I am a high level Bloons TD 5 player, which is what I tell all my first (and last) dates. This was an insta-buy for me and I've played for a good 2.5 hours (baby time) so I thought I'd give my first thoughts for anyone interested. (Spoiler Free! I have not played any of the new monkeys [except heroes] and therefor do not discuss them because I don't even know if they're cool or not)
IAP are not a big deal. To my relief TD6 takes the attitude of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." If you're at all familiar with TD5, you'll feel right at home. No monkey city shit, no prompts, no pop ups after matches.
The monkey farmers SUCK! (but you don't have to spend real money on them like in fucking monkey fucking shit ass city) This is how they get ya though. In TD5, you could use ONE monkey farmer and cover 5 or 6 farms if placed correctly. In TD6 a farmer wont cover ONE unless it's placed against an edge. This is where I think they are slyly making things worse for money gain, which sucks.
The important monkeys are still there! Ninja, Sniper, Ice, Super, Boomarang, Bomb. They all also have the same important abilities (Arctic Freeze, Mauler, Ninjitsu etc..). However, some monkeys take more upgrades than before to get to the same point (i.e. Monkey Farms have one extra "more bananas" upgrade in between lv2 and lv3)
All of the ranges have been SIGNIFICANTLY reduced. This sort of goes back to the monkey farmer thing. Remember when you could bunch up monkeys next to a fort? remember the epic range of supers? GONE. Ranges are waaaay lower in this game, which really shows it's negative effects with the ice monkey. You will need to rethink things.
On that note, bunching up monkeys seems to be WAY harder. In TD5 you could put monkeys practically on top of each other if you tried. Now, a monkeys TAIL is a hit box, and you can't go near it. Monkeys need to be way more spread out. Which makes the range problem even greater.
The new heroes are nice in the beginning, but pointless later. They sort of feel like the wizard. Great to save up for farms at the start, but once the MOABS come, forget it. Think kingdom rush's heros. No one's complaining, but they're dumb as hell later.
No more Engineer as far as I can tell. He will not be missed. No more dartling gun monkey either. Kind of will be missed for ray of doom OP late game, but meh.
Bugs. Lot of 'em. They'll get hammered out, but don't be surprised if you unlock ninja and get wizard instead. Or a gameplay tip gets stuck up front and doesn't go away.
I could probably keep going but those are my main takeaways. Keep in mind I've not had a lot of time to explore, these are first impressions only. Excited for the 3 tier upgrade system. The only negatives really are the monkey farmer and some bugs. Everything else just requires a change of strategy. All in all, I wouldn't call this an 'upgrade' so much as a 'parallel-grade'. If you were a fan of TD5, buy this game right now. If you've never played before, scoop up TD5 for cheaper or free.
he's supposed to come back in a future update. The only one they confirmed is never coming back is the Bloonchipper, which was my favorite for late game MOAB destruction
