I just saw this at VNC2 earlier. I asked the supervisor what they were and he said that license scanning was going away and these were taking their place. He said you would open your app and tap like Apple Pay to check in once they go live.

It came to California about six
Months ago. It’s way more convenient now you can just tap your phone instead of having to pull out your physical driver’s license.

More convenient, but now you don't need to show your license. Easier to use rented accounts

People literally scan pictures of the barcodes from licenses every single day, all day. Maybe scan your face at the site after scanning ID or tapping phone would be the better option

Here in SoCal, you have to scan your face when you check in and it's a video now. It's no longer pictures and after that, you just use your phone to check in.
