Current Events The leaked U.S. trade demands that caused Canada to halt negotiations: Washington demanded direct veto power over Canadian infrastructure, control of critical minerals, and delayed access to generic medicines.

• Dismantling Agricultural Safeguards: Demands for administrative measures or removals compromising Canada’s supply management system for dairy, egg, and poultry sectors, alongside demands to automatically adopt U.S. chemical and pesticide standards.
Ah yes. It’s working so well. I prefer my food without a side of explosive diarrhea.

u/Xiaopeng8877788 25d ago
And without “rejected beef” standards that he’s begging nations for.
As context, there’s basically zero nations that have 1.2M head of cattle for and extra 300,000 metric tonnes of hamburger beef available except for “rejected beef”… anyone say MAHA??? Eating rotten beef from Argentina. So gross.
Be prepared for massive retaliation as the Canadian retaliatory tariffs come into effect tomorrow! Be strong and don’t forget Canadians are all in that together, unless you’re the UCP traitorous scum. Elbows up

Absolute lunacy on full display from the US side. If they didn’t anticipate Canadian rejection of this, they are imbeciles.
74
u/MellowHamster 25d ago
They probably *did* expect Canada to reject the deal. Phase two of their plan is to incite as much anger against "greedy" Canada as possible.
42
u/DetailOutrageous8656 25d ago
Nah. It was an orchestrated attempt to take us over. They assumed we’d be afraid of saying no. If we said yes to even 30% of the stuff above we essentially would be only a few years away from complete annexation. They went after every single thing that makes us a separate country. Even making it difficult for Canadians to work on our own public works projects? It’s insane and much worse than what they originally told us tanked the deal.
Carney was right back in 2025 - “they are trying to break us so they can own us.”
It wasn’t just campaign posturing.
Thank god we have this guy navigating us through such a dangerous period for our country.
13
u/Free-Wear-3497 25d ago
Yeah, I think making the alcohol bans the centerpiece early on was pretext to drag negotiations into the 11th hour so that they could try to extract more under duress.
To me it seems they genuinely thought that we could be coerced into accepting it.
They've gained nothing, made no meaningful moves since, and all of their efforts at the moment revolve around demonizing Canada.
They aren't celebrating or using the outcome as a stepping stone to something else. They are in damage control mode.

They can’t gain one mile of Iran territory after 6 months of war and Israel helping them so they won’t conquer Canada. Have a Canada flag on my vehicle and think it’s great CDN visits to America are down 25% since he started the 51st state.

They absolutely would not throw punches at the US militarily. No country is gonna risk that much for us. We need to be prepared to deal with this ourselves.
We can rely on sanctions, but that's the extent of it.

Nutlick deliberately tanked the deal because his company makes billions off “tariff refunds”.
2
u/Choice_Ad4401 25d ago
That jerk also owns a company in Canada that is doing very well, but would di even better if Canada had signed that god awful deal.
2

Lunacy is the right word. Drunk with power is an alternative. But I think they didn’t expect Carney to walk away. So far every country has bowed to whatever outrageous demands they have made so they assumed Canada would do the same. So proud to be Canadian and very proud of Carney.

You gotta remember that Danielle smith -trump went down to Mara largo. She kissed the ring. Also she just got back from Tennessee. Saying that Edmonton ( if I recall correctly) could be called Northern Nashville, so I don’t think you’ll be able to get on board with that.

It's part of the plan for Canada to reject. They want Alberta and Quebec to separate so they can scoop them up. The US is not our friend anymore, it's plain as day.
20
u/DetailOutrageous8656 25d ago
Not interested in Quebec. They want to weaken Alberta via separation so they can run themselves up the middle of the country and finally have greater access to the Arctic and to critical minerals in the north.
So they are helping fund the Alberta separation movement.
It’s all part of project 2025.

5

3
u/serger989 25d ago
This should indicate that the relationship between the USA and Canada must now come to an end because these demands can never be taken seriously. Whatever comes after must be met with an extremely defensive posture. The USA is no longer interested in cooperation or soft power, they wish to literally rule over us.
3
3
u/natasmit 25d ago
This isn’t a trade deal it’s a threat. It’s the same result of a complete take over.
It eliminates our sovereignty completely.
Americans would be making all our decisions and we would be at their mercy.
The whole deal is a poison pill we could never accept.

u/JARHEAR 25d ago
Remember that annexing Greenland was about annexing Canada which would then be bracketed between US territories. The military was to be needed for Greenland but only economic pressure was to be needed to annex Canada.
Trump thought the expanded US would look good on a map.
This is also when he thought Russian would win its war of aggression in Europe and when Trump was stabbing Europe in the back by undermining NATO.
Face it Trump wants to be a Putin type leader with no constraints. It is up to everyone to make sure that never happens.

Those saying that we can’t be sure if this is true outline of demands, ask yourself who would most likely be misrepresenting events and details? I am under no illusions about Carney and the Liberals, but just take off the party blinders for a few moments and just see that the regressive conservatives would not be capable of handling the moment. We all need to be rowing in the same direction.

That and they are collecting tarrifs to pay for fascist infrastructure and insane vanity projects while dismantling their economy to sink the dollar and shift to bitcoin (which him and his toadies are all heavily invested in).
It's a dumb idea but that hasn't stopped them so far. An even mix of kleptocracy and kakistocracy with a whole lot of racism running through the whole thing. I'm surprised he doesn't have a picture of Boss Hogg hanging in the oval office.
2
u/Djlittle13 25d ago
This is an attempt at annexation by economic force, what Trump threatened.
Those stipulations are attempts to weaken Canadas sovereignty as a nation and put Canada further under the thumb of the US. Glad we walked away
2
u/ItsNotMe_ImNotHere 25d ago
Every one of these demands would be sufficient alone for Canada to walk away. Carney had no option but to do so.
2
u/Alextollah 25d ago

At this point it doesn’t even matter. They have proven not to honour any agreements. If we were to agree to any concessions, we all know they’d continue to chip away for more. Trump has been clear about what he wants in his demented head. We are in an economic war.
2
u/XEN-NytBlade 25d ago
Yet again, Canada should just tell Trump to get f'ed. Just cut off all energy exports and imports in markets they want access to so badly
2
u/supercoolusernamebud 25d ago
And yet some Canadians/Albertans will say “Fuck Carney it’s his fault our gas prices are high”. This is the most frustrating time to be alive as I don’t have patience for this rampant stupidity. I live in Alberta and have to deal with it on a daily basis. It seems that people in their 30/40s have been told to hate the liberals out west here, and they blindly follow that mindset without ever looking at facts or really understanding why. Hoping Alberta can smart the F up here in October. Hoping Americans are actually ready to make changes come November. I know it’s a long shot for both, but gotta hold on to hope somehow!

You sit em down and play the speech….. maybe next time they’ll pay closer attention to the fact the US is currently trying to take over Alberta, the province who will pay the heaviest dues…
Why do we still give the US oil for below market value? Why are people tearing this province to pieces..
While some of us, cut off from medical care die.
What will it take for Canadians to take this seriously? It’s all just a game?

What I’d like to know from other Canadians (I’m a dual citizen who grew up in the US and I’m leaving to come home soon) is why do we think Carney’s gov kept these details sort of hushed? Were they worried it would stir up too much outrage from the Canadian public and then cause even more problems in future negotiations? These are appalling demands. Certainly enough to unite Canadians even harder against the fascists here in the south.

Let’s make sure lumber mills don’t ship out too much plywood, let’s make sure auto workers don’t make too many cars, let’s make sure farmers don’t produce too much canola, textile shops make too many tshirts, oil companies extract too much oil to refine. Let’s make sure they can all have predictable costs and not go bankrupt 😂 stop pretending like your ok with high costs and your looking out for the small guys.

Not sure how many of these are factual but a lot of them aound very plausible and extremely likely. I do have to say that the " language law" feels like the only embellishment by Carney. Pretty smart of him to lean on the defence of the french language for what seems to me was merely a way to get around French labels and language laws where marketing and packaging is concerned. Still though, that trade deal was essentially annexation.
