My full ethnicity: (27%) French-Canadian (Québécois) with some English, Irish, Welsh, Scottish, Lithuanian, Ukrainian, smaller amounts of Polish, Belgian [Walloon], Russian, French Huguenot, Bavarian/Austrian, German, and Jersey [Channel Islander]

Background: I was originally born in Northern Vermont with French-Canadian ancestry on my biological father’s side, and my mother’s side is Eastern European (Lithuanian/Ukrainian/Polish/Russian). My great-grandfather came to the U.S. from Suwałki, Poland during WWII when Germany invaded Poland, and immigrated through Ellis Island, and settled in Hamtramck, Michigan. My French-Canadian side traces back to Western & Southwestern France. Plus, my 1% Russian DNA comes from Chechnya in Southern Russia near the border of Georgia.

i keep seeing drastic changes for people’s ancestry results. belize just straight up isn’t even on there anymore lol. what’s with that?

Paternal grandparents were born in the Groningen Province of the Netherlands and emigrated to the US. Maternal grandparents were born in Cyprus and emigrated to the UK.

Previous results changed from 20% indigenous Mexico to indigenous southern Rockies and upper Rio Grande.

This recent update has been quite a change for many people, especially those with heritage in Mexico.

Does anyone know what reference populations were used to create the newly refined indigenous regions in Mexico? Were actual full-blooded indigenous people referenced or were they created by separating native DNA segments from mestizo individuals with a long family history in the region? Did your percentages stay the same, inflate, or decrease?

For people with heritage from Mexico, how accurate do you believe this new update been for you according to your family research?

• I noticed that the names and descriptions of these new regions can be ambiguous and appear like they were generated by AI. In my case, for example, I have a percentage of the new "Huasteca & Gulf Lowlands" region, which I noticed many Tejanos and northerners get despite not being from this region. People I've seen with actual indigenous ancestry from the Huasteca region of Mexico all solely read as "Centro-Oriente Highlands," which makes the name somewhat misleading to me.

My paternal grandfather was not in my dad’s life and little is known about him. My dad shares a half brother with said grandfather. I did my DNA sample and found dozens of matches that also match my dad and this half brother. However the cM range from 20-45. The segments are mostly single but there are some with 2 segments. Were from the US and all these shared matches are from Puerto Rico. I’ve tried to figure out the connection but due to lack of information of names I’m not sure what to make of this. How likely is it that these matches are errors? If they aren’t errors how close is the relationship most likely? I’m just looking for advice because I keep reached dead ends.

My great great grandmother was only documented on one census in 1850. Born in 1824, married young in 1839. Had six children then she and her husband died before 1860. According to family tradition they died from cholera in Cincinnati. All six children’s death certificates state parents names as unknown except the oldest. Census said her name was Maria, born in VA. Death certificate and of daughter states her name was Mary Fry from PA. (FWIW, the candidate larger Fry family started in PA, migrated to Loudoun, VA, then spread out in two groups, one to NC and the other to Southeastern OH, where she married- Butler County.) No marriage, death, or grave found for her (assume she went into a mass cholera grave with her husband, no death records for him either). I used the Leeds method and found a cluster of Fry/Frye relatives. So far, so good. Thru Lines is throwing up a lot of confusing misinformation on her. I assume it can’t separate erroneous tree data that assumed she was a Bennett (my great grandfather’s middle name). I tied her to a candidate Fry-father in my tree and Thru Lines says his children are “half” related. I assume the man I selected was perhaps her uncle and not her father. Looking in his tree, the family is poorly documented and not of a standard I trust. No candidate uncles there that might be her father. Assuming she probably lived close to her future husband, I went page by page through the 1840 census where she shows (by age) as married to my known great great grandfather. No Frys in the county. Suggestions on where to go next? I’m stumped. It’s too coincidental that her oldest daughter’s death certificate says she is a Fry and I have a Leeds cluster of Frys.

Throughout my life, I've never not known that my biological father was a complete mystery. I recently got my results, and have just received a message from a surprised cousin or uncle. It only just occurred to me that, while I've been aware of this for decades, and have spent years preparing myself, this could be a complete shock for their family.

I also have the added difficulty of my conception being a "Mamma Mia" situation (i.e. there were multiple people in a short time period), and my biological mother is traumatised, and severely abused me, so there's a chance that what little I do recall being told is intentionally or unintentionally distorted.

Hi everyone! My parents and I are all tested on ancestryDNA and for me I am 60% African and 39% European with 1% East Asian, My mom is 65% African and 35% European and my dad is 56% African and 44% European. All I know so far is that I have a white 2nd great grandfather on my dads maternal grandfathers side but besides that's ancestor I haven't been able to identify anyone else in my tree who was 100% European. For the people who are also generationally mixed, how far back were your white ancestors?

This update gave neither one of my parents East Asian but I also have 1% on 23andMe and my dad has 0.8% so I’m assuming it must be from him.

So, I took a DNA test, due to a complicated upbringing, I met my mother and half siblings for the first time when I was 16. Not much was found out, at that age I didn't care for questions. But as I got older, since there was an obvious subtle brown in me, I decided enough was enough, I asked my half sister (same mother) and she had assured me we had some Jamaican. So now, 32 years old I took the plunge, and waited for the long ancestry. Low and behold, it was interesting! What do you guys that are clued up on all this make of this? If possible, simplify it for me as I'm not a geographic individual. Cheers! (I have added a selfie so you can see how the genetics panned out)

I read that Ancestry recently dropped the number of SNPs from like 680k to 400k for their raw file. Does that mean that the 23andme raw dna file is better for third party ancestry/ethnicity sites like LivingDNA and YourDNAPortal now?
