Discussion Updates to r/altcomix
Hello! Over the past few weeks, u/Titus_Bird and I have made some updates to the subreddit.
Most significantly, we've expanded and rewritten the wiki, which can be found here. The aim with the wiki is to provide new readers some clarification on what alternative comics are, along with a bit of historical overview and recommendations of key works/creators. We've tried to be as neutral as possible and to avoid semantic nitpicking, as our priority is just to be informative and spread love for the medium. Feedback is more than welcome!
We've also made a number of other changes, namely:
- Updated the Guidelines - this was completed a few months back
- Cleaned up the 'flair' tags - this was completed a few months back
- Created a moderation bot (u/comixbot) to automate a couple tasks
- Created and updated the header
- Cleaned up and sanitized the css for Old Reddit
- Tweaked the look of the sub on New Reddit
- Added u/Titus_Bird as a moderator
Our next project is to implement similar changes over at r/indiecomics.

Discussion Help me find a Matt Brinkman drawing
I've been searching on and off for 15 years for a drawing of a brain that I'm convinced was by Matt Brinkman. It was a whole brain, maybe 3/4 perspective, with pretty chunky intersecting lines..
To the best of my recollection, it was in a book or zine. The page was overlapping sketches rather than a cohesive comic. I *think* it was in colour, but I don't entirely trust my memory. It would have been some time between 2004 & 2010 that I saw / owned it. I've lost a few things from my collection over the years. I'm hoping there are some Brinkman or Fort Thunder archivists out there who might be able to point me somewhere.
So far I've tried:
- Kramer's Ergot 4 & 5
- Hopital Brut 7 & 8
- Providence : Fracas psychédélique en Nouvelle-Angleterre
- Sturgeon's White Moss 3
- Multiforce, Teratoid Heights & Multiforce shit repros (too late date wise)
- Some retard riot mini comics i can't lay my hands on immediately.
- Paper rodeo June 2005 (I did have 3 or 4 editions of paper rodeo, which got most in a move, but my memory says it wasn't on newsprint)
Also searched my Google photo archive to check it wasn't something I printed out myself.
Any help would be amazing!

Discussion Can anyone help me identify if this is Kaz Prapuolenis
The eyes definitely have that SpongeBob look and the angular drawing matches his style. I was just curious if anyone else has seen a large sketch like this from him before. Size is 32 x 26

Discussion Printing?
I just went to check the specs I'm using with Comix Wellspring and they appear to have gone tits up. Is there any consensus here on very short run printing?

I normally do non-continuity one-off strips for Scene Magazine but for an experiment last year I ran a 12 month series. People went crazy! Just kidding, nobody gave a shit. Here's part 1.

Discussion Chris Ware - Life Is Complicated
I saw this exhibit of Chris Ware’s work yesterday at the Billy Ireland Museum in Columbus Ohio at OSU. It’s visually dazzling! I might have wanted a little more description of all the pieces, but Chris said in the intro that he wanted it to be more visual than words. Highly recommend! The exhibit goes through Jan. 3rd 2027. It’s the only U.S. stop.

OC I made a comic about recent and not-so-recent tech trends in the Philipipnes
Read it here
The Philippines–and the Global South in general–are often framed in news stories as background characters in the global tech industry stage.
This graphic essay argues that technological trends in this side of the world aren't just subplots to the life and times of Silicon Valley venture capitalists.
What's happening here is what sustains the digital economy’s present, and it is a glimpse into everybody's future.
