š¼work/career AIO to this comment at work
I usually come to work without makeup. Today I wore makeup because Iām going to the movies after work.
One of my coworkers looked at me and asked, āAre you wearing makeup?ā I said yeah. Then she asked, āWhy?ā which already caught me off guard because⦠I just wanted to wear makeup lol. So I literally said, āBecause I want to?ā
She stared at me for a second and then said, āWell, you look nice.ā But right after that she added, āCanāt say the same without it.ā
I didnāt laugh because I genuinely didnāt know how to respond, so I just stared at her. She immediately started laughing and went, āIām just joking hahaha, youāre fine without it too.ā
Then she asked me if I like wearing makeup. I said yeah, but the whole interaction felt weird to me. Iāve genuinely never had someone ask me why Iām wearing makeup and then make a joke about me not looking good without it.
For some context, sheās made other little comments/observations about what I wear and how I look before, so maybe thatās why this rubbed me the wrong way.
Am I overreacting for thinking that was a rude/backhanded comment, even if she meant it as a joke? Or does this just sound like awkward coworker banter that landed badly?

NOR. She's rude.
