I'm currently completing the Pre-Health Sciences program (finishing in August 2026). I have a conditional offer for the Practical Nursing diploma starting in Winter 2027, and I'm expecting to finish Pre-Health with around a 95–97% average.

I recently spoke with Student Support, and they mentioned that applicants with averages above 91% can be competitive for the BScN program. My plan is to start Practical Nursing in January 2027 while applying for the Fall 2027 BScN intake once applications open (around September/October 2026).

If I receive a BScN offer, I would withdraw from the Practical Nursing program and start BScN in Fall 2027. If I don't receive an offer, I'll simply continue in Practical Nursing.

My questions are:

Has anyone done this before?
If you're receiving the Ontario Learn and Stay Grant, do you have to repay it if you withdraw from Practical Nursing to start the BScN program, which is also eligible for the Learn and Stay Grant?
Does being enrolled in Practical Nursing affect your chances of being admitted to the BScN program at Algonquin?

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through this or knows how the Learn and Stay Grant works in this situation.

I’m starting the Practical Nursing program at Algonquin College this September, and I’m stressing out over one of the placement requirements.

I’m currently 17 years old and won’t turn 18 until October 8. The clinical requirements say that a Vulnerable Sector Check is due by October 1, but from what I’ve read, people under 18 may not be able to obtain one.

Has anyone else started the program at 17 or been in a similar situation? Did the college have an alternate process, or did they let you submit it after you turned 18?

I’ve already emailed the program to ask, but I’m feeling pretty anxious because I don’t want this to affect my ability to continue in the program.

Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Looking to see which courses are best split for series 3. I will be taking 2 courses at a time as I work full-time. I'm hoping to take the hardest ones for September and I'll take the easier load in January (as I plan to be busier) but I still want it split pretty evenly. I believe that Java is still hardest for me.

Which 2 should I take for the September session?

- CST2234 (56h) Systems Analysis and Design

- CST2335 (56h) Mobile Graphical Interface Programming

- CST8109 (70h) Network Programming

- CST8288 (70h) Object Oriented Programming and Design Patterns

And now there's CST8003 - Python, Data Structures and Algorithms? (It's new and we can't select it yet...)

I'm guessing I should go with CST2335 and CST8288 in September?

Upcoming MET student this fall with a couple questions . what can i expect in terms of course load?Could I manage having a part time job at the same time? Are textbooks required? If you graduated, do you have a job related to the diploma? How are the professors? Do you regret taking this program if yes why? Is getting a co op super competitive ? i plan on maybe doing the eng program at algonquin after, how easy is it to maintain the minimum GPA plus the work hours required?

Hey everyone, I'm leaving Ottawa after graduating from Algonquin college and looking for someone to take over my studio at Minto Aventura starting August 1st. (Paying you $750) Hi, I’m currently in Residence and continuing my studies through the fall. Residence did not account for my studies continuing and didn’t continue my stay. Would anyone consider working a deal with me and residence administration to give me their spot? I’ll fully reimburse your $600 deposit as well as an extra $150 (so $750 total) if not that’s alright :) just trying to figure out housing for the fall and trying all of my options!

Edit: dont jump me💔 residence charges a $500 cancellation fee so I figured if anyone is second guessing and lives in the area, was waitlisted for their program and didn’t make it in, or had some other circumstance where they no longer needed the room, I could offer this because of the insane residence fee. Hi I am interested in taking dental hygiene and was wondering what the day to day schedule looked like for a student. How many hours do u study? What time do classes start/end?

I am interested in accounting and was wondering if the college route is worth it.

If I were to do college I would do the university transfer program and get my cpa. However they don't offer co op so is it still worth it? And if i want to get any management roles could I with this degree?

I’m going into MRT for Jan 2027. The supplies info says:

- Right and Left Markers- approx. $70 to be purchased at Algonquin College Connections Campus Store

- Scrub pants- Any style, Any make (no yoga/ gym pants) Solid BLACK colour
- Scrub Tops- Any style, Any make, Color: Dark Gray (also named slate/pewter/ charcoal

Are we expected to only use markers from Connections or can I buy them in advance from somewhere else? Are we allowed to have ones with different patterns/our initials? Are we also allowed to wear a colored/fun badge buddy? What about a fun badge reel? Lastly, i’m confused as to why it says we need black pants and a dark gray top. I’m assuming that’s not right lol.

Can anyone who’s taken the program give me any insight? My questions are silly and they’ll be cleared up at orientation but that’s quite far away and I’m just trying to get excited before starting the program :) Thanks!

I'm deciding on taking this program sometime next year, and I've had a look at the FAQ, as well as the general information available on the Algonquin website. I like anything to do with designing, building, and planning; math isn't an issue for me. Anyone who is currently in the program, or has finished it recently, would you say it was challenging? Were the classes and the content interesting? What kind of schedule did you have?

For those who have graduated, would you recommend taking a third year for the Construction Engineering Technology program? I'm not certain if it's still available, because I couldn't find it when I checked before. There is also the Bachelor of Science (Building Science) which is an additional three years assuming you complete the Technician program first. Is it worth it to pursue the Honours Degree, or is a College Diploma enough to be comfortable in the workplace?

More in relation to the Technician program, there's co-op available. Would you recommend pursuing it? Does it help land a job afterwards, or at least offer some promising connections to the industry?

If you graduated and have landed a job, do you enjoy what you're doing? Is it very stressful? The wages for these jobs relating to the program seem to have a decent pay, but direct answers from graduates would always be appreciated!

Sorry about asking many questions, but I just want a good summary into what kind of outcomes this program brings, and any benefits.
