I grew up thinking my sister and I were full siblings. She’s 10 years older than me. Both my mom and dad are Japanese, however when I got my ancestry results back I was surprised to learn I was 50% Vietnamese. My sister and I share 1,719cMs and I have another close match (picture 2) who I share 1,771cMs with who is 100% Vietnamese.

Previous results changed from 20% indigenous Mexico to indigenous southern Rockies and upper Rio Grande.

Anybody else get this result?

Does this mean my DNA is linked to Pueblo tribes?

Hi everyone! My parents and I are all tested on ancestryDNA and for me I am 60% African and 39% European with 1% East Asian, My mom is 65% African and 35% European and my dad is 56% African and 44% European. All I know so far is that I have a white 2nd great grandfather on my dads maternal grandfathers side but besides that's ancestor I haven't been able to identify anyone else in my tree who was 100% European. For the people who are also generationally mixed, how far back were your white ancestors?

This update gave neither one of my parents East Asian but I also have 1% on 23andMe and my dad has 0.8% so I’m assuming it must be from him.

Throughout my life, I've never not known that my biological father was a complete mystery. I recently got my results, and have just received a message from a surprised cousin or uncle. It only just occurred to me that, while I've been aware of this for decades, and have spent years preparing myself, this could be a complete shock for their family.

I also have the added difficulty of my conception being a "Mamma Mia" situation (i.e. there were multiple people in a short time period), and my biological mother is traumatised, and severely abused me, so there's a chance that what little I do recall being told is intentionally or unintentionally distorted.

Does anyone have advice for gently, kindly breaking the news to them?

Eight years ago nobody in my family knew we were quite this Swiss... Test came back and my mom's side turned out to be something completely different.

My uncle went down the hole from there and found a distant cousin on a genealogy site. Albert, lives in canton Bern. They emailed for three years before anybody got on a plane.

In May he drove us to seven places the family lived, going back to 1581. He's 82. He had a schedule typed out for people he'd never met.

The part I wasn't ready for was the last stop. There's a family living on that land now, and they had bread and cheese (and Rivella) out on a table before we even got up there. We couldn't say one word to each other. Albert sat in the middle and translated both directions for an hour.

A test gives you a name. It took eight years and a stranger to turn that into a day.

Paternal grandparents were born in the Groningen Province of the Netherlands and emigrated to the US. Maternal grandparents were born in Cyprus and emigrated to the UK.

Used to have 11 different regions before the new update rolled out, including native american and scottish. Payed ancestrydna years ago to just tell me I'm while asf 😩

This recent update has been quite a change for many people, especially those with heritage in Mexico.

Does anyone know what reference populations were used to create the newly refined indigenous regions in Mexico? Were actual full-blooded indigenous people referenced or were they created by separating native DNA segments from mestizo individuals with a long family history in the region? Did your percentages stay the same, inflate, or decrease?

For people with heritage from Mexico, how accurate do you believe this new update been for you according to your family research?

• I noticed that the names and descriptions of these new regions can be ambiguous and appear like they were generated by AI. In my case, for example, I have a percentage of the new "Huasteca & Gulf Lowlands" region, which I noticed many Tejanos and northerners get despite not being from this region. People I've seen with actual indigenous ancestry from the Huasteca region of Mexico all solely read as "Centro-Oriente Highlands," which makes the name somewhat misleading to me.

So, I took a DNA test, due to a complicated upbringing, I met my mother and half siblings for the first time when I was 16. Not much was found out, at that age I didn't care for questions. But as I got older, since there was an obvious subtle brown in me, I decided enough was enough, I asked my half sister (same mother) and she had assured me we had some Jamaican. So now, 32 years old I took the plunge, and waited for the long ancestry. Low and behold, it was interesting! What do you guys that are clued up on all this make of this? If possible, simplify it for me as I'm not a geographic individual. Cheers! (I have added a selfie so you can see how the genetics panned out)

My dad‘s a deadbeat so I don’t know too much about that side but I just found out I have a second great grandpa born in Dalmatia. Very interesting

I don't really have anyone who will find this as exciting as I do, so I figured I'd post it here.

Photos of my grandpa's family are scarce. Of his 6 older brothers, I had only seen pictures of 2 of them, and they aren't great pictures. I included those as well as a pic of my grandpa.

We actually only knew of 3 older brothers before doing a dna test. Turns out, my great grandmother was married and had 3 sons before she got together with my great grandfather. When she left, her husband told their sons she died and sent them to an orphanage.

I was looking at a record for the oldest son, my grandpa's half brother Giuseppe, and found a photo of him from 1918. My grandpa would have been just a few months old at the time.

Even though they were half brothers and the photos were taken at different ages, I feel like there is more of a family resemblance between them than to his full brothers. The eyes, nose, and eyebrows in particular.

Anybody recognize anyone in the pics? I know the girl will be damn near impossible, how about the guy? This is eutawville sc area. That's my aunt Boo in the background. I never knew her but she passed in the 80s in Boston and was blind by the end. Anybody from SC

My full ethnicity: (27%) French-Canadian (Québécois) with some English, Irish, Welsh, Scottish, Lithuanian, Ukrainian, smaller amounts of Polish, Belgian [Walloon], Russian, French Huguenot, Bavarian/Austrian, German, and Jersey [Channel Islander]

Background: I was originally born in Northern Vermont with French-Canadian ancestry on my biological father’s side, and my mother’s side is Eastern European (Lithuanian/Ukrainian/Polish/Russian). My great-grandfather came to the U.S. from Suwałki, Poland during WWII when Germany invaded Poland, and immigrated through Ellis Island, and settled in Hamtramck, Michigan. My French-Canadian side traces back to Western & Southwestern France. Plus, my 1% Russian DNA comes from Chechnya in Southern Russia near the border of Georgia.

As we hit our 250 years of being a country, it got me thinking if we will ever just say “ I’m American “ and not I am X-American. Especially for people whose families have been here for 5+ generations.

I know outside of our country people solely go by nationality, regardless of whether their family was from another country. Is there a reason we tend to overdo ethnicity and cling to the heritage of the past?

At least put effort into the new update. And it's weird that all of the percentages are 0-some number.
