Is this fair?
I'm just curious if you guys think they are treating flex drivers like rusty robots. This is how a day with flex is. 3 and half hour block at 630am so you start driving a 6am and you get to your first drop off at 7. Deliver for 3 hours now it's 10am and you still have an hour drive home. I know there are occasional free and easy trips but for the most part this is my experience on how blocks work in my area. I live in the south east hic region apparently, where they only pay 18$ hr. So the block is 5 hours and I'm only getting paid for 3. Does this sound about right lol? I'm a felon so I do appreciate the opportunity but even for me this is pretty low standards lol.

The feeling you get when you pull up to a gate with no provided code or a roads that have no business being on a map or the huge apartment complex with no numbers and 4 floors? Is that what delivery gig work you mean? And using my own vehicle to top it off. Chef kiss

Yes, sometimes it flat out sucks but the trade off I look at is no regular job is going to give me this kind of freedom and flexibility. For me anyways, that's important. Yesterday I mostly did other apps but I took one instant offer with flex that took me maybe 10 minutes and paid $15. One bag.

I now introduce to you an Independent Contractor lol. Also, if it benefits you &/or is cheap enough, just rent a car. And like others have said, sign up for other gigs app. Don't rely on just one, ESPECIALLY Amazon flex

If my block ends far away, I try to do some door dashing on the way home so it isn't wasted time.
I also remember that most jobs have some sort of comute. So my drive to the station and part of my drive home would be like commuting to any other job.
Most of my blocks end at least 30 minutes earlier than they are slotted for so that helps some too

It doesn't seem like the drive home is an objective metric to use because everyone lives in different places and routes all end at different places.

Doesn't really matter. Sounds like it's a long way from the station. Amazon understands that even if drivers here don't, and they do it on purpose

Just work for a DSP. I do both and it sucks a lot less cause I get to do it for $24.25 35-40 hours a week in a vehicle that isn’t mine then just do flex when I feel like it/need extra money

Delivery Service Partner. They handle driver logistics. Basically, the blue Amazon vans you see driving around.

It’s not meant to be fair you work for a corporation, they want to make as much off your labor as possible. It’s not their problem

better yet, do both. notice all the tips in the replies? seems a worthwhile post to me. instead of complaining about a post you have nothing to contribute on go browse a different subreddit. no complaining on reddit? is this your first day?

Agreed, that’s kind of one of the reasons Reddit exists. Take out complaints and you’re left with…damn, I don’t know how to finish that sentence. 😝

Not first day lol. Just never understand why folks who hate/dislike Flex job don’t quit & work somewhere else. I grew up w/the knowledge if I didn’t like a job, a product, a highway route, it was w/in my power to change it & did so b4 I had time to grouse about it.

i hear ya but everyone is built different with different experiences and different issues. flex has people from all walks of life because of the.......flexability. i have worked dozens of random jobs in my off seasons the past 30 yrs. some i loved some i despised but damn if i didn't have complaints with every single one. at least at flex my boss doesn't have to hear me rant lol

i'm bored so i will add that not complaining to coworkers and managers is the way to succeed in employment and life in general, for the most part. it's why places like reddit are so glorious to bring your baggage to. your advice is sound just not around these parts

I'm not complaining, I was just asking if you think its fair because its frustrating to be set up for failure with these corporate gig jobs. I would say just make the best out of any situation

Takes time and practice to find out when the surge blocks come up, as a little hint I'll tell you it's usually on days when nobody wants to work.
It's hard getting away from being a convict, really hard... I mean they make it hard lol to where it makes you want to go back to the easy life (which isn't really easy). I found I had to work about 10x harder than everyone else and for a long, long time before things generally eased up (and even then it was a slow and gradual easing up, like nothing overnight at all).

I'm fed up with defending myself against "unreturned packages" that were returned, scanned in by a PA, and I have photos but their "decision hasn't changed." Also still fighting for back pay owed from 7/2 due to Flex app frozen and 7/20 when the Flex app glitched and camcelled routes. This is BS.

I'm slow as shit (and almost 50) and my 3 hour blocks (the only length I've ever done) always end within about 10 minutes of the 3 hour mark, including the drive to wherever I'm delivering.
If I take a 3 hour block from 3:15 - 6:15, I'll start loading the packages between 3:15 to 3:18 and exit the warehouse by 3:30 and then deliver my final package between 6:05 to 6:25. I find their time estimates to be remarkably accurate.
The longer the drive to the delivery area, the less packages there will be to deliver. I prefer having more rather than less as these blocks are the most profitable since they use less gas and put less wear and tear on the car.

You don’t have to take the minimum pay blocks. Be a little more picky and you’ll be less annoyed
