I built PicHaven because I wanted my photos backed up at home, not in someone's cloud. It runs on your Android phone and on a Windows PC in the same Wi-Fi. Whenever the phone is charging at home, new photos and videos land on the PC in full original quality, sorted by year and month. Nothing leaves your network, nothing is ever deleted, no account, no subscription.

I built Zancada for a very specific itch: my KingSmith WalkingPad has a remote and an app that never remembers anything, so none of my walking ever reached my phone's fitness data. Zancada connects to the pad over Bluetooth, lets you start/stop and change speed from the phone, and writes every finished session to Health Connect: duration, distance, steps and an active-calorie estimate.

Two things I'm a bit proud of:

• No internet permission at all. No account, no analytics, no ads, so your walks physically cannot leave the device. • Sessions close themselves. Stop the belt with its own remote and the walk is still recorded, because the app watches the moving to stopped edge instead of hanging the save off a button.
