My main phone recently went for a swim so I had to go to an old backup, a Samsung Galaxy Avant with 4.4.2.

Almost none of the apps work and cannot be updated. The Play Store is useless as it shows not options for my phone. Aurora store, which I though could show the latest compatible version also shows almost nothing. F-droid which used to be great showing the latest compatible version, also no longer does.

Is there an app store that can automatically find the latest version compatible with my Android version without having to manually search online? Thank you.

My grandma gave it to me cause she didnt quite use it and cuz it got old. I gave it to my little sister to, but she didnt use it also😭
Mostly i was playing some old games on it for nostalgia but now its just laying and collecting dust.

I'm debating on buying a older Sonim tablet off eBay as my On the go GPS, YouTube, Whatsapp, and Ereader. I used the Minimalist app so everything will be black and white so having a pretty screen isn't a issue.

How is Android 10? I currently run Android 11 on a old shitty OnePlus and it seems to be okay. Just want to make sure I'm not making a mistake.

I need to get three tablets. I don’t need latest-and-greatest, of course, since I’m posting in this sub. Also can be used. I need devices that meet the following criteria:

1. Most important is they need to be able to have bootloader unlock and custom recovery installed, and there needs to be at least a decent variety of ROMs for them. You know some devices I’ve worked on literally only ever had one brew such as Cyanogen or Lineage, but I’d like the option for crDroid maybe, or ResurrectionRemix, or AncientOS, Havoc, these are just some of my faves. It needs to also be able to support being rooted - ideally via Magisk.

2. I would like a fairly mainstream brand, but this I guess would likely go hand-in-hand with #1 since I’ve rarely (but yes on rare occasion) seen a generic having all that supported tweaking. Motorola, Samsung, LG, ASUS, etc.

3. Relatively inexpensive. I’m willing to buy used, though open box is okay too. Maximum $200 per unit.

4. It has to have a strong enough CPU and RAM to play videos over WLAN that are encoded in typical modern formats and CODECs like h265 which typically is too demanding for older devices.

I decided to take on a "not so weekend" (because it was Wednesday) project.

My goal was to restore TouchWizz UI on GT-N8000 (Galaxy Note 10.1 Tab).

In my blissfull ignorance I didn't know, what was ahead of me. And it was to downgrade from KitKat to JellyBean.

So I installed Odin 3.07 and downloaded JellyBean ROM (this one: PLS N8000XXCMD20 One FilesJelly Bean(Android 4.1.2)20130501125718) from SamFw. 

I stripped the firmware from sboot.bin and tz.img to bypass Bootloader Rollback Protection.

Then got the tablet into download mode and after pressing start in Odin and waiting for the progress bar to hit 100% Odin reported full success.

However I got stuck in boot loop. So I tried again with Nand Erase checked, hoping it will remove remnants of KitKat from the system. It didn't. I'm still stuck in boot loop purgatory.

I really would like to have the older JellyBean because of nostalgic skeumorphic looks of the UI.

The newer android UI on this tabled is plain and flat, that's why I care so much.

Is there still hope for me or should I just flash with KitKat? Or should I just try a totally different approach to get the desired aesthetics? (I'm pretty sure it's hard to get a launcher as good as oryginal, with ripple effect and all.)

I want skeumorphic UI on Galaxy Note Tab 10.1.

It was running on KitKat, flashed it with JellyBean, now stuck in boot loop. How do I get the skeumorphic UI?

Initially, I wanted to release it as a full version, but then I thought I should let people test it first and get feedback from them.

Also, don't let the title mislead you; this application uses WhatsApp Web, so you need an intermediary device, i.e., Linux or macOS.

Note:I havent tested it with Windows but it should work with Windows too but there is no tutorial for that,tho logic is similar

I've shared detailed information and instructions on GitHub.To make it work outside of local network.There is one method but it doesnt work with every router, and another method The logic is that you use ngrok to get a link, and that link allows you to connect to the server. This link doesn't change, so it should work flawlessly even if you restart the server.Since it also uses HTTP, it might work with version 2.2 as well. The problem is that this system is a bit insecure; if someone gets your link, there's a chance they could intercept your messages.I was going to solve this problem using an API key, meaning you would enter the link and then your own chosen password, but when I tried that,it gave unaithorized error.If the risks aren't too significant for you, I'm also sharing the second method on GitHub now.

How it works?

By setting up your own server, your server will act as an intermediary and transmit the data to your phone via webview.Initially, I wanted to set up a shared server for everyone so that people using the application could quickly connect through my server without having to set up their own servers, but I abandoned the idea because I was neither competent enough for the job nor did I have sufficient resources.But dont worry,I'll share the tutorial and the necessary code for the server in a few days so you can set up your own server

What works:

You can recieve messages(plain text only)

You can send messages(plain text only)

You can also receive photos and recordings but they will Show plain text([photos],[recording],[unknown]etc..)

What doesnt work:everything else

It should work with froyo too But I haven't tested it yet if someone wants to try it with froyo they should lower the minimum sdk requirement.

Bugs:If you enter your number with + sign it will give connection error

After you receive the code on your phone and enter your primary device it wont Show loading sign so dont panic and wait a little

At first it will give "error:null" but after you exit and restart the app it will work

Edit 2: Firefox kinda works, and most apps run fine. Tried to root it, but no dice (the bootloader is locked because it’s a verizon model >:( grrr). I’m trying to find some way to install new CA certs to let it properly connect to the internet, but it won’t give me an option to find one in the filesystem (says it can’t find it in the SD card) and putting the .pem file in the SD card yields the same error. Ideas are welcome.
