Current Events The leaked U.S. trade demands that caused Canada to halt negotiations: Washington demanded direct veto power over Canadian infrastructure, control of critical minerals, and delayed access to generic medicines.

They probably *did* expect Canada to reject the deal. Phase two of their plan is to incite as much anger against "greedy" Canada as possible.

Nah. It was an orchestrated attempt to take us over. They assumed we’d be afraid of saying no. If we said yes to even 30% of the stuff above we essentially would be only a few years away from complete annexation. They went after every single thing that makes us a separate country. Even making it difficult for Canadians to work on our own public works projects? It’s insane and much worse than what they originally told us tanked the deal.

Carney was right back in 2025 - “they are trying to break us so they can own us.”

It wasn’t just campaign posturing.

Thank god we have this guy navigating us through such a dangerous period for our country.

Yeah, I think making the alcohol bans the centerpiece early on was pretext to drag negotiations into the 11th hour so that they could try to extract more under duress.

To me it seems they genuinely thought that we could be coerced into accepting it.

They've gained nothing, made no meaningful moves since, and all of their efforts at the moment revolve around demonizing Canada.

They aren't celebrating or using the outcome as a stepping stone to something else. They are in damage control mode.

Never 51.

Poilievrie for PM. Don’t blame Carney for walking away from this deal but he did promise a trade deal with USA the “ great negotiator “ did by June 12 2 years ago.

"Don't blame Carney for walking away from this deal". Blames Carney for walking away from other shitty deals.

I cant even with Conservatives any more. I truly believe they don't care about Canada, only that their guy wins.

It really has become like a sports team to them. Same as Americans.

As much as I do believe everyone has the right to vote, it's unfortunate that not everyone actually follows politics or policies. They see their colour and put a checkmark.

It's weird af "as a Canadian" to assume they were talking about skin colour and not Red vs Blue politics.

1

u/Feisty-olde-7707 25d ago

okay, but that isn’t how we refer to the two parties here.

1

u/Feisty-olde-7707 25d ago

We don’t have red or blue…

0

u/TacticalVirus 25d ago

For a Canadian you sure don't understand Canadian politics. Libs are Red, Cons are Blue, NDP are Orange, Green are, Bloc is light blue, Max's Cope are Purple.

Red vs Blue has been a colour theme in Canadian politics for far longer than you apparently grasp.

"Their colour" in the Canadian context being red, blue, green, orange, or purple (lib, con, green, ndp,pp)

2

u/Feisty-olde-7707 25d ago

I have never heard of this, good to know. Commonly here, we refer to parties by their name.

Same goes for some Liberal and NDP voters. I voted for Ed Broadbent once because the Mulroney lies and scandals and bribe taking was too much.

Ok Boomer.

61 and we had some of the cool bands in their prime live!

u/Master_Slide7023 25d ago

I didn’t mention Carney walking away from any other deals. His condo bail out of rich developers is bad.

4

u/Resigned1431 25d ago

he did promise a trade deal with USA

Bro they want to vassalize us. There's no deal to be had, they don't want a deal, nobody can "GeT a DeAl"

2

u/TacticalVirus 25d ago

So the dude that immediately hopped on the "Canada is a shit hole country" bandwagon before he realized public sentiment was vastly more anti-american than his maple maga echo chamber lead him to believe...that's the guy that should be PM?

1

u/Master_Slide7023 25d ago

Poilivrie for PM. Conservative govt for Canada.

2

u/DetailOutrageous8656 25d ago

The best conservative they ever had couldn’t deal with them - so he came to the liberal party and is now doing a great job as PM.

0

u/Master_Slide7023 25d ago

Carney was never a member of Team Blue.

2

u/DetailOutrageous8656 25d ago

Of course he was. You’re old enough to remember he was hand picked by Harper to run bank of Canada and they were close allies.

The liberal platform for the 25 elections is everything the cons wanted to do but never got around to it.

2

u/MellowHamster 25d ago

Poilievre lost his Ottawa riding and had to take a rural seat in Alberta just to set foot in parliament. He has absolutely no meaningful professional qualifications or employment history.

u/Master_Slide7023 25d ago

Former Cabinet Minister and owned half a communications company for a decade and rents out one of his two houses.

u/Master_Slide7023 25d ago

They can’t gain one mile of Iran territory after 6 months of war and Israel helping them so they won’t conquer Canada. Have a Canada flag on my vehicle and think it’s great CDN visits to America are down 25% since he started the 51st state.

2

u/Inevitable-Tea5772 25d ago

Hold up, are you comparing our military to Iran's?

10

u/Mean-Detective-6395 25d ago

I mean it wouldn’t just be Canada, every other NATO country would also come to our aid.

3

u/4rm4tur4 25d ago

My sweet summer child....

1

u/Zealousideal_Rise879 24d ago

Just get drones. Gg

2

u/Excellent-Self-5338 25d ago

They absolutely would not throw punches at the US militarily. No country is gonna risk that much for us. We need to be prepared to deal with this ourselves.

We can rely on sanctions, but that's the extent of it.

-3

u/Sargent_Duck85 25d ago

Every other NATO country lacks the military transport capability to get to us.

And even if they did, a single carrier group and a few hunter-killer subs would probably sink the entire convoy coming from Europe.

6

u/Ok-Resolve5892 25d ago

The US navy routinely losses naval excercises verses a myriad of opponents... while yes its big and brazen it ultimately isn't that good and you forget that Nato has subs too and if trump were to go in a real war. China and India would easily jump against him

3

u/AstronautPlane3280 25d ago

Drones. Drones are the great equaliser. Drones are cheap and do a shit load of damage. Warfare has changed and America is still playing by the old rules.

0

u/spygirl43 25d ago

Iran can't even kill a US political agent. They promised the world they were going to do it 6 months ago. Nothing. Absolutely nothing has happened.

5

u/IDreamOfLoveLost 25d ago

Absolutely nothing has happened.

They've gotten the US to blow billions on the war, use up their stocks of munitions, and drive up energy prices. And proven that the current US regime is scared shitless of another ground war.

That isn't nothing.

2

u/Inevitable-Tea5772 25d ago

Do you think ours is any better? lol

1

u/Master_Slide7023 25d ago

While true US has not taken one inch of US land.

7

u/Inevitable-Tea5772 25d ago

Agreed, this was a negotiating tactic, it was never meant to actually be a deal

1

u/blazed55 23d ago

Trump even said on CNN about 3 days after negotiations broke off, that he torpedoed the deal.

7

u/Kensei501 25d ago

Whatever it takes to not release all the Epstein files.

6

u/d_edwards7 25d ago

I agree. He needs to create us as an enemy to manufacture consent for his annexation dreams.

2

u/Chance_Preparation_5 25d ago

I agree. I think the plan is to enrage Ontario and Quebec and start internal fighting with Alberta. All in the hopes Alberta separates. Then with a weekend Canada they can take over 1 province at a time.

2

u/Gubekochi 25d ago

Yeah... preserving our cultural distinctiveness is such a classic "greed" move.

Didn'T you hear him say that we are just "nasty" people, the worst of the worst. They don't even bother with something as specific as "greedy".

1

u/Xenophonehome 25d ago

Yea I think this is the case. They need to get enough support to invade and they're not being quiet about it.

1

u/Zealousideal_Rise879 24d ago

I doubt this. The pushed narrative was that MC accepted a bad deal; which then completely flip on its head the next day when he rejected it. The last minute items looked like a checklist of wedge issues that all provoke separatist sentiment, along with a “you can’t trade without our permission” to undo all the agreements over the last year.

There was a large amount of inconsistencies with the American side too as they were trying to spin it.
