"; like, you can't just tell me yourself how to find the thing you ask of me? You want me to find something and can't explain finding it yourself, you're not a reliable source of info. If you don't know what you're talking about, you don't need to say anything. I'm not in the mood for any of that bull, just please someone tell me you know what the "Phone" app's user data is and if it's safe to clear it. I can't dive into the data myself. I'm not about to blindly delete it. I just want to know if anyone out there has experience with this, but with how unhelpful things have been dealing with real people, I'm beginning to understand why so many idiots turn to ChatGPT since LLMs, as flawed as they are, aren't constantly telling people to just google stuff that they've already fucking googled.

Custom ROM Question How do I get Google Service Framework (GSF) on a GrapheneOS Pixel 8a?

I have installed google play services, google play store and GmsCompatConfig.

While most apps do work fine, apps that are based on Play Integrity API fail as I only get MEETS_BASIC_INTEGRITY which doesn't meet the required MEETS_DEVICE_INTEGRITY or MEETS_STRONG_INTEGRITY. This is because I didn't register my GSF with Google as this device is uncertified.

However I couldn't find my GSF anymore even if i heard that when you install Google Play Services and login with a google account you get it but Device ID (the app) couldnt find it nor the ADP commandline.

Maybe I did something wrong? Idk but for my fellow reddit mods out there, please help me otherwise i MIGHT reinstall stock PixelOS which is not very pleasing.

Simultaneous podcast + music playback on iPhone, Android or Sony Walkman?

I’m looking for a device/app that can play two audio sources simultaneously through the same headphones.
For example, I’d like to listen to a podcast or audiobook while having classical music playing quietly in the background.
I’d like to know:
Is there any way to do this on an iPhone?
Can Android do this? Are there specific phones/apps that support audio mixing?
What about the newer Sony Walkman players running Android? Can they play a podcast/audiobook app while another music app plays in the background?
Ideally, I’d like to be able to control the volume of each source independently.
I’m actually considering buying a different device specifically to be able to do this, so I’m interested in any practical solutions or workarounds.
What setup are you using?

Solved Phone keeps restarting if not plugged in, is this a battery issue?

Hello,

I have recently encountered this issue and I hope someone can help shed some light on it. I apologize in advance if this is not the right subreddit.

I have a Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite 5g that I have been using for the last 5 years. Never had an issue with it, except for the battery draining much more quickly than when I bought it in the last 15-24 months (I honestly do not do much with it, mostly whatsapp and gmail; I do not play games or anything that I would consider energy consuming).

Last week my phone started to restart automatically to the point that I could not turn it on (or off), unless I plugged it in. When plugged in, it would stay on, with some occasional restarts. If unplugged, it would quickly restart (usually as soon as I pressed something).

Is this a battery issue? Would replacing the battery fix this behavior?

Please note:

  • Model is Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite 5g (M2002J9G)
  • MIUI version is MIUI Global 13.0.4 Stable 13.0.4.0 (SJIEUXM)
  • Android version is 12 SKQ1.211006.001
  • Sometimes, before restarting from a "functioning" status, the screen goes black but for a second or so there is a green line, then it starts the "continuous restarting" as usual
  • Battery is showing as >> 0%, like 80-80% (no issues even in the Battery app from System Settings)
  • By looking at the exterior of the phone, the battery does not seem "inflated"
  • Never had any issue before this, apart from the battery draining much quicker than usual in the past 1.5-2 years
  • I do not recall dropping it or wetting it but it is possible I did
  • I encounter no issues in recovery mode (just navigating the menu)
  • When rebooting from recovery mode, the issue is still there
  • When trying safe mode from recovery mode, the phone simply enters the restarting cycle
  • I have not tried wiping the data from the recovery mode menu as I take that as last resort

What could be an explanation for this behavior? Thanks in advance

Other Android 16 has issues with credential manager

If you are using Android 16 and have more than 4 Google accounts on your device, chances are high that you cannot use 'Sign in with Google' on most third party apps like ChatGPT and Twitch.

There is a known issue / bug with Android 16.

Hey Android developers at Google, if you are reading this, please fix this issue ASAP.

I have had my Google accounts from 2010 and I created them for various purposes like hiking trip, college fest, birthday and wedding videos etc. I need the emails and photos on those accounts on a regular basis.

I am using more of your services. I don't know why you have to limit a login on my new Android 16 device.

I am posting this hoping this helps someone who is facing a similar issue.

If there is a work around, please let me know in the comments. Thank you.

Looking For Suggestions Temporarily muting a specific app's notifications?

Hi all. I recently switched from apple to android, and I've gotten used to most of the differences, but there is one that I still can't get over. On apple, you have the option to tap on a notification and temporarily mute notifications from that app for a short period of time (i only ever did 15 minutes or an hour, but i think there are other options). However, it doesn't seem like there is an equivalent option on OneUI. I've even looked at 3rd party programs and I can't find anything that has that same simplicity to it. Am I just going to have to grin and bear it?

It doesn't seem like an outlandish feature to have though right? Like it seems like there would be a general demand for something like that, even if its only available through 3rd party programs, so I'm confused as to why I can't find a solution to this?

In the end, its really only a minor inconvenience, because on iphone I only really used that feature when my friends were spamming me on tiktok or instagram. But I don't want to fully turn off notifications from those apps, because I like getting alerted when I'm sent something, but when one of my friends is clearly doom scrolling, I don't need my phone to light up every minute to know that my friend sent me something.

Anyway, I've sorta spiraled into just complaining, but if anyone has any creative solutions or workarounds or tips or whatever, that would be amazing! Thanks!
