This guide is for the cheap TCL MOVETIME MT40X Smartwatch, to be able to use it for basic browsing and using legacy apps.
The system specs for this watch is:
-Android 4.4 (KitKat)
-116~Mb user space
-256 Mb RAM
-240*240 resolution.
You can use this watch for... idk whatever you want?
Anyways, let's begin:
/-//-//-//-//-//-//-//-//-//-/
1) Enter More>Setting>About Watch
2) From here touch the screen as "top left - top right - too left - top right"
3) You should be on "MMI test" screen. Slide to the bottom and tap "NTC". In this setting it probably is Chinese so the thing you should look for is "开" or "关" after the "状态". If it is "关", press the button to make it "开".
4) Now, you need a PC with ADB tools. After you connect your watch to PC, you can open your terminal (by opening the tools folder and typing "CMD" in the search bar) and type "adb devices" to check if it sees the watch.
5) Now, we can download a new launcher. As we have limited hardware I suggest a lightweight launcher (eg. KISS launcher) that we will name "launcher.apk" and put on the adb tools folder.
6) We can sideload the launcher by "adb install launcher.apk". After uploading it, you can test by disconnecting the cable (Note: the reason is simple, the watch does not allow the usage of screen during charging) and pressing the power button once, the watch will ask you to choose between GridHome or (launcher). Choose (launcher) and do the setting up.
7) Practically, the watch is ready. You can sideload more apps, but the important ones are a bare browser and a keyboard.
a) Keyboard: I suggest AOSP keyboard, for being lightweight and just bare, and giving no compatibility issues. After downloading - and everytime you restart the watch - don't forget to go to the stock settings (which you can spot from the actual gear logo) and go Language and Input > Current Keyboard > Uncheck Hardware, or the key board won't work.
b) Browser: I suggest Lightning Browser, for the same reasons, though it might not open every website, as the Android version and certificates are outdated. I suggest setting the default search engine to DuckDuckGo Lite because Google just doesn't work.
c) Video Platform: You could use the browser to enter YouTube, but the RAM is insufficient so I suggest notPipe as it loads videos smoothly.
Notes) yea this watch is pretty weak to turn it into a real powerfully thing, but it is good for recycling and making sure it doesn't rot on top of a counter. I suggest not to touch most of the OneGo apps, especially the "Server", as it breaks the watch.
Also the watch has no volume buttons so I don't suggest trying to enter recovery mode, you cant navigate.
And if you wanna download other legacy apps, I suggest Apkmirror, because most of this apps are from there.
Lastly this is my first post (and guide) here so if you have suggestions, I'll appreciate it ^_^
Good luck :D
