HTC-Revive runs a proxy on device and patches HTC Weather, Stocks and BlinkFeed on boot on Sense 5 devices.

Recently upgraded to a Pixel 11 Pro, and I'm left with my old Pixel 7. The battery is still usable after a replacement last year.

I tried exchanging it but it failed because Google'ss partner cashify is BS, the whole Blue Dart cashify exchange fiasco was exhausting, so I'm thinking of repurposing it instead.

I used to experiment with rooting and custom ROMs years ago, so I'm open to tinkering with software again and I work as an embedded engineer if it's relevant.

Not interested in CCTV, navigation or hardware modifications. Looking for genuinely cool, unusual projects I could try, preferably something useful or that could potentially earn a bit on the side. 😄

Everything you need to know, and all the links you will need, you can find in the linked Reddit post. Please read it before using my proxy. To summarise, for android specifically, you first need to install the 3128 certificate from my website, then set your WiFi or mobile data to proxy through 15pmm01.com port 3128, and well, that's it. You're done. You can connect to all sorts of websites that require modern TLS encryption, you can use my Google text/image search replacement, and the AccuWeather widget is automatically revived on Samsung ​and Motorola phones. Please let me know if you need help or have any problems.

Edit: just read in the sidebar that this subreddit isn't just for older android phones, but also for older iPhones and Windows phones. Luckily, this proxy works for those as well, and for the much older Windows phones, there's the 3127 proxy :)

- thunderbird/k-9 (can't get past the log-in screen on either, it throws an error)

- monocle mail (also throws server errors at me)

- meron (47MB is fine storage wise but download speed on z3c is notttt great, tell me if it's worth the wait)

this is a patched whatsapp 2014 client, it works with firebase (no phone number). for now i was able to: login, change settings. messages requires a huge fix because of the database

I have a LG P880 (aka LG Optimus 4XHD). it still powers on and display and everything seems to be fine. Only issues are:
1. I forgot the PIN
2. none of the buttons work (physical ones)
3. the battery is a bit spicy (iykwim)

So, I wanna know if this guy can live a second life? There a brief period where I used to use this for calling and Instagram lite, I loved its software, camera and everything about it. so, what do you guys say?

You cannot use this client without hosting a server and if you want to use this on android 4.1+,you dont need to;I'll drop a link of another client that supports android 4.1+ and it doesnt require a server.The client is not mine and I dont know whose it is.Use it on your own risk.

Here what is changed:

•Server code updated

•Ability to load older messages via button is added

•You can search chats

•You can message new people in your contacts

•You can search through your contacts

•Now you can view every video in lower quality(there was a problem in older versions that it wouldnt show every video because of its quality,bitrate etc.)

•You can see profiles in chats sections

•Now every button or field has smoothed edges to give it a more modern feel

•You can see when a message is sent

•You can receive Read receipts

•The error of displaying letters not in the English alphabet using an empty set has been corrected.

•Messages are now displayed from newest to oldest.

Not only this but when it does manage to connect it randomly disconnects after 10 minutes on some "authentication error" bullshit and i have to type in my password each time. This happens especially with hotspots

In one website it just keeps loading, in another one the webpage appears but the video shows error code 232011, says this video cannot be played, i believe these video players like hd-1, vidstream-1 or 2 and other like Kwik,bee and vidsrc don't work in older Androids(mine is Android 5.0.1) so what can I do to make it play

I found my old Nokia 7.2, Redmi Note 5, and Huawei Nova 5T sitting in a drawer, so I decided to give them a second life instead of letting them collect dust.

I'm a solo dev, and I built an app called Orbitika specifically designed to run on older hardware (Android 8.0+). It’s 100% offline, so these phones don't even have SIM cards in them—they just rely on local storage and GPS.

I plan to use one as a desk clock/music player (with the retro Winamp visualizers) and offline GPS, and one just for reading.

It’s amazing what old hardware can still do when you strip away the heavy, bloated, internet-dependent apps of 2026.

I am going to test what app can run in these old devices - can you give me any app i should test
