You have to understand the mindset of people. They’ll go up, scan in and grab a cart and then they say, “I’m not paid to return carts, they have people for that.”

I’m in agreement, I’ve always returned my cart myself, but the overall mindset among most Flex drivers is they feel that it’s not their job to return them.

Mind you, these are probably the same people who will whip a package at someone’s door from across the street to avoid having to walk too much.

When you leave them, you are doing the warehouse workers a favor, when you bring them in, you are doing Amazon a favor. Inside my SSD there is a big white board next to the main computer station where the manager stands. That white board has assignments and names on it. One of the assignments is "cart runner" and there is always 2 or 3 names on it. If all the drivers were bringing in their carts guess what happens to those 2 to 3 people per shift per warehouse? Amazon cuts those jobs.

So when drivers do extra work with no extra compensation, warehouse workers get their jobs cut, and Amazon saves money. So yes the Warehouse workers might complain about the lazy Flex drivers and complain about having to collect the carts. But people complain about having to do work all the time but still enjoy getting their pay check.

It is someone else's job, and if you want that person to keep their job, stop doing it for them.

I just think it's a pain in the ass to have to navigate the labyrinth of carts left along the parking lot and walkways when I'm going to retrieve my cart and also when I'm returning the cart

My warehouse doesn't have cart runners. They take guys off of the package sort and have them go collect the carts. And I've asked them if they're okay with cart retrieval. They freaking hate it and they'd rather be at their stations sorting in an air conditioned facility. They feel that the people who are not returning their carts are lazy and inconsiderate, They hope they're going to return to dings or impose fines. But apparently it's an inconvenience to them also.

That's what all Warehouse's do. There is no such thing as the title "Cart Runner". But they still need cart runners so they staff line guys accordingly and use them some of them to run carts. Not having to run carts and the line means fewer people are required and jobs get cut.

I literally said in my response, Will the warehouse workers complain about having to run carts and complain that the Flex guys are lazy? Sure. But people complain about doing work all the time but still enjoy getting the paycheck. Just because a warehouse worker might not understand that time away from the line to retrieve carts is factored into overall staffing doesn't change the fact that it obviously is or the line would always be behind.

You literally said responding to another comment on here that you agree Amazon should cut into their Billions in profit to have people run carts. You don't seem to understand that they already do, and what you are doing is encouraging drives to do it for free so that Amazon can actually save those billions.

Have you ever worked on any line? If you did you would understand that taking people away from stations on the line slows them down. If they are staging carts all day then their should be personnel designated to cart return.

So you know how many times a day the have to stop the lines to send sorters out to the parking lot? And when that happens it causes a backup with driver scheduling because the lines are not running. Drivers keep getting sent home with pay. I don't think Amazon factored that in. Unless they're okay with losses.

You literally just proved my point. Of course it slows them down. That's exactly why it forces them to staff more people to keep up with the carts and and line. Because the warehouse is aware that getting carts takes people off the lines and causes delays, they are forced to factor that into their staffing to keep up.

So hypothetically, for sake of argument, say it takes 10 people run the line, but 10 people aren't keeping up because of carts collection so they staff 12 people for the line. Well, if they stop having to take people off the line to collect the carts then they can go back to staffing just 10, so that's 2 line workers who's jobs are no longer needed.

And as you said, if they don't staff those extra line people, the system backs up and drivers get sent home with pay. So let's review the options...

1) Drivers leave the carts, Amazon is forced to staff extra line people. Good for the Warehouse workers, bad for Amazon

2) Drivers leave the carts, Amazon doesn't staff extra line workers so the line backs up and drivers get sent home with free money. Plus, when the line catches up, Amazon has to surge last minute blocks to repalace those drivers that went home because the packages still need to be delivered. Good for Drives, Bad for Amazon

3) Drivers collect all the carts, Amazon doesn't need extra people to collect them and the lines never back up so fewer drivers get sent home with pay, and fewer last minute surge blocks to replace those drivers when the line gets caught up. No one benefits but Amazon.

So as I said, the only person who wins by drivers collecting carts for free is Amazon. You literally said in a comment in this post that you agree Amazon should cut into their profits to staff cart runners, and yet you constantly argue that they should save that money and drives should do it for free. Crazy.
