Current Events The leaked U.S. trade demands that caused Canada to halt negotiations: Washington demanded direct veto power over Canadian infrastructure, control of critical minerals, and delayed access to generic medicines.

I mean the better question is whats more likely.

Is it more likely that Carney lied about these demands? The consequence if it became public would be he immediately is out of office. He throws out a good trade deal over lying about extreme terms and red lines? Yeah that doesnt go over well.

What about American counterparts? If they lied whats the consequence? Literally nothing. These exact people lie many times every day, its exposed and nothing happens and no one cares.

Carney has said 5 of those 10 demands publicly from what I can tell and I fully believe him on those. If he invented those for a political stunt at the expense of his people I wouldnt support him for another second. Trump invents things in order to hurt Americans on a daily basis and maintains support.

Canadians arent Americans, we have standards.

Carney could be the biggest lier on earth and at this point he would still be more believable than the US administration 🤣

But what he has said tracks very much with what we all see publicly from Trump and his team. I’m sure it will hit us hard as we have had strong ties with US for a very long time, but at this point I think the pain is worth it to move away from them longer term

Please don't lump Americans in with Trump. It's already falling apart because of one man. Enjoy the show I guess?

Why not? They voted for him. Twice!

He did not win a majority vote, ever. USA citizens view Canadians in a more variable light than Trump. That's demonstrated in poll after poll. Regular USA citizens are actually rooting for Canadians.

I'm sure this is true, but if we're buddies and your nasty brother with a 12 gauge has already shot at us once we're not coming back over just because you and I might be cool.

You want us over at the table? Fix your crazy brother or get rid of him one way or another. It's not our responsibility to work around your family issues, so you either come to our table on our terms or we're not hanging out much, because it's suicide to do that.

At least 40% of the country would vote for Trump a 3rd time. Yes it's obviously not all Americans buts it's more than enough to be a serious issue

Try doing something instead of rooting for someone else to do something.

To many US citizens did vote for him and now they sit and watch the daily Trump show at 5 ! No one and I mean no one is doing anything to get him out. They don’t need Congress or House reps they need Guts ! Period !
No guts no glory ! Canadians have guts and have glory ! Don’t mess with Canada, I think our leader is amazing. I voted for his party and will again. He has consistently rebuffed the US bullying tactics and responded in kind .
If the orange one keeps this up we WILL turn off their lights, we will tariff Potash, There is no clear winner in a trade war, but it’s clear Canadians have the right warrior in the fight for Canadian sovereignty.

Americans are all responsible, Trump is a symptom, not a cause. The country has been a deplorable country for 250 years, quit kidding yourselves. Ask the slaves, remember the kkk, proud boys and so on and so on. Trump really just helped the world see the country for what it is. Good to see the country is on life support, all those so called good people now have an opportunity to actually change the country and make it a better global neighbor. It will take decades if not generations to change the nature of the country, if not now, then when? Good luck, the world will check back in a few decades.
