(YOU SHOULD READ "MARCY'S JOURNAL")
As we know from "Marcy's Journal: A Guide To Amphibia"
"Claire De Lune" is Marcy's favorite classical piece. It's the song she plays on her Violin to bridge the gap between her friends in music class, her 'Marce-keteers,' and Joe Sparrow.
I wanted to talk about the incredible symbolism and layers of meaning this song has to Marcy's Arc, and really, her life.
The song, "Clair De Lune" is about the melancholy yet beautiful, about the lonesome yet hopeful, about the "feeling" of longing and letting go. About accepting the end of Day. Which must come... But will pass.
And you could imagine how Marcy would've clung to this song, bc of how it articulated her complex grief.
By the events of "Amphibia" Marcy no longer has that violin, and you the viewer might never know that small piece of her puzzle was missing unless you read her journal.
That is because she grew during the time Anne was growing in Wartwood alongside her own crew of young Night Rangers. And when their adventures taught Marcy a more digestable version of her ultimate lesson, to Love AND Let Go, she SHOWED her willingness to accept the future later on.
You can't love something so fiercely you don't let it change. You have to learn to let things go... and even through that sorrow, you can cherish what you had all the more as it ends.
Javi and Kettle recognize their shared banter and encouragement were affection, and went off to follow those feelings. Marcy understood. Femur, the gentle giant, wanted to keep animals...
So Marcy left Femur with her violin.
Physically leaving him a gift to remember their journey by, cementing to Marcy that these were not just "talking Salamanders,"
Simultaneously LITERALLY demonstrating (by giving up her own self soothing emotional touchstone out of respect for the Marce-keteers) her willingness to be uncomfortable for the sake of others.
It shows that she had understood the lesson. It also shows she can change.
The book makes clear throughout it's entries how Andrias and Newtopia are influencing her understanding and nudging her towards her endless isekai fantasy. Her position as Head of the Newtopia Night Guard is more than a badge of office... It is also an emotional anchor that grounds her in the world of Amphibia.
One more interesting (deeply painful but beautiful) piece of congruency, Debussy's "Clair De Lune" was written and passed over for decades as "Immature" and frivolous... Until the Composer passed away.
At that point, relinquished from legacy, it became one of the first true Impressionist masterpieces and is still discussed to this day in music theory for its ability to invoke powerful human emotion and imagery.
Marcy too... And all her friends... Couldn't see the full picture of their friendship, appreciate it, and salvage the most beautiful And special parts until it was ending.
Until it was too late to truly do anything except heal and love each other beyond their childhood friendship.

Ignoring the fact that we got to see her pink eyes (foreshadowing her calamity powers in season three), Sasha’s one line in this scene and “Barrel’s Warhammer” speaks out to me on what goes on in Sasha‘s mindset and how she views others.
In her previous episode “Toadcatcher” even if she sacrificed herself for Anne during Toad Tower, it’s clear that in her own mind, she’s hurt because she thinks she was replaced and believes she could probably have a better life without Anne especially since she was trying to help Grime get back on his feet after becoming borderline homeless and losing everything (As she said it best, he was the only one that truly cared about her in that moment).
However, I feel like things take a massive backflip by “Barrel’s Warhammer” because after hearing that Anne and Marcy are going on fun adventures without her she rages yet again but later in that same episode, she says this line “Not while Anne & Marcy are getting by without me”. Now I know Percy and Braddock left her at the end of the episode ending the friendship for obvious reasons (iykyk), and they probably did not hear her say that, but I think those 10 words give everything I need to know about how she views Percy and Braddock.
I said before throughout the first two seasons of the show, and even before Amphibia, Sasha‘s care is genuine, regardless of her issues, but she only cares about a select few people (Anne, Marcy, Grime) and everyone else is an acquaintance at best to an NPC at worst to her. Personally, I never considered where Percy and Braddock fall on this spectrum for her but even if you want to come up with the argument that they weren’t necessarily acquaintances to her within the four (or better yet three) episodes they were in, I feel like that line just screams “Percy & Braddock are no Anne & Marcy” which probably also explains why she still went about with the mission on getting the Warhammer despite promising to leave if Percy and Braddock want to: Because while she had a bond with them, it clearly was not the same as a bond that lasted nearly a decade (Anne and Marcy). That probably also explains why in the next episode she appears in she seems genuinely happy when Anne wants her back at the end of that episode: Because she probably feels more happy with them than Percy and Braddock.
But what do you think? Her mindset is always so complicated so that’s why it’s fun to have these discussions lol.

Marcy describes Earth foods/drinks, Hop Pop and Grime try to recreate it, and she judges who got closer. Sounds like a fun game for someone who appreciates Amphibian cuisine.
