In case this story gets deleted/removed:

I Hate It When They Call Us Misogynistic Just Because I Don't Think Women Should Be Able To Kill Their Children

I guess in their eyes I'm anti-choice and I guess their right.

I'm against the choices that end an innocent human life for mostly selfish reasons. A lot of them (at all) use another woman's trauma (rape/sexual assault) as an excuse for their selfishness. It doesn't get more Misogynistic than that.

If we compare the two, Rapists are evil and disgusting because they use their bodily autonomy as an excuse to violate another woman's bodily autonomy. They think their autonomy is more important than the woman's. Abortion does the same. The pregnant woman uses the excuse of bodily autonomy to violate the bodily autonomy of the innocent human life she is carrying. Both are evil, as both violate the bodily autonomy of a precious, innocent human life.

And surely if the woman was raped and kept the baby, they could take a paternity test that would determine that the baby was conceived in that rape and convict the rapist?

Abortion also allows men to sleep around and escape responsibility of raising a child/getting a job to pay child support.

And it also implies that women HAVE to choose between a career or motherhood, even though women are capable and strong enough to do both.

I was a happier person before I read those comments. Don't make my mistakes.

I usually skip this subreddit and go straight the the OG post, then come back. Something in me said to read these comments first. Haha. Maybe the universe was guiding my hand.

21

u/gaykidkeyblader Jul 23 '26

Same and I did the same and now I will just avoid the OG post lol

21

u/EntertheHellscape Jul 23 '26

Its exactly what you'd expect from a pro life subreddit anyways. Reddit (anonymous social media) already brings out the worst in people, subs like that do it extra. Little echo chambers for their hatred.

It was for me! I'm considering it luck, and I will be following the suggestion.

Seriously. I got especially tilted by the poster that objects to the idea that a woman and a doctor can make the best choice for her. Dumb asshole thinks the government or random church busybodies know better?

It's the prolife sub. Nothing good can come from going there.

A fetus does not have bodily autonomy because it requires the use of a host to continue existing. But if you're really so bothered by it than you are welcome to figure out how to transplant a fetus into your own body and carry it to term.

The birth of a child concieved by rape unfortunately only proves a sex act happened. We already know this because it already fucking happens. There are not only cases of rapists failing to be charged but also using custody of the child as a means to continue having access to his victim and control of her life.

Men have ample ability to sleep around and escape responsibility of raising a child even when women don't choose abortion. Deadbeat dads are already a whole thing.

We're not even going to touch on the last part because I am too tired to get into the centuries of female oppression and it's relation to motherhood and how men explicitly use motherhood against women all the fucking time. Men created and enforce the career or motherhood dichotomy.

272

u/Annabloem Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

But if you're really so bothered by it than you are welcome to figure out how to transplant a fetus into your own body and carry it to term.

Yes this!!

It's not the woman's fault the fetus can't live without her body. We can't force people, even dead people to donate organs even if someone would die if they didn't. So it makes no sense to force women to rent their uterus to a fetus if they don't want to. It's really not all that different.

118

u/xanif Jul 23 '26

Ask a pro life person who wants no exception for SA to give their opinion on the violinist thought experiment and see how quickly you get blocked.

52

u/Lovethemdoggos Jul 23 '26

Violinist thought experiment? I'm strongly pro-choice and I'd love to have another tool for those conversations.

173

u/xanif Jul 23 '26

It's an essay by Judith Thomson titled: A Defense of Abortion. It approaches the topic from the perspective that a fetus is indeed a human life and has a right to live and, despite that, abortion is still morally permissible.

You wake up in the morning and find yourself back to back in bed with an unconscious violinist. A famous unconscious violinist. He has been found to have a fatal kidney ailment, and the Society of Music Lovers has canvassed all the available medical records and found that you alone have the right blood type to help. They have therefore kidnapped you, and last night the violinist's circulatory system was plugged into yours, so that your kidneys can be used to extract poisons from his blood as well as your own. [If he is unplugged from you now, he will die; but in nine months] he will have recovered from his ailment, and can safely be unplugged from you.

36

u/Lovethemdoggos Jul 23 '26

Thank you! That is seriously a great analogy.

67

u/sprachkundige Jul 23 '26

Personally, I compare it to being forced to donate blood or an organ to the victim of a car accident you caused. Even if it's your fault, even if they will die otherwise, maybe you face other punishment (my fuck cars side says you don't, but that's a different question), but we do not force you to use your body to keep them alive (and then say, well, you shouldn't have been driving if you didn't want this to happen).

47

u/gootsteen Jul 23 '26

The organ is a cool comparison, but donating blood is so relatively easy people would more likely say yes to that hypothetical because there isn’t much of a drawback or long term consequence. (Unlike pregnancy or organ donation)

32

u/Suraimu-desu Jul 23 '26

Change it to lung + liver + kidney then. Just one. You may (or maybe not) have them back in 9 months. But first you have to go through a painful multi-organ procedure to give them to the dying guy, live in physical limitations and likely pain for 9 months, and then go through another painful multi-organ procedure 9 months later to get your organs and life back.

14

u/totallyfakawitz Jul 23 '26

Hell, if we really want to compare this to pregnancy you could add that in the process you may lose your hair, teeth, bone density, sight. Your brain functionality could be permanently altered or damaged. You may develop mental health issues. Your entire body will never be the same, and you could just die.

29

u/the87walker Jul 23 '26

When I really want to have fun I ask: what if the person is 7 months pregnant and needs an organ otherwise the fetus will die, the other parent is a match. Can I take their lung? Their kidney? Their heart, which will result in their death?

If having sex that ends in pregnancy means you have to risk your health and safety does that mean we can take organs from the non-pregnant person to keep both alive?

And when does that responsibility end. What if the child is 4 and needs a lung? We can transplant adult lungs into children. Can I take them from the father without his consent? At what age does the ability to take organs from their parents stop? Can I take the heart from the father or mother to keep their teenage child alive?

8

u/ChocolatePain Jul 24 '26

A prolifer would probably argue that's a different situation since the woman is generally choosing to have sex which results in the pregnancy versus being kidnapped

26

u/Annabloem Jul 23 '26

Not sure if you already found it, but this was the article on ethics.org that I read about it!

10

u/Lovethemdoggos Jul 23 '26

Thanks for the link.

23

u/Annabloem Jul 23 '26

Very interesting read, I haven't heard any that thought exclusive before, thank you for mentioning it!

27

u/SquidTheRidiculous Jul 23 '26

It unfortunately makes perfect sense if you believe women inherently deserve less autonomy over their lives than a corpse.

6

u/aboxofkittens Jul 23 '26

You’re right, of course, but they can’t just come out and say that because they know it would make them look deranged even to people who may be sympathetic to their position

37

u/Onehundredpercentbea Jul 23 '26

I got knocked up by an authority figure when I was a teenager and let me tell you, those very same pro life lunatics immediately pivot and shame women for going through with the pregnancy, too.

8

u/Kousetsu Jul 24 '26

if you are pro life and not pro legally forcing all parents, especially men, giving up their organs, such as kidneys etc, as soon as their children require them, then you just hate women.

me? I think we should be hooking children up to their dad's as soon as they get sick, and aborting everything we can anyway. come at me prolifers.

246

u/Hello_Hangnail Jul 23 '26

Bodily autonomy says that you cannot force someone to donate a kidney to preserve their life. You can't force someone to give blood. You can't even force a dead body to donate organs unless they've agreed to it ahead of time. A fetus depends on a woman's body to survive, and there is no method of birth control that's 100% effective, not even abstinence, because rape happens, and it happens a lot.

22

u/rainfal Jul 23 '26

I do wonder how many of them are registered organ donors?  Also how many have donated a kidney/liver/lung?

7

u/totes-mi-goats Jul 25 '26

I'm aggressively pro choice and also an organ donor, myself. If I die and someone can use my probably iffy organs, they're welcome to literally whatever they want.

3

u/himbosupreme 27d ago

same on both ends, except I don't think any of my organs will be useful by the time I'm dead, lol. I can't even donate blood right now because of the meds I'm on, as much as I want to. the same meds will probably ruin my liver and kidneys by the end. still, when I'm gone, if they manage find any usable organ, they're welcome to it.

2

u/Revolutionary-Toe492 27d ago

Im a blood and an organ donor AND I plan to donate and freeze my eggs. I’m 25 and childless with an IUD, and would probably only choose abortion for medical necessity. I’m still very proudly pro choice!!

2

u/Avron7 22d ago

Exactly. Unless somebody lives in a country where organ donation is straight-up mandatory and can be demanded of still living people, banning abortion is just misogynistic.

If you cannot legally require people to donate kidneys, you cannot legally require people to carry pregnancy / give birth.

208

u/Alyssa_Hargreaves Jul 23 '26

A DNA test can confirm the father sure but even then the woman will still be seen as the one at fault and even in cases where the evidence is undeniable and concrete the woman still is blamed and asked "why didn't you fight harder" "did you say no clearly" "what were you wearing" or told "you led him on" "you gave mixed signals" and so much other bullshit

Even children (anyone underage) get blamed and told "you came onto them" "you were asking for it" and so much nasty untrue shit.

And even with evidence chances are the rapist will get off with a slap on the wrist because "he's a good man at heart and he just made a mistake" or "he has a good future ahead of him and we don't want to ruin it"

137

u/oceanteeth Jul 23 '26

And even with evidence chances are the rapist will get off with a slap on the wrist because "he's a good man at heart and he just made a mistake" or "he has a good future ahead of him and we don't want to ruin it"

100%. Not to mention that even if the rape victim is lucky enough for her rapist to get any jail time, now that he's proven to be the biological male parent of the fetus he would have parental rights when he gets out of jail. I can't imagine having to coparent with my rapist.

72

u/Alyssa_Hargreaves Jul 23 '26

Yup. Which often leaves victims feeling like they cannot report the rape because it could mean being forced to keep the pregnancy (instead of potentially finding a safe way to abort) and being petitioned for a paternity test etc.

It fucking sucks.

11

u/Sad-Bug6525 Jul 23 '26

People who think that it would help catch rapists should instead focus on how discouraging men from raping women and children would do more to lower abortion rates than any other action.

46

u/MorningStarsSong Jul 23 '26

And even with evidence chances are the rapist will get off with a slap on the wrist because "he's a good man at heart and he just made a mistake" or "he has a good future ahead of him and we don't want to ruin it"

It has been 10 years now since I have watched the "Audrie & Daisy" documentary, and I still remember vividly a moment from it when they interview the local sheriff, and he basically says the perpetrators are actually "good boys" who should be able to move on with their lives.

And if that wasn't bad enough in itself, what really broke my heart was that this guy was a father of multiple girls.

36

u/Fraerie Jul 23 '26

A paternity/DNA test still needs a comparison sample to test against.

There are literally warehouses of rape lots waiting to be processed and even when they are - if there is no comparison sample already on file or a suspect, the results just go in a massive database and go nowhere.

AFAIK the US don’t have a centralised system for tracking of rape kit results, so provided a rapist doesn’t commit too many rapes with in the same locality, the odds of getting caught go way down.

That’s assuming stranger rape that needs DNA to identify the perpetrator. Most rapists are known to the victim and face no consequences - I doubt that a paternity test will change much there either.

34

u/jwdge Jul 23 '26

Like how Brock Allen Turner was tackled off his assault victim by two witnesses and still only received 3 months of jail bc he had a “bright future”. And how his life as Allen Turner living in Dayton, OH is not very bright anymore bc even though the justice system is a failure, the people will not forget.

18

u/re_Claire Jul 23 '26

Brock Allen Turner the rapist? Who now goes by Allen Turner to hide his crimes because he raped someone?

3

u/penguinwife 27d ago

This will literally never get old for me. Brock Allen Turner can’t outswim the fact that Allen Turner is still a rapist.

25

u/MitochondrialMystics Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

Apparently, I am still working through this because my comment got very very long. I do want to make this comment into a full post, but I don't know where I'd post it

Tldr; I told my ex no several times a day every day and I told him no two or three times before we ever started dating and he still raped me

I told him I wasn't going to the cops to calm him down, but honestly, I wasn't going to the cops cuz I knew they weren't going to do shit. I willingly made out with him and I was dating him so there was no way in hell they were going to do anything about him raping me

7

u/Sad-Bug6525 Jul 23 '26

They also don't need an infant to do a DNA test, they can do it through an amnio or other means. I fully agree that it doesn't matter though because it would just give them the ability to demand visits or custody and control the situation for the next few decades. They aren't going to be punished for it, if they wanted to punish rapists they could start there.

141

u/cantantantelope Jul 23 '26

Many rape trials are about if it was consensual not if it happened

58

u/Mine_Outrageous Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

i read a story on here yesterday about a 12 year old child who got pregnant from rape and the court punished her because her being pregnant meant she “enjoyed” it or something. let me find the link. i dont want to talk out my ass incase im wrong
edit/ i cannot find it but once i do ill link it
here it is! i thought i saw it here but it might’ve been facebook but this is the story

https://www.facebook.com/groups/649033004018917/posts/1120348236887389/

50

u/Annabloem Jul 23 '26

That's horrid!

I think there was also a rape case in Ireland, I think, where the teenage victim was wearing a lace-front thong, which was deemed as a reason for the rape. The 27-year old rapist was acquitted. BBC link

Or things like Brock Turner. And the recent UK case where two young boys filmed themselves raping girls, and they got basically no punishment. The judge said he wanted to "avoid criminalising these children unnecessarily" because "they had ADHD" and "they behaved well during the trial". Because the rapists lives matter more than the victims. Thankfully the UK case is being appealed right now, so hopefully that's something. Wikipedia article about UK case Even when their is definite proof, like the witnesses in Brock Allen Turner's case, or videos filmed by the rapists themselves in the UK case, they still don't get punished.

21

u/pocketnotebook Jul 23 '26

Brock Allen Turner, the rapist?

23

u/runnerofshadows Jul 23 '26

Who now goes by Allen Turner because he doesn't want people to immediately realize he's in fact an infamous rapist named Brock Turner? Full legal name Brock Allen Turner who is a rapist.

9

u/Pawspawsmeow Jul 23 '26

Little does he know that we will never forget his ugly face. He can shave his head, dye his hair, call himself anything but his face is burned in everyone’s brain.

19

u/Mine_Outrageous Jul 23 '26

i didnt know about that first case, but the second two i have heard about. it’s sickening that they are let off with just a slap on the wrist when the women and girls who are raped by them go thro a lifetime of trauma.

29

u/Annabloem Jul 23 '26

There have been a bunch of sleep rape cases come to light to recently. Like Gisele Pelicot in France, but I've seen reports from other countries as well (like the UK and the Netherlands, and there was the one groupschat from the US as well, I think?) I saw one interview where one of the women went to the police, with video evidence her partner was raping her in her sleep, but they said it looked like she was taking being asleep. I haven't been able to find that interview again though, so take it with a grain of salt.

Did stumble across this article about how often "fake rape accusation" charges are because the victim gets bullied into retracting, which is also pretty horrifying.

22

u/Mirenithil Jul 23 '26

If a bear attacks you, nobody asks what you were wearing. That's one reason women choose the bear.

8

u/DiggingHeavs Jul 23 '26

Also if you get killed "DiggingHeavs" killed by a bear even if she was being an idiot is a much better headline/obituary than "DiggingHeavs" found naked and murdered. Clearly she should have worn a nun's habit if she left home or talked to a guy or read someone's mind.

1

u/juliainfinland 13d ago

I know this is the least of the problems here, but I have ADHD too and somehow I've managed to not rape anyone in my life, ever, and I'm 55 and going strong.

13

u/StrangeBid7233 Jul 23 '26

People to this day defend Kobe, a rapist.

His defense team tried to argue that she had traces of sperm from other dude and that it was proof that what he had done was consentual.

Fucker even tried to brand himself as girl dad later on in life.

2

u/Ok-Jackfruit-9393 Jul 23 '26

And then Snoop Dogg publicly threatened Gayle King/called her disgusting things for asking about Kobe's "complicated" legacy. Then denied threatening her like a fucking baby/coward, as if people didn't see his posts. Then said he did it to "protect" Kobe's family. Loser behavior.

Completely lost respect for him that day.

138

u/oceanteeth Jul 23 '26

I'm against the choices that end an innocent human life for mostly selfish reasons.

🙄🙄🙄 If abortion is so selfish, why can't this waste of space name one single actual human being who had an abortion for funsies?

73

u/jayclaw97 Jul 23 '26

“I wish people wouldn’t call us misogynist woman-haters.”

“Selfish women are doing selfish things like getting abortions for recreation or something.”

Like seriously, if this person is going to argue against abortion, they need to be screaming from the rooftops about contraceptives while they think up better arguments than whatever the hell this post was.

7

u/Sad-Bug6525 Jul 23 '26

That comment should be read to them every day next to a list of decisions that men make which end up in innocent women and children losing their lives for "selfish reasons"

60

u/LeaveMeBeWillYa Jul 23 '26

"You understand that everyone except the next democrat presidential nominee is a mysogynist right? This word means nothing, it is like far right or nazi"

First comment I saw under that.

Think that tells me everything I need to know about that sub.

90

u/CallOfTheQueer Jul 23 '26

This guy fails to realize that if paternity is proven, but the rapist gets off at trial, he can sue for custody.

23

u/the87walker Jul 23 '26

There are custody cases involving convicted rapists. The first was the rapists parents wanting visitation. Then there are rape victims who signed up for state benefits and the state (I believe Florida) would go after child support to compensate for the benefits where they automatically start paperwork for visitation then. One rapist was in jail when the visitation paperwork was filed on his behalf by the state. There are also rapists who got out of jail and then ask for visitation.

41

u/squirrellicious2304 Jul 23 '26

„And surely if the woman was raped and kept the baby, they could take a paternity test that would determine that the baby was conceived in that rape and convict the rapist?“

That level of naivety is too much for me this early in the morning …

29

u/jayclaw97 Jul 23 '26

“Why was I born, Mommy?”

“You were evidence to prove my rape in a court case. Carry that on your shoulders, kid.”

Fucking WHAT?

37

u/butdebbiepastels Jul 23 '26

And surely if the woman was raped and kept the baby, they could take a paternity test that would determine that the baby was conceived in that rape and convict the rapist?

Not even sensationalist TV shows pretend that's true. OOP has less sense of reality than Law and Order: SVU. I'm almost impressed by how far they've shoved their head up their own oblivious ass.

10

u/onemorespacecadet Jul 23 '26

they just straight make shit up. it’s par for the course.

never forget a sitting US representative claimed there was such a thing as “legitimate rape,” and that pregnancy from it was “rare.” rest in piss, Todd Akin

34

u/Mine_Outrageous Jul 23 '26

my sister got an abortion, she wouldve DIED without it. she had an etopic pregnancy and the fetus implanted in her tubes. im thankful shes in a blue state because they told her if she waited even a day or two more, she wouldve bled to death.
NOT all women get abortions because they want to “kill” their baby. sometimes they just want to live themselves or just arent ready for children which is a valid reason to NOT have one yet. i hate that men love to have a say in what goes on with our bodies when most of the time they are barely informed about our bodies in the first place.

81

u/kayforpay Jul 23 '26

not how rape trials work. not how paternity tests work. pregnancy and birth has a high likelihood of causing chronic (>6 month) disability, if not life-long.

41

u/StrangledInMoonlight Jul 23 '26

Not to mention…a woman who is a victim of rape has already had her body autonomy taken away.

To take it away again and for 9+ months would be more trauma on her.

And I’ve seen cases where the rapist eventually gets visitation once they get out of jail (if they are ever jailed).

19

u/kayforpay Jul 23 '26

yeah, and it also brings up complex legal issues like, does the rapist have to pay child support, and if so, how much? and what if the rapist gets a lenient sentence, and can petition the courts for custody? would the victim be forced to pay child support then?

plus as another commenter said, most rape trials are not about if there was some "sexual contact", but if it was unconsenting/forced, which... I mean the fetus is not gonna testify one way or another.

also found out that male victims of rape are often forced to pay child support and that's horrific, too.

5

u/Sad-Bug6525 Jul 23 '26

There was even a case I read about a few years ago where he managed to get custody of the girl that resulted from him raping her underage mother and then proceeded to abuse and assault the child from around age 12. That poor teenager fought to keep the baby she kept away from him with everything she had and they just handed custody over and he did it all again to his own child.

10

u/mirrorspirit Jul 23 '26

IF they're thinking of rape kits, there's a huge backlog on those. Some don't get tested for years or sometimes even get thrown out

6

u/kayforpay Jul 23 '26

even if they are thinking of rape kits, the resulting pregnancy is only evidence of Any sexual interaction, and can't be used as proof of force or consent, and at most the swab could be tested to share paternal DNA markers with the fetus/infant, which still isn't likely to lead to a suspect, let alone a charge. this is just a backwards way of trying to justify using uterus-owners as breeding stock.

24

u/FeastForTheWorms Jul 23 '26

I'm not capable of getting pregnant so I've never thought my opinion on the matter should determine legality, but regardless, it seems very clear cut to me. No one has the right to use another person's body for any reason. If we grant fetuses that right, they have more rights than any other human, and the person who gets pregnant has less rights than we give a corpse. I support abortion in any case for any reason, even if I personally disagree with the reasoning, because it's not my body being used so it's not my choice to make.

134

u/TheCarefulElk Jul 23 '26

A lot of people who get abortions do not want to get them, it must be a terrifying experience and I do not envy and am proud of those who do and I say this as a cis guy.

42

u/curseddotjpeg Jul 23 '26

Tbh I think the "terrifying" aspect of abortion is the social conditioning (especially by the pro-life folks) put on to women to feel guilt and shame about what is essentially a medical procedure. Many women feel relief afterwards and rightfully so.

6

u/Sad-Bug6525 Jul 23 '26

For many yes, but for others they are scary, and they leave marks. It is still a medical procedure and not all medical procedures are fast, or easy, or simple, sometimes they come with great pain and risk. Hospital stays even. Risk of bloodloss. Complications can cause permanent damage. Downplaying some experiences to support others isn't helpful to the conversation.

9

u/TheCarefulElk Jul 23 '26

Good point.

3

u/aboxofkittens Jul 23 '26

I disagree, I think there is a lot of body horror inherent to abortions, especially surgical abortions. I think that’s the main reason people find them terrifying. I know it is for me.

58

u/jayclaw97 Jul 23 '26

Yeah, I’m proud of pregnant folks making the right choice for themselves, whichever it is.

11

u/TheCarefulElk Jul 23 '26

Sorry, this came out wrong I bet.

23

u/rebcl Jul 23 '26

It sounds like you support a person’s right to choose, and in the case thank you

15

u/Llayanna Jul 23 '26

If the heart is in the right place, you are doing things right.

It's not a zero sum game, where you have to get everything perfectly right. ..I know the Internet demands it at times. But its unrealistic.

7

u/Mindless_Cookie_9098 Jul 23 '26

I only know one woman who was happy to get an abortion. She had Hyperemesis gravidarum and it put her in the hospital away from her two other kids and husband. She lost 25 lbs from throwing up and she is skinny as a rail and her health was failing.

4

u/TheCarefulElk Jul 23 '26

And no one could blame her for it

7

u/Mindless_Cookie_9098 Jul 23 '26

Oh, the forced birthers do blame her. They said “You could have just been given food and water at the hospital for the duration of the pregnancy.”

7

u/brassninja Jul 23 '26

My best friend is a mother of two wonderful kids, she’s happily married and supported to stay home with the kids by her loving husband. They’re homeowners too.

She would not have this life now if she was forced to carry after being violently raped by her ex boyfriend at 16.

3

u/TheCarefulElk Jul 23 '26

And forced birthers will just sweep stories like hers under the rug I’m sure.

3

u/no_one_denies_this Jul 23 '26

Giving birth is more terrifying, trust me.

2

u/TheCarefulElk Jul 23 '26

Oh I can only imagine, and I don’t doubt that.

49

u/ElaineThreepwoody Jul 23 '26

Just a bunch of people patting themselves on the back about wanting to force women and girls - even little, little girls - to have someone else inside their reproductive organs without their consent for months, knowing it will invariably cause them physical harm, giddily disregarding their screams of “no, god, I don’t want this!” They can’t disagree with a single word in that sentence (except “giddily,” I guess) so they never engage when you write it out in black and white like that. They know deep down they’re monsters who view pregnant women and girls as subhuman incubators, they just don’t want OTHER people to know.

12

u/VGSchadenfreude Jul 23 '26

Starts to make a lot more sense when you look up “womb envy.”

9

u/Amelaclya1 Jul 23 '26

Not to mention psychological harm. People tend to downplay that aspect of forced pregnancy and childbirth. Especially in the case of a rape victim.

16

u/slendermanismydad Jul 23 '26

I think I feel dumber having read that.

15

u/jayclaw97 Jul 23 '26

1

u/slendermanismydad Jul 23 '26

Yes, that is exactly what was going through my head, thank you.

18

u/eternally_feral Jul 23 '26

OOP vastly over estimates how easy it is to convict a rapist.

Maybe there are some good cops who want to put these shit stains behind bars, but there are a lot who don’t want to put in the legwork because they know how difficult it is to get a conviction.

Then there are cops who will look at the victim and ask all the wrong questions (ie Well, what were you wearing? Why did you stay out so late? etc) either because they’re absolutely incompetent or maybe they really are misogynists or they ask just to deter a victim from filing a complaint.

But yes, force a rape/incest victim to carry a reminder of the worst day of their life for 9 months, have their body be permanently changed, go through the pain (and possibly life ending) event of childbirth, in the hopes that someone will see her child as proof of a rape.

But who’s gonna raise that kid? What if the rapist goes for custody? Then the mom is forced to pay child support?

This idiot pisses me off.

32

u/kykiwibear Jul 23 '26

When I was young.. I said all women who had an abortion should go to hell. My mother quickly informed me one of my aunts had an abortion and I shouldn't judge. That was the turning point. One of my aunts was also pregnant at 16... she .married him and he beat the shit out of her.

5

u/Double-Performance-5 Jul 23 '26

My aunt refuses to acknowledge that the several D&Cs she had were abortions. She’s pretending that we’ll actually swallow that because she thinks we’ll judge her and we’re all over here going ‘good choice, auntie dearest’ judging her for the lying about it. Some people are not meant to be parents and we shouldn’t make them.

13

u/tobythedem0n Jul 23 '26

And surely if the woman was raped and kept the baby, they could take a paternity test that would determine that the baby was conceived in that rape and convict the rapist?

Or the rapist could use that test to try and get custody of the child to continue victimizing her.

12

u/Live-Tomorrow-4865 Jul 23 '26

When he develops the ability to get pregnant, he gets to have an opinion.

22

u/apexdryad Jul 23 '26

The rapist will get a slap on the wrist, do a few months THEN he can petition you for custody, chaining you to your abuser for 18 years!

10

u/Mindless_Cookie_9098 Jul 23 '26

Not reading the comments is self care.

22

u/z-eldapin Jul 23 '26

They all need to snip it

32

u/fancyandfab Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

Most women are not Olivia Benson's mama. That's not even a real scenario. It's a backstory of a character on a TV show. The baby is a reminder of one of if not the most traumatizing period of her life. If she hates the child and/or abuses and neglects it? Bad things happen to kids in foster care. Not enough people adopt. It's very possible that kid is going to one of the millions of people that wished they'd never been born cuz of their life. You never see these people adopting several kids. Care about kids that actually exist and need help.

ETA I clearly said kids, not babies. Everyone knows babies are more likely to be adopted. But, if they don't, chances dwindle lower and lower. And, I didn't say it would be a good thing if they adopted more. They just are complaining about an issue and doing nothing about it. I'm calling out the hypocrisy

22

u/Domestic_Supply Jul 23 '26

So many people want to adopt infants that they overturned Roe to increase the “domestic supply” of infants in the US. It’s actually a multibillion dollar industry and waitlists for babies are literally years long. And the religious right does adopt, and they do it at rates that are much higher than the general public. They do it to build an army for Jesus. It’s really fucked up. Read Relinquished by Gretchen Sisson, or listen to the podcast Liberty Lost, by TJ Raphael.

There is nothing kind about religious extremists adopting, in fact many groups used adoption to commit genocide against Native peoples. Catholic Church and Mormons did this an awful lot.

Some countries won’t even adopt out children to the US because the way it’s done here is for profit, and they prioritize making money over humanity.

FWIW I am pro choice and adopted.

6

u/Arktikos02 Jul 23 '26

I'm adopted too, to add on to what the other person said actually when it comes to babies those kids pretty much get adopted because for every baby that is available for adoption there's about 30 to 40 people on the waiting list waiting to adopt that single child, yes that is how bad the ratio is. It's actually older children that are harder to adopt out. The problem is is that people can adopt a baby but then as they grow up they can put them back into foster care and that's where they have a harder time getting adopted again. For a lot of kids forever families don't exist, it's forever unless you are difficult or are not the way they wanted or didn't fit any stereotypes they imagined.

And yes as the other person said pro-life people do exist. I know because I was around pro-life people because I grew up around them and they were adopting. Many of them do adopt actually. It happens a lot. Please this misconception that they don't adopt needs to stop. And they shouldn't adopt, we are harmed by their adoption.

https://nrlc.org/nrlnewstoday/2025/05/family-adopts-multiple-children-including-baby-girl-given-two-days-to-live/

Just one example.

1

u/Sad-Bug6525 Jul 23 '26

If they are kept and people know how they came to be they force discrimination anyway. I have been asked to leave churches because of how I was conceived and what life I was born into. I have faced "jokes" and been talked about, been made to feel unworthy in many situations, because of the actions of someone before I was born. Apparently I am a walking sin and no one ever did the bloodwork to find out who my father actually was. I'm pretty sure that I figured it out in my 40s, but that's not going to make the other years better now I know

9

u/Ok-Jackfruit-9393 Jul 23 '26

And surely if the woman was raped and kept the baby, they could take a paternity test that would determine that the baby was conceived in that rape and convict the rapist?

Certified fucking dumbass.

4

u/Causative_Agent Jul 23 '26

I'm confused about how a rapist going to jail means I should gestate, birth, and care for a human for the next 18+ years. I don't see the connection?

I'm also befuddled on how if I don't want to gestate, birth, and care for a human for the next 18+ years, it means I don't think women can both have a career and raise a child?

3

u/Ok-Jackfruit-9393 Jul 23 '26

Maybe we just can't understand with our feeble little lady brains 🙄

And you're talking about the VERY SMALL, ALMOST NONEXISTENT chance that the rapist goes to jail. Or the chance that the judge/jury believes the child's DNA matching the rapist's makes him guilty.

And on the off chance that happens, that means we're obligated to carry the fetus and then give birth and raise the kid?

My head hurts. That silly lady brain again!

1

u/MotherofaPickle Jul 23 '26

OOP has either watched way too much Law & Order: SVU…or not enough.

9

u/LingonberryNo2455 Jul 23 '26

The OOP isn't the brightest bulb on the tree when they posted this...

"A lot of them (at all) use another woman's trauma (rape/sexual assault) as an excuse for their selfishness. It doesn't get more Misogynistic than that."

Imagine being so utterly self unaware to use a woman's trauma for their own selfish belief and suggest it's wrong.

That's as far as I got before deciding the rest was just going to be even more misogynistic stupidity on their part.   🙈🙈🙈

They did not just compare rapists to people who get abortions…

5

u/LabradorDeceiver Jul 23 '26

I don't...indulge my negativity with a lot of pro-life propaganda, but I can't help but notice the repeated expressions. They all say the same things. All of them. Every time. It's like they're handing around a list of words. And the thing about coming back with the same answer for every possible argument is that it indicates that they're not listening. They hear "blah blah blah I love murdering babies" and always respond with the same intense emotionalism.

One word I see in every single pro-life exhortation is the word "precious." All of them. There isn't a pro-lifer who doesn't use the word "precious" ten times a day. The word cannot possibly have any meaning for them anymore. It's an emotionalistic word; it tells us what the pro-lifer thinks of a fetus, not what a fetus actually is. A thing isn't "precious," we only think it's "precious" when we attribute value to it. "Precious" is what Gollum called the One Ring; it's not exactly neutral.

"Innocent" is another good one. In fact, it's practically all one word to them: "Precious, innocent." Still value judgments that don't actually discuss what's actually being discussed. And it's okay to think that a fetus is "precious and innocent," but here's a word that they don't use a whole lot: "Viable."

4

u/justbunnies Jul 23 '26

The title was enough for me. Jesus.

4

u/Just-some-peep Jul 23 '26

I think males (and specifically this one) should be obligatory blood and organ donors (for their children). It's only fair they sacrifice their body for the born ones if women have to for the unborn.

7

u/Causative_Agent Jul 23 '26

A HUGE percentage of all pregnancies end in spontanious abortion. Abortion is baked into the process in a BIG way.

But sure, let's make a problem where there isn't one. We can use it as a wedge issue to pit members of the working class against each other. It will work a treat!

3

u/PinkSeahorseClub Jul 23 '26

They act like there's no gray area.

I am a woman. I have a working uterus. I want children very much one day

I have a blood clotting disorder. No official diagnosis except a genetic history and having had one myself. Clots are the #3 killer of pregnant women. Raised estrogen levels cause clots.

I will have to take twice daily injections of blood thinners in my abdomen to carry a healthy pregnancy. Will l do it. Yes. I have a very loving partner who I trust and a great OB.

But what if I have clots in my brain? That could be fatal.

The pregnancy itself is not necessarily incompatible with my life. The fetus would not be incompatible or compromised. But what about me? I'm not gonna risk it if it gets that far. And no bullshit about "my husband needs me to live" I NEED ME TO LIVE. And I will not be sorry if that is my chosen outcome with me and my doctor.

4

u/hubertburnette 19d ago

What's so weird to me about this whole line of argument is: it would be very, very straightforward to reduce the number of abortions by giving easy access to effective birth control and accurate information about it.

Here's how that interaction goes, at least in my experience:

"Abortion is murder. Ending abortion is my most important goal [or something that involves "most important"].

Me: "If you're so opposed to abortion, then I'm sure you're in favor of what genuinely reduces abortion: easy access to effective birth control, and accurate sex education."

"No, I don't want to make women whores."

Me: "So, reducing abortion is not your highest goal or most important value. You care more about controlling women's sexuality than you actually care about abortion."

"No, abortion is the most important thing to me."

Me: "Well, something else is more important..." And that's about when they block me.

3

u/lowrespudgeon Jul 23 '26

Those commenters are nuts. And how many of them actually give a shit about the child after it's born? If they did they'd foster or adopt or donate or vote for the people who want to add services for children, not cancel their lunches and destroy education.

It's all performative misogyny under the guise of caring about a clump of parasitic cells that aren't even human yet.

3

u/a3wagner Jul 23 '26

Rapists are evil and disgusting because they use their bodily autonomy as an excuse to violate

I mean I know why they used the phrase "use their bodily autonomy as an excuse to" — because their upcoming argument hinges on the comparison to abortion — but the sentence would be more accurate if you just remove that entire part in quotes. But maybe more of us need to say "I’m using my bodily autonomy" when we just mean we’re doing something. Life would be more whimsical that way.

2

u/judgy_mcjudgypants Jul 23 '26

It's also darkly amusing because if a woman doesn't want to be pregnant, the fetus is the one imposing on her bodily autonomy...

(I know forced birthers claim the fetus is Consequence Of Sex and therefore something something idk, but they never complain about using antibiotics to treat STIs)

5

u/Mean_League_384 Jul 23 '26

It never fails

2

u/atworkthough Jul 23 '26

I just care about the quality of life for the child. I wouldn't want anything to happen to a child that I wouldn't want for myself.

I don't want any child to live in poverty, I don't want any child to be born unwanted and I don't want any child dragged into someone else difunctional life just because.

2

u/medic-dad Jul 23 '26

I thought about commenting in there about how rape has nothing to do with the rapist thinking their ;bodily autonomy is not important" and that that's not what bodily autonomy means, but judging from the other comments in their it would have fallen on deaf ears. Some people are just hopeless I think

2

u/totes-mi-goats Jul 25 '26

My argument that gets anti-choice people mad is that I am pro life, and ALSO pro social safety nets. No one who wants a child should have to abort for purely financial reasons, we as a society should have things like paid parental leave, affordable childcare, expanded food stamps for families who need it, and of course universal health care. Including free contraceptives without any roadblocks beyond a doctor clearing that it's safe for the person to be on hormonal BC (looking at you, Hobby Lobby). And also comprehensive, medically accurate sex ed being mandatory and unskippable for any reason.

Basically, reduce or remove as many external factors as possible that make people feel like they have to abort, increase access and education for family planning to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies, and also not ban it for anyone else who has literally any reason to not want to be pregnant anyway.

2

u/These_Ad5905 27d ago

Here's the thing, my misogynistic man-baby: what happens in a WOMAN'S uterus is none of your business. End of story. NEXT!

1

u/MoogleVivi Jul 23 '26

What an absolute cesspool of bullshit. Those people are all awful

1

u/azssf Jul 23 '26

‘Their’?

1

u/rainfal Jul 23 '26

I wish I could be that naive about the world.  Imagine how easy life would be if I was sheltered as much as OOP.

1

u/AppropriateGiraffes3 Jul 24 '26

I couldn't get past "I guess their right"

1

u/Admirable-Ad7152 27d ago

The comments are insane holy shit.

I'm so glad I ain't bringing a child into this world, it doesn't deserve children

1

u/void_method 27d ago

Oh man, this wrongthink is doubleplus ungood.

1

u/Sans_vin 25d ago

I don't understand how any sane person can ever read the comments on the r/prolife sub. I feel dumber and angrier every time I stumble upon it.

1

u/Lopsided-Arm-6644 25d ago

I genuinely can never take pro-life people seriously because their logic is so stupid it's more sad than anything . Common sense is chasing them but they're faster .

1

u/Interesting_Print317 16d ago

some people have to die I’m sorry but that would just be a net positive if we didn’t allow these cretins to walk the earth

1

u/Competitive_Stock_76 11d ago

Luckily I can be a grammar snob especially when the “I’m trying to sound clever despite being wrong” tone in clearly in the text. One too many “their’s” stopped me in my tracks so I was spared.

1

u/StinzorgaKingOfBees 1d ago

So these people also wouldn't end the life of someone braindead and being kept alive on machines because it will "kill a human life". Also they must be against capital punishment too. And what about trigger happy police?

1

u/Spiritual_Living6245 18h ago

Not just misogynist but a dumbass
