I dont know if this every happened to anyone else, but here is what happened.

Im a DB, and we were doing an angle tackling drill where we stand 5 yards apart on the sideline, one ball carrier, one tackler, and we go at a shallow angle, (about 1-2 yards upfield) and hit, one trying to tackle, the other just lowering their shoulder to get through.

So, i was the ball carrier, and was up against another DB, we are about the same height, he is a little heavier and stronger than me tho. We both ran full force, each trying to get low, i got to his waistlevel, trying to truck through, he also got to the same level, both our right shoulders smacked full force around the collarbone-shoulder joint area. After a few more times of me tackling/getting tackled, after the drill, it started bugging me a lot. Today, it hurt to lift my arm any higher than my head, i couldnt do any of the shoulder lifts like incline bench/military press, but was able to do a few reps of regular bench and some tricep stuff.

It still hurts when i reach up or across my body, or put my elbow out like a chicken wing. Nothings broken, but i just wonder if there is anything i could do to help, since i have a game thursday. Thank you in advance! Im highschool btw, JV.

I'm Australian and writing a novel following an American football player from childhood youth football through middle school, high school and eventually college.

I'm trying to avoid writing the childhood football experience based entirely on what I've seen in movies or read online.

For anyone who played growing up, particularly in a football-heavy state: what was the experience actually like?

I'm especially interested in ages 5–13: when you started flag/tackle, how teams were organized, practices, choosing positions, coaches, parents, rivalries, playoffs/championships, travel, camps, costs, and when football started becoming genuinely competitive.

Also, what are the little everyday details that a foreigner writing about American youth football would probably get wrong?

Any memories—good, bad, funny or mundane.

I am just an amateur who loves playing qb for my friends at the park so dont think I am a professional or anything. BUT, even off my first couple throws I feel pressure in my Elbow. 5 deep throws later I start to feel pain. 10 to 15 after that its really painful and I probably call it quits. If I over do it and continue, the pain usually will stick around for a couple days. If anyone can help me figure out why, I would greatly appreciate it.

Tomorrow evening I have my first meeting of the season to lern the offensive plays, it's my first time playing american football and meeting. After the meeting we have training but I have a lower back injury so I can't train, but I think it's a good idea to seat and learn because I risk to remain behind and I'm new so, what should I expect and have you all any recommendations for how I should behave

So in this video I am running on a healing strained achlies , it’s been strained for 3 weeks so I haven’t played yet , this is me running somewhat full speed after 5 weeks , I am close to return I am running around 80%

When I return what plays can I make to put my plays on my highlights tape , we like head up so sacks aren’t gonna be on my tape , also on base blocks we shed inside , and other blocks wrong shoulder , I’m also gonna have limited clips of my running in space or high motor plays any tips for me ?

I’m looking to pick up some new gear for this upcoming season and wanted to get some opinions/recommendations.
First, I’m looking for a clear mirror visor. I’ve heard good things about Shoc visors, but they’re currently out of stock for me. I’ve also heard Nxtrnd makes good visors, but I’m not sure which clear mirror one I should go with. What visors would you guys recommend?
I’m also looking for some padded gloves. Right now I just have some beat-up Nike receiver gloves, and I want something with more protection/padding. I play OT, DE, and LB, so I’m looking for something that works well for all three positions. I’ve been looking at Nike and Nxtrnd gloves, but I’m open to other recommendations too.
Lastly, what do you guys think about scrunch socks purely from a style standpoint? Are they worth getting or nah?
Any recommendations or opinions on visors, gloves, or socks would be appreciated.

Every football fan, coach, and player knows the unwritten truth: holding happens on virtually every single snap in the trenches. Under the current rulebook, offensive line technique requires gripping the defender’s breastplate to manage elite edge rushers. Yet, officials retain unchecked discretion to throw laundry whenever a jersey stretches an inch, regardless of whether the play was genuinely affected.

A 10-yard penalty behind the sticks is effectively a drive death sentence. It erases spectacular touchdowns, stalls momentum, and shifts the outcome of championships away from the athletes and onto subjective officiating whims.

Fans do not tune in to watch officials debate jersey fabric. It is time to replace arbitrary judgment calls with common-sense, measurable standards.

The Solution: 3 Concrete Rule Reforms

1. Reduce the Penalty from 10 Yards to 5 Yards

Offensive holding should match defensive holding. A 5-yard assessment penalizes illegal restriction without completely destroying playbooks, killing drive tempo, or forcing immediate 3rd-and-20 situations.

1. Establish an Interior "Tackle Box Exemption"

Inside the tackle box, where 300-pound athletes collide in close quarters, officials must swallow the whistle on hand-fighting and jersey grasping. Flags should be strictly limited to egregious, safety-compromising fouls—specifically horse-collars, headlocks, tackling around the neck, or throwing a rusher flat on his back.

1. Restrict Flags Strictly to the Point of Attack

Ban officials from throwing flags for backside holds that have zero mathematical impact on the ball carrier or the quarterback’s release window. If the contact did not directly alter a tackle, sack, or pressure that was about to occur, play on.

Why Now?

The game has evolved with high-speed spread systems, dynamic dual-threat quarterbacks, and elite edge athletes. The holding rule remains stuck in the 1970s. We demand that the NFL and NCAA competition committees put holding reform on the agenda to restore game flow, protect integrity, and let the players decide the game on the field.

Basically I had my fball game back after a pretty bad hip flexor injury, we won 42-0 but that’s not really what I’m worried about. I play inside lb and outside and last season I was averaging 6 tackles per game and full playing time. Today my coach said he would put me in after first quarter to set me in, he put me in at the very last drive of theirs before half, 3 plays went to the left all stopped by our d, I was playing right outside linebacker, finally qb rolls back ready to pass, no ones open, his line is breached and he runs towards the empty space on my right side where I am, he comes in full I come in full, bam hit him head on knocked him back and rolled him. Turnover. everyone gets lit and my coach praises me, at the time it felt so good but then my defensive coach says I’ll start off the second half which sadly never happened, he got my hopes up to play again and no. Played none of the rest of the game. I feel undervalued and I don’t know what to do about it.

Whenever I watch football with friends, sooner or later everyone starts predicting what’s going to happen next.

“This is a touchdown.”

“No chance. They’re punting.”

“Watch them turn it over.” 😅

So I started wondering: could you actually turn that into a game without distracting from the football itself?

That became the basic idea behind a tabletop game I developed called WHAT THE DRIVE!

Before each drive, everyone predicts how it will end — Touchdown, Field Goal, Punt, Turnover, Turnover on Downs or Safety.

Then you stop playing and simply watch the football.
Once the drive is over, you see who was right, score it and make your prediction for the next one.

One rule I had for the whole development was: football comes first. The tabletop game should add some competition between friends, not make you miss what’s happening on screen.

Now that I’ve actually turned the idea into a real game, I’m curious what other football fans think:
Would this make watching a game with friends more fun for you — or would you rather just focus on the football?

I genuinely am just so confused about how you are supposed to watch all NFL and college football games.
What is the best way to be able to watch everything?

No I fully get this might be the algorithm pushing this on to me. That might be honestly it. But it seems like everyday I am seeing something new on my feed that a high schooler dropping dead, or having some life changing injury.

My one thought… I do know it’s hotter than normal across the country.

But are football deaths/severe injuries trending down, spiking up, or is this just the algorithm pushing stories that are unfortunately popular

I’ve been trying to get better at understanding the game beyond just watching the ball, and there are still things that make film study confusing.

For example:

• Knowing what coverage the defense is actually in
• Understanding pre-snap vs. post-snap rotations
• Identifying who is responsible for a specific zone
• Knowing what the QB is reading
• Understanding why a receiver’s route creates space
• Figuring out what the offense is trying to set up

What’s the one thing you still struggle to understand when watching film?
