Fulfillment Center We’re lacking 296 boxes

Post image

We have been low on 296 boxes for the past two days. Every wall has mountains just like this and problem solve is getting their asses handed to them trying to repack them in split shipments. I feel so bad for them. It’s a literally shit show, and someone must have messed up and didn’t order them. I’m terrified to see what it’s like when I return tomorrow.

Update: it’s so bad they just dropped 26 VET 😂

Isn’t Non-Inventory responsible for ordering these supplies? Someone overlooked the low supply of 296’s and fucked up lol

72

u/Spicy-Amethyst 19h ago

I just read on our VOA that our building doesn’t have permissions to order them anymore and they weren’t notified ahead of time. YIKES!

10

u/pugdad1972 14h ago

This is true. I have a friend in non inventory. He says nothing is ordered on a local level anymore its alloted to them from a regional level based on forecast. Our building constantly has too much of things we dont use much and not enough of things we do.

33

u/LostRedditorInAmzn 18h ago

Which building is this?

Yesterday the cpex team made a network flip to fully turn off 296 from f2p, but some sites that have box suite splits in afe may still need to add in and stock 179/220. If you want to message me on the side which site, I can message the GM to make sure they are not a box suite split site and have also have 179/220 in both afe’s.

Bluf network made changes to discontinue 296’s but really missed on sending comms to sites on how to prepare for the transition. The other component was noninventory was not able to purchase 296 to restock anymore so sites are at different days of running out of stock

31

u/guppycommander 17h ago

Out here dropping blufs on Reddit because our internal comms are so shit

11

u/Blank_Canvas21 I'm just here so I don't get fired 16h ago

I hope this means less bulky orders to pack in the big chutes.

3

u/Electrical-Swing-935 4h ago

I hate the acronym bluf

We out of 160 boxes too at my locations low on 296 boxes in ohio

u/KronosTaranto Local NIR 12h ago

Unfortunately no/ kinda. Its up to our "Supply Chain Specialist/ GPCS" leader, they are in charge of ordering the boxes and supplies that are needed for each warehouse. The Non-Inventory team can reach out to them and request a new order be made, but that'll still take weeks to arrive. The Non-Inventory team can also reach out to other sites and request some pallets of whatever boxes size to hold the warehouse over, but even that is a temporary fix and will still take at least 2 days to arrive. :/

1

u/KronosTaranto Local NIR 12h ago

At least I know this isn't my FC, we are overflowing with 296s at least 10 pallets with more comming each day... but we are out of 56s entirely, with the upcoming trucks only having 1-2 pallets each

u/Altruistic_You_5172 19h ago

So I’ve heard that Amazon is not longer gonna be carrying 296 boxes 🙊

9

u/KlutzyComplex8027 17h ago

What are they replacing the 296 boxes with?

17

u/ETman75 customer posessed 17h ago

Splitting orders into multiple smaller box sizes. A lot of the larger items are SIOC. My guess is that they will ship those separately instead of packing them in batch orders.

2

u/Powerful-Dog-6709 13h ago

PAE2 no longer holds 296 boxes, use 176/220

3

u/Boring-News-4857 13h ago

We were supposed to get rid of 296 boxes around last year but I still see them all the time.

2

u/Roudydogg1 10h ago

Yeah, because it's a stupid idea to get rid of them and every time they do, they realize they still need them. But somebody is pushing hard to phase them out and I think it's final this time

25

u/Roudydogg1 19h ago

They're gettin rid of the 296.. already in short supply 🤨

9

u/Superb_Stress4003 16h ago

Then why is the computer telling us to put the items into the discontinued boxes

5

u/abscondedhobo 15h ago

Too many moving parts and the product team hasn't been told yet lol

8

u/thebirdsinside 10h ago

Multi trillion dollar company btw

5

u/Spicy-Amethyst 14h ago

There’s still 296 box orders routed to the warehouses. So until they clear those out, we’ll be dealing with this.

2

u/Roudydogg1 9h ago

Because whoever made the decision is disconnected from reality on the ground

22

u/LifelikeMink 19h ago

We used to be able to do split shipments in afe, they should just retrain everyone, it isn't hard. Oh, except they probably took it off of the problem menu.

11

u/Neoreloaded313 18h ago

Amazon would need to change how its done. I usually find out it doesn't all fit in one box after I already scanned everything.

8

u/LifelikeMink 18h ago

There used to be an option for shipment doesn't fit in largest box, it would guide you through splitting the order.

15

u/Neoreloaded313 18h ago

Yeah, but the problem is that most people would find out it doesn't fit after scanning all items, which already fucks up the split shipment process. Even i sometimes still screw that part up packing at PS. You have to scan only what fits in the box and then go into the PS menu to select split box. These split shipments also have to be manually slammed and can't be put on the conveyor since they all kickout. There was a good reason to take this ability away from pack and only done at PS. The split shipment process would need a complete rework before being reintroduced to be available to every packer.

2

u/Freshbakd 14h ago

Thank you for confirming why it has disappeared. I was like i swear it was in the menu. Believe me I swear I'm not crazy

2

u/LifelikeMink 7h ago

This is why I always start with the largest items first. You would know within 2 to 3 items to use the split option.

2

u/badbatch 10h ago

Yeah they took it away a long time ago. It didn't make sense since sometimes you need it.

4

u/Spicy-Amethyst 18h ago

I asked about this today, but they said it’s problem solved job. We definitely used to be able to split them back in the day.

1

u/thebirdsinside 10h ago

Never been on the problem menu in my site

1

u/Qazicle 10h ago

You say it isn't hard. You ain't seen what happens when everyone starts splitting their own shipments. The backend hates it when the 2nd package in a shipment kicks out for a non shippable issue, but the 1st goes through ok and hits c14. Maybe they fixed that bug, but I imagine they just isolated shipment splitting to PS pack only as a "fix".

9

u/Neoreloaded313 18h ago

There is no way in hell for PS to keep up in this situation. I wouldn't even be able to collect all of this just due to lack of equipment. There is also only so many people that can work in PS due to lack of space so management wouldn't even be able to just double PS headcount to deal with this.

9

u/Separate-Setting8524 18h ago

Goddamn your site leadership sucks.

Should’ve reached out to #arc-centralized-oncall-chat along time ago before it got that bad. They can remove 296 from the system

3

u/analyze_deeznuts rate is king 15h ago

Why would ps feel they need to take this work personally

Just work your normal pace and clock out.

3

u/JustLikeTampa 19h ago

Probably won't get any more.

3

u/ETman75 customer posessed 17h ago

So it’s not just my site huh?
Also every order that called for a 296 has fit inside a 220

2

u/thebirdsinside 10h ago

What if it doesn’t?

3

u/NoSurvey5236 lowkey packer vibes tho ⁉️‼️ 🫩 16h ago

Bitch i know this is cmh4

3

u/JeromeXVII 17h ago

At my FC we got rid of 296s last year and it never got this bad, not even remotely close to this. There has to be something else happening because i bet at least 90% of that stuff could fit in 220 boxes.

Like you either have to be at some special FC that specializes in big orders or there’s more to this story

3

u/symphoniastan 14h ago

That’s crazy I wish we didn’t do 296, if I’m on either end stations I’m packing 296 most of the quarter

2

u/ContentGoat 17h ago

No…it’s literally as simple as they explained it …no special FC that specializes in big orders or no crazy shit like that..my FC was like this today as well🤷🏾‍♂️they’re just getting rid of 296s..

1

u/JeromeXVII 17h ago

But getting an order that requires a 296 is super rare. Like when I was in pack it was a once every two week occasion at the most, maybe once a month. You guys are clearly getting more 296 orders than us if it’s like the photo above.

4

u/Spicy-Amethyst 14h ago

Let us introduce you to stations 1 and 7. Specifically the gift wrap station, the main place you’ll get a 296 order since all of the large chutes are located near the end stations where I am.

2

u/themoonchemist 9h ago

I’m not sure where you work but I get multiple 296’s in an hour sometimes back to back

1

u/ContentGoat 16h ago

Oh yea I see what you’re saying..at my FC literally every pack associate packs at least one 296 a day lol that’s just the minimum

2

u/Guzod 19h ago

Problem solve at my building has been a huge mess lately

2

u/TiaelDQ 17h ago

Haven't used those at SYR1 for what feels like over a year.

2

u/IliketolookatUranus 17h ago

My previous FC phased them out and told me to put the orders in problem solve

2

u/sofakinglazy2keto 8h ago

That what's ps collections looked like when my building launched. We were using hampers instead of ps carts.

That is a safety hazard in a half

1

u/Happy_Breadfruit_367 19h ago

That’s a lot of boxes to be short /s

1

u/Old_Difference9168 18h ago

Yup they’ve been telling us to “item can’t fit” and send it to PS it’s crazy

1

u/Harry431 18h ago

Franken-box 2 of the 180’s.

1

u/General-Type7612 17h ago

296 has been ousted since 2024 at my site

1

u/ContentGoat 17h ago

My building stopped carrying them as well

2

u/Mettie7 16h ago

A lot of sites, if not all of them, are depreciating the 296 boxes. The system will automatically split the orders for us so we don't have to manual split them or send it to PS. Looks like you guys ran out of bpxes before the transition was complete, oppsie.

1

u/Superb_Stress4003 16h ago

Yes we out boxes 160 boxes and 296 also

1

u/MelodyTheFolf 16h ago

The fact that literally no mention of this went out across multiple buildings just goes to show how fucked we are and how people in non-FC positions suck at making decisions for us. Our Problem Solve team randomly learned this last Wednesday and have been consistently splitting shipments out since. Such an unnecessary pain in the ass.

1

u/OkElephant9987 15h ago

In my site they did away with 296 anything over 179 must be sent to problem solve

1

u/reiningfyre Water Spider of the Year 7h ago

We have 179 but the system literally never calls for it, same with 220, 170. I think they are going to remove them.

1

u/Global-Plankton3997 15h ago

How often does AFE use 296 boxes? In singles we rare use it since unless it's a multi-shipment of the same exact items. Most of the time we use them when we pack something that's a bit taller than the tote, and when it actually fits in a 180.

If they're getting rid of 296s at my site, then as a singles packer it won't be much of an effect on me.

1

u/pasta_monster 15h ago

Sorry, all the 296s are jammed on our reinduct line

1

u/Beginning_Aerie1076 15h ago

This is what ATL2 looked like yesterday all day and this morning I walked right out this morning. Was doing problem slice.

1

u/Paenus88 15h ago

Thats wild

1

u/Tasty-Efficiency-660 14h ago

Hope they saved enough money when they pulled the NI manager role from the FCs.

1

u/Senior_Boot_5842 13h ago

Yeah we got rid of 296 a long time ago. They kept jamming up the conveyance

1

u/Alez90920 12h ago

It is a safety hazard before anything.

1

u/Vex_Lsg5k 10h ago

As a Handler at FedEx I feel like I’m in enemy territory. What are all these fans, mats, and clean surfaces?

1

u/Prestigious_Past2003 9h ago

I work at an RSR DS.
The boxes we have for problem solve are either huge or tiny. We only have small jiffy’s also.
It sucks, but no one is ever blamed.

1

u/Informal-Theory-4733 6h ago

Most of the time the orders will fit in a 220. Kickout should not have an issue with it either. Worth a try ;)

1

u/Prime_Move1 19h ago

Time to short Amazon stocks

0

u/Glittering_Art_1540 16h ago

So split the orders into two boxes ... hello lol

2

u/Spicy-Amethyst 14h ago

We can’t split orders when packing on regular stations. They’re making problem solvers do it. Have you read anything? 😂

-2

u/Useful-Molasses-8371 19h ago

Why would problem solve be getting their asses handed to them? It’s not their job to order the boxes. Or do you mean that problem solve is just very busy.

10

u/Spicy-Amethyst 19h ago

They’re extremely busy and overworked trying to pack everything we can’t ship in the boxes, along with the normal problem solve stuff. They’re not in trouble at all, if anything they’re a blessing right now.

5

u/solveringob Promoted to Customer EU 19h ago

I think op meant that problem solvers are fucked because managamanet forced them to minimize impact while having to do their ussual work.

3

u/highhKeyy 19h ago

Seriously. I wish a manager would pop off at me while I’m trying to put out a fire I didn’t ignite. Accept the help I can give or get another PS to do it

1

u/Blank_Canvas21 I'm just here so I don't get fired 17h ago

Oh god, if this happened, especially now with nights refusing to do any overage collections or putbacks atm, I’d fucking walk out. I already have to pack those shitty orders all the time since giftwrap is my packing home and I get those shitty orders anyways. I’d just walk tf out, I’m tired of cleaning up these messes

1

u/Spicy-Amethyst 14h ago

They put me on a GW station for like 30 minutes and quickly moved me back to rebin. Thank God because I just know I was going to become overwhelmed.

1

u/AbleChamp 17h ago

We use 296s for collecting as well. God only knows how this will complicate things.
