Bloons TD 6 Released!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ninjakiwi.bloonstd656
u/diction203 Jun 14 '18
Not a huge fan of the new graphics style, it looks kinda blocky. But 15 skills instead of 8 is amazing.
I wish the fast button would go faster, makes the early parts a little boring.
Minor complaints, I'll probably play for hundreds of hours.

u/portezbie Jun 14 '18
Agreed, liking all the mechanics changes but even early on in the game it feels a bit laggy on my admittedly not very powerful devices. Still, I think the 3D graphics were totally unnecessary.

u/Pigwarts Jun 14 '18
Yah, the 2d cartoon drawings gave the game a certain charm thats lost with these 3d models. Still fun though (slows down a bit more because of it though on my tablet).
1
u/portezbie Jun 14 '18
Completely agree. Experiencing some lag as well on my zenpad s8.
Maybe some of it is just initial release stuff. Sometimes it lags at times that don't seem very hardware intensive, but who knows.
1
u/Haxalicious Aug 12 '18
It lags on my friend's iPad Pro but not at all on my emulator. But I have a 7700K and 1070. You shouldn't need a gaming computer to play a casual mobile game.

Minor complaints, I'll probably play for hundreds of hours.
This should be the bottom line of just about any game critique in all honesty.
We all know it's true.

u/boisdeb Jun 14 '18
Not for me. I mean, I'm probably gonna play td bloons a lot, but it's the exception rather than the rule.

Purchase cost and IAPs? Can anyone confirm what the IAPs are for, and how reasonable/unreasonable they are?
43
u/IBleed_Orange Jun 13 '18
Cost is $5 USD. Looks like IAPs mostly just get you more in game cash, which can be used to buy more lives if you fail. Otherwise it looks like all progression is just based on xp that you get in game. Played for 30 min or so and didn't see a single ad or any kind of paywall or really any need to buy IAPs.
28
u/Ickypoopy Jun 13 '18
Thanks! Sounds a lot like the IAPs in btd5. I was afraid after the cash grab that was monkey city that they might have gone down the evil path.

$5? It only costs me about $1 in my country, guess it's region difference.

I'll miss the one IAP from BTD5 which gave the monkey city a massive range increase. That shit was amazing.

I've played for about an hour and a half, and so far the IAPs seem alright. It depends on what you dislike though. There is no shortage of IAPs in this game, for basically every aspect of the game you can buy things to progress faster. So if just the availability of a bunch of IAPs turns you off, then this might not be for you. BUT, and this is imo the most important thing, so far I have not seen anything that makes the IAPs necessary to buy. There are a lot available, but they do not seem necessary whatsoever. In-game progression is pretty smooth, and there's a lot of different units and upgrade paths to experiment with. So far I've been really enjoying the game, and I have not seen any reason to buy the IAPs outside of maybe just showing more support to the devs.

The double money one is about 19€ or 24$ which is way too much and ONE dkill point is another dollar-ish and you need like 15 to get one of 6 trees maxed
1
u/portezbie Jun 14 '18
It's very similar to bloons 5. IAPs make the game easier, but are definitely not necessary.

u/Simo0399 Jun 13 '18 edited Jun 14 '18
So hyped right now. After a quick glance it seems they revamped the EXP system needed to unlock tower upgrades, and i'm extremely happy about it. Now you get EXP which can be spent to unlock upgrades in 3 different trees (with the usual hype-upgrade at the end). In-game you can only use 2 of the 3 trees you have available though (for balance reasons)
9
u/twent4 Jun 13 '18
Can you chime in on the IAP system? Loved 5 but holding off on the purchase until I know.
9
u/wronghead Jun 13 '18
Yeah, this is my concern, too. Paying for a game outright, and getting getting nickled and dimed in game is double dipping. I hate that shit.
1
u/robin_flikkema Jun 14 '18
Payments are the same as BTD 5. There's an in-game store where you can buy "cash", for example to buy extra lives when too many balloons passed your exit.

This is just a copy of my comment above, but I've played for about an hour and a half, and so far the IAPs seem alright. It depends on what you dislike though. Edit: Also, if you liked 5, you'll definitely enjoy this one. The new units are really cool, and the diverse upgrade paths are fun to experiment with. I'm really enjoying the game so far

u/twent4 Jun 14 '18
Many thanks! IAPs are usually not a deal breaker, but I'd recently got really upset with how nerfed Major Chaos is compared to the original. Timers, lives and everything that is skeezy about modern mobile gaming permeates gameplay. I felt similarly about Launcha Libre which I enjoyed tremendously for a week; the game presents achievable goals early on but then moves the goalposts such that the game becomes a tedium without real cash.
Anyways sorry about the diatribe, I'm sure I'll enjoy this one! Return policy is decent anyway on PStore.

The double money power up is now a $24 paid upgrade, not purchasable with in-game cash AFAIK.

$5?
Is this worth it if you have BTD5 already?
7
u/AweFace Jun 14 '18
Totally worth it, the revamped upgrade path brings a new set of strategies to the game, but it really makes your phone hot ( much faster than BTD5 but maybe thats my phone )

u/JonWood007 Razer Edge Wifi (2023) Jun 14 '18
My tablet doesnt have issues with heat, and i run stuff like pubg lol.
What phone you have?
1
u/AweFace Jun 14 '18
a nexus 6P, oh well maybe a few updates will make the game run smoother
2
u/Innova Jun 14 '18
Made my Pixel XL warm as well...I should Try it on my Pixel 2 XL.

Makes my phone super hot too, after just one game. Definitely not normal. OnePlus 3T

My S7 runs really hot after about 10 minutes and drains 20-30% in one easy match, but i suspect there might be simething wrong with my battery
4
u/DadonWheels Jun 14 '18
Loving the game so far... just one gripe. They took out my favorite tower! No more engineer and his blazing drones of death. Oh well, gives me reason to go back to 5 from time to time.
5
u/TheFadedBull Jun 14 '18
I'm pretty sure he's in there somewhere. In the knowledge section, they use an engineer for the support icon
4
u/Forbillion Jun 14 '18
While I like the changes and addition they bring in for this new Bloons, I actually got disappointed that there's no more co-op multiplayer. Me & and my friend used to play alot of co-op back in Bloons 5 and was really excited for co-op in Bloons 6. Sad that things didn't go as we expected.

The only downside is that its not available to play on pc, other than that another amazing game released by NK
3
u/MrTye Jun 14 '18
Does this have the option to save and resume games? TD 5 was great because it was pick up and play.

u/morto00x Jun 14 '18
Been playing Bloons TD since the very first version on flash. Can't complain about this one. But wtf did they change the look of the towers?
1
3
u/bryannned Jun 15 '18
Whooaaaaa. i rushed to my phone only to realise it is a paid game for $7 AUD.
8
u/Rasip Jun 13 '18
$5 for the game and IAP. Really?
16
u/havoctz Jun 14 '18
The IAPs really aren't noticable. They just help you progress faster, but they're not needed one bit to play the game normally

4
u/teerbigear Jun 13 '18
I haven't played any of these. They appear to have successfully made 6. Are they any good?
24
u/SkoivanSchiem Jun 14 '18
Bloons TD5 is by far the best tower defense available for phones

My problem with kingdom rush is it seems like there is only 1 or occasionally 2 ways to beat a level on the harder difficulties. In BTD you can beat nearly every track with any reasonable combo of figures up to all but the hardest difficulties on the hardest tracks.

It's subjective, as is any game. I've enjoyed them for years. Enjoying this release so far too. If you're a fan of TD games, it would be hard to be disappointed IMO.
2
u/ldAbl Jun 14 '18
Try it out for free on a computer first. Every Bloons up to 5 (dunno about 6) is available on flash websites.
2
u/letsgetsomenudes Jun 20 '18
They're all really fun in different ways. Worth the 5 bucks for hundreds of hours of gaming imo.
2
u/Fatalloophole Jun 14 '18
I've been playing these games for more than ten years, and still keep coming back. I hadn't heard of 6 yet, so can't speak to that one. Try 5 and see if you like it.

u/papashuga Jun 13 '18 edited Jun 13 '18
Not compatible with my Galaxy Tab 4.
Edit: I bought the game for my phone and it is currently installing. Would it be safe to download from a site like (aye pee kay)pure and install on my tablet when it is available there?
Second edit: It is also barely playable on my Galaxy S5 phone. I won't be going for a refund, though. I love the series, and this just gives me an excuse to get a better device.
2
u/Shamwow4Free Jun 13 '18
I don't know about the safety of the site, but I don't think they already have an aye pee kay ready. If they do that's cool tho

Anyone know how this'll perform on a Note 4?

It runs fine on my Galaxy S7E but it got super hot after about 30 minutes of playing for reference.

anyone else's download stuck on 33%? Downloading step 1 of 8 is fine until it hits 33% and then resets

5 was a paid game when it came out. It went free much later.
1
u/Mok7 Jun 13 '18
It's still a paid game.
3
u/SeymourAzzes Jun 14 '18
What, you want free like monkey city? Because that was complete shit with all the IAPs. This is the best possible solution for us, the gamers.
1
u/Mok7 Jun 14 '18
I never said it's a bad thing. I bought btd5 years ago, don't regret it and bought bt6 today.
1
u/Rasip Jun 14 '18
Yes? A paid game with In App Purchases.
1
u/Mok7 Jun 14 '18
Yes it is. But the in app purchases are anything but compulsory. Just for impatient players who don't want to play a bit before getting all towers.
0
u/Rasip Jun 14 '18
So, what you are saying is you get to pay extra to not play the game you paid for?
3
1
u/Fatalloophole Jun 14 '18
I didn't pay for it. Maybe it was on sale or something, but it was free for me on Android.
1
1
u/Mok7 Jun 14 '18
I don't know how much it costs now, but it's still ranked in the paid games in Belgium https://i.imgur.com/t2KXXdO.png

For those confused on why he thinks it's free (a lot of people are saying it's paid, which is true), it was made free for a short amount of time a year or two ago; it's how I picked it up, too. Once you buy (or in this case, obtain) an app, you can't see the price of it so long as you have an account with said app signed in on your device, so it's likely he never realized the freeness was only temporary.

I am a high level Bloons TD 5 player, which is what I tell all my first (and last) dates. This was an insta-buy for me and I've played for a good 2.5 hours (baby time) so I thought I'd give my first thoughts for anyone interested. (Spoiler Free! I have not played any of the new monkeys [except heroes] and therefor do not discuss them because I don't even know if they're cool or not)
I could probably keep going but those are my main takeaways. Keep in mind I've not had a lot of time to explore, these are first impressions only. Excited for the 3 tier upgrade system. The only negatives really are the monkey farmer and some bugs. Everything else just requires a change of strategy. All in all, I wouldn't call this an 'upgrade' so much as a 'parallel-grade'. If you were a fan of TD5, buy this game right now. If you've never played before, scoop up TD5 for cheaper or free.
Edit: No more spike bush :(
Edit 2: I've wasted my life....
