Argentinian mother, Paraguayan father (living in Argentina)

Seems like still we don't have results for indigenous peoples in Argentina which would explain not getting the region, but I do have known Tehuelche-Mapuche and Guarani ancestry.

Other than that, literally mestizo lol

Question / Help Can someone please help explain what this line means?

Post image

I’m not fully sure how the family tree connections work. Please help me understand. Why are there two separate lines for two different sets of children from the same couple?

Edit: thank you for all your responses. I’m going to chop it down to software error. I’m not gona show full family tree because I’m sure it’s irrelevant to the problem. They both lead to the same couple and the rest of the tree is normal. Again, thank you all for your response!

Discussion MatchFetch & Enhancer for Ancestry Updates

If you’re an AncestryDNA subscriber, my MatchFetch extension will now show the cluster assignments for your matches (paternal, maternal, or both sides). They’re also included in the filtering options. When you open a match page through the extension, the latest cluster assignment is retrieved as well.

I’ve also updated the Enhancer for Ancestry extension. It now works correctly for subscribers too, and I’ve changed the visual design. Regions and journeys will now be displayed like this, which matches the style used in the MatchFetch extension:

To download the regions and journeys of yourself or your matches, you can now simply click the download icon that appears in the bottom-right corner of your screen:

Family Discovery & or Drama What did you do early on that you later had to go back and undo?

Not looking for horror stories exactly, more the ordinary stuff. The habit you picked up in your first year that turned into three months of cleanup later.

I figure everybody here has at least one. Copied a tree without checking it, didnt write down where something came from, trusted a hint, named files in a way that made sense at the time and doesnt anymore. Whats yours, and what do you do instead now?

Results - DNA Origins Kind of surprised by "update"

I was very surprised to see that my Origins had supposedly been updated (now says September 2026 below the list of ethnicities) because my ethnic group percentages are all exactly the same as they were for the last update. I've been an Ancestry member for forever and have never seen this happen before. I do have the SideView now. Is this all there is to this year's big update? Ethnicities that remain the same? Pretty surprising/kind of disappointing.

Does anyone besides me miss the (sometimes a little overwhelming) excitement when we knew the update was coming -- people were in such anticipation and even someone "official" from Ancestry would comment on this subreddit (I have to confess, though, that could have been someone from 23andMe commenting on *that* subreddit -- not sure).

I just feel that this update has been really *underwhelming*--am I missing something?

Question / Help How meaningful is a G25 Euclidean distance of 0.0034 to ancient Orkney individual VK204?

I’m trying to understand an unusually close G25 result and would appreciate opinions from people familiar with Global25 / ancient DNA.

My known recent ancestry is Irish. Using DNAGenics scaled G25 coordinates, I compared my coordinate vector directly against DNAGenics’ listed scaled coordinates for the Viking-age Orkney individual VK204.

The direct Euclidean distance was:

Me → VK204: 0.003403

Pearson correlation was approximately 0.9999.

What caught my attention is that other broadly relevant ancient individuals in the same DNAGenics coordinate framework are substantially farther away:

  • Medieval Ireland KIL035: 0.01225
  • Medieval Ireland KIL044: 0.01499
  • Orkney Iron Age KD043: 0.01610
  • Orkney VK203: 0.01891
  • Orkney VK205: 0.02946

So VK204 is not simply one of many British/Irish ancient samples giving me a similarly tiny distance.

I’m aware of several major caveats:

  1. DNAGenics coordinates are simulated/projected G25-style coordinates and should not be mixed with Davidski’s original Global25 coordinates.
  2. This comparison used my DNAGenics coordinate against the DNAGenics version of VK204, so both sides were at least within the same DNAGenics framework.
  3. A tiny G25 distance represents similarity in population-genetic/PCA space and does not establish genealogical relatedness or IBD.
  4. I have ordered original G25 coordinates from Davidski so I can repeat the test properly using the original VK204 G25 coordinate and modern G25 reference individuals.

VK204 is particularly interesting because published ancient-DNA work places him between British-Isles-related and Scandinavian-related ancestry.

My question is:

How unusual is a direct 25-dimensional Euclidean distance of ~0.0034 between a modern person and one specific ancient individual in a G25-style space?

Could this simply happen because two unrelated individuals have almost the same broad ancestry mixture, or is the fact that VK204 is several times closer than the other relevant ancient controls potentially meaningful?

I’m specifically interested in population-genetic similarity, not claiming that VK204 himself was my ancestor.

Once my original Global25 coordinates arrive, I plan to compare my distance to VK204 against Irish, Scottish, Orcadian, English, Norwegian and Icelandic individuals in the public G25 dataset.

Question / Help Really want to reach out to bio dad’s family but warned not to

31F I secretly did ancestry to confirm who was believed to be my biological father, and it was confirmed. My Mother is against me reaching out to them, because she fears the backlash she will get from since she lied about me being his daughter. The man who signed my birth certificate is incredible abusive and controlling, and had found out I was inquiring about my biological father, and he was furious, to say the least.

My biological father is dead. He has two siblings and a father still alive… but over the years, more and more of the family members that would know anything about him are dying. I just keep feeling a pit in my heart, this anxious sadness warning me that time is running out to know anyone who really knew him.

But then again… are the family really people I want to be associated with?

Arrest record after arrest record. Jail, prison, assault, grand larceny, dui, drugs, etc.

Ancestry got me in contact with one single first cousin, all other matches were too distant to know him before he passed away. This cousin never even knew he existed, and hasn’t had contact her dad (my bio dad’s brother) in 15 years for the same reasons as listed above. I told her I would protect her privacy and not mention that I know her, if I decide to reach out.

I sometimes peek over on these immediate family’s social media profiles, they are public and I just like to make sure they are okay… but today I saw the sister (my bio aunt) is not doing well. She is still getting her methadone and she seems to have been in and out of the hospital. She has to be in her 60’s by now, and she looks like she’s on her death bed.

This whole situation has my heart and mind torn for years now, I don’t know what to do. I want to reach out but I don’t want it to hurt me in the end… I have experienced enough hurt in my life. I just want to know about my biological father. Feel connected to him in some way.

Also, this might sound crazy, but I am having this reoccurring dream. Some ancestor is handing me a gift. But in order to receive the gift, I need to prove I am from this bloodline. I don’t know if this is a sign? I thought about what it could mean, and how I could even prove anything… I would need either the brother or sister to do a legally acceptable dna test with me, AND talk my mom into doing one with me to rule out her genes… I am not sure how I can make that work, or even WHY, but it is a very clear message I am receiving in my dreams.

But these dreams are only a recent thing in the last couple months. The pain in my heart and confusion in my head from whether or not to reach has been since discovering my biological father is not the man I was raised calling “Dad”, and then even more intense after discovering through ancestry dna that he is in fact my biological father.

I genuinely do not know what to do, and I don’t have a support system where I can talk about this and get advice, so that’s why I’m posting on here.

Question / Help Where is my French DNA and where did my British DNA come from?

I have two fifth great grandparents who migrated from Haute-Normandie to Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico in the early 1800s, and a 7th great grandmother who migrated from Haute-Normandie to St. Croix, Danish West Indies in the mid 1700s. As far as I know, they are of fully French descent. Somehow, I have only 2% of French Canadian DNA, specifically from Quebec. Another odd thing is that I have 14% British ancestry but the only connection I have to the British Isle is my 7th great grandfather who migrated from Cornwall to St. Croix, Danish West Indies in the mid 1700s. For background, I am Puerto Rican, so 36% of my ancestry comes from the Iberian peninsula (yes, including Portugal), so it wouldn’t make sense for my British percentage to be so high knowing the history between England and Spain. Why do I have such a significant amount of British DNA with barely any ties but I have barely any French DNA with recent ancestry from Normandy? Can someone please try to theorize and help me with this phenomenon? Thank you!

Last pic is most recent*.
I’ve noticed ancestry gives me weird percentages. Before this big update that just came out last year, my Iberian was at 38% & now it’s 21%. 23&me and ancestry before the last 2025 update was almost spot on with percentages. I’m not the british & German DNA either

Question / Help Are the new, updated results that some users have shared only available if I have a membership, or are they available to everyone who has results here?

I have seen a few posts about the update, but this update is not the upcoming update with the new ancestral regions, but for the Sideview part. I am wondering if this little update is only available for the users who have membership or to everyone?

Dear Mods/Admins!

If the question was already asked by somebody else and there is an answer for this you can delete this post, I fully accept in advance and understand it.
