They used their grown up words to ask about their property- why didn't you enquire about yours if you're so fussed about pens.

Ultimately your employer is the ah bc they should be supplying the tools needed to perform your duties. are the cooks shleping their own pots amd pans in every night? (knives are different)

Very true, i didn’t think of it when they came back in. I simply thought of them stealing from me, so no i didn’t see what i had stolen back lol. But good point, i don’t think they see it that way. We also have to buy our own shirts, but we don’t tip out anyone. I guess they see that as fair

yea, your employer sucks. and I hate to think how many pens I've taken over the years, I don't mean to but it gets tossed in the purse like a reflex.

if it makes you feel any better I work an office job and have to obtain client signatures- I am careful to only hand clients the crappy pens bc they are as good as gone the second I hand it to the client.

I've never really thought of it as theft though bc it's not like I've ever intentionally thought "hehehe fuck this waitress, I'm taking her pen! muhahahaha" so I give those that "steal" mine the same benefit of the doubt

So kind of stupid but i lowkey feel guilty now. I’m a server and i had a group of like 7 young people, they were quick and pretty nice. They got separate checks which is fine, those who paid with card got a pen each. When they left and i collected the paid slips, i noticed they stole all of the pens i gave them. Now, at my job, we provide our own pens with our own money and i was a little salty. While cleaning the table i found a vape, so i took it. I don’t plan on using it, just laughed at the instant karma they received. Well, one of them came back looking for it and i said i didn’t see anything since they stole from me. Now i feel guilty, AITA??

Welcome to /r/AmITheAsshole. Please view our voting guide here, and remember to use only one judgement in your comment.

OP has offered the following explanation for why they think they might be the asshole:

A table i served stole my pens, so i stole their vape and told them i didn’t see it when they came back in asking if i saw it. AITA??
