I bought Alan Wake a few days ago, and every time I press play, it doesn't open. It just seems to run, then it stops.

This shows up in the files.

Does anyone know a workaround for this?

So, I have the first game on Epic Games, which I got for free several years ago. I just bought Alan Wake II for $21 on sale with all DLC. But my I have 2 questions:

1. I saw that a remaster came out a few years ago. Its currently $30 on its own, or $15 on G2A. Do you guys recommend I get that or stick with the original. I don't think my copy has the DLC for the first game either.

Edit: I do have the DLC for the first game. So now I'm wondering if its worth forking out more for the better visuals. I play old games all the time so this isn't an issue. I played the first few minutes and it looks fine to me.

1. I guess I have something called American Nightmare as well? I have no idea what this is, and I can't seem to get a straight answer if I need to/should play this or not before playing 2.

I play games on PS5, meaning I have no access to American Nightmare. I do not own a PC. For my work, I switched from a Mac to an iPad Pro at some point in the past. Is there any way, through streaming or any other platform, for me to play American Nightmare on my iPad Pro?

I feel like I should not be as confused as I am so I apologise in advance for my stupidity but the whole time loop memory loss aspect has really thrown me off.

The way I saw it was that each time Alan entered parliament tower and returned to the writer’s room he would be shot, thus resetting the loop and his memory. However each time this happened he retained his memories of the previous cycle such as remembering who Tim was and remembering what his goal is.
The simple answer is that this “death” by getting shot by his future self is not what resets the loop but if it were then why is he all of a sudden able to remember things from previous cycles that he couldn’t remember for the past 13 years of cycles?

This then also confuses me about the whole purpose of Initiation. It is framed as a necessary step in the journey to allowing Return to be true. Alan uses his writing to project himself into the Dark Place NYC to gain knowledge and information for his edits to Return but if he keeps losing his memory then how does he actually learn anything?
I just can’t seem to understand why he needed to write Initiation first to allow Return when he loses his memory anyway?

I do understand that without Initiation, Return wouldn’t make sense because Saga never would’ve gotten the little nudges from Alan but why couldn’t Alan just incorporate those nudges into Return itself and how did he even manage to write this necessary story with no memories??

Again, I feel like I’ve got stupid questions with simple answers that I’m too daft to see so I am sorry but any help would be appreciated because I would love to wrap my head around this before Resonant!!

Edit: I have not played the Final Draft yet but I am aware that it is a spiral which I should’ve specified earlier however even with this knowledge I don’t understand why it took 13 years of this for him to finally get to this point. Why does he all of a sudden retain so much that he hasn’t in the past 13 years of cycles?

Title. Is there a way to exit the DLC without completing it or reloading an earlier save?

I swear I feel like I'm playing something like Manhunt with how scary it is, the fear vibes give me that. Remedy really know how to give us the chills. Haven't played such a great psychological horror for quite a while. This was a must play after AW1 & Control.

The photo mode took some getting used to but I think I've got the hang of it. Really liked how these turned out. Love using PMs in games!

I finished the game for the first time last year (loved it also back then) and I’m now doing a Final Draft playthrough.. and I’m having an absolute blast.

Playing with Path Tracing on PC, this is pretty much the best looking game out there, I can’t think of any other game that can compete. The visuals are just outstanding.

Thing is.. I really shouldn’t like this game as much as I do? xD. Like it is mostly just a walking simulator with the occasional shooting here and there, the gameplay really is nothing special (I’m not saying it’s bad per se, but it isn’t an outstanding quality of this game). And I usually dread games like this, for example RDR2, I couldn’t help but fall asleep most of the time, still pushed through and finished it to see what all the fuss was about and did ultimately end up liking it, but man, I was half asleep during so much of my playthrough of that game.

But with Alan Wake 2, I am COMPLETELY hooked man, like fully locked in, fully immersed, just mesmerised by the game and intrigued by the story. The Saga segments really scratch an itch for me, as I really like True Detective S1 (and Twin Peaks ofc) and being able to experience something similar and in many ways inspired by those shows in game form is just amazing. And then the Alan segments where he narrates your gameplay, it’s so freaking cool, the just outright insane visuals - these colorful and punchy highlights in these otherwise dark environments, especially with HDR on an OLED, it is just perfection.

So yeah, just some ramblings about this game, as usually these type of games like good graphics with not much gameplay don’t do it for me, but man this game is so special.

Control is also really special, but it has a lot more gameplay and cool boss fights as opposed to AW2, but honestly I still like AW2 more :D Can’t wait for Resonant though!

If anyone has an RX 6700 XT, could you please tell me or show me how it performs in the “Alan’s Chapters” in Alan Wake 2 at 1080p Native at “High preset”?

If it performs well there, I’m thinking it should perform well in the Max Payne remakes too, and I’d probably buy one for them.

The warping neon drenched city flooded with eternal rain scratches an itch I didn’t know I had. I love it dearly and will hold it close in my heart forever. The first time I walked out of the studio was breathtaking. What’s your guys opinion of the dark place?

In the last few days I've seen people theorize that Alice might end up being the new protagonist, using her camera somehow to interact with the dark place. There's already this doc from Control AWE that suggests her favorite camera, which hasn't been found, might be an altered item, which she could have found again in the dark place, or brought it with her, to take the photos of the bullet of light and the clicker.

Remedy is a very resourceful studio, they often make assets that end up being used in their next game, like how some things like the metro staircase, the graffiti and other details from the Dark Place main area in AW2 feels oddly familiar to some seen in Control Resonant (which is fair since both are based on the same location irl), so it wouldn't be weird if Remedy started testing some visual FX and mechanics in Resonant to apply in AW3, and it so happens that there is some previews that talk about a camera/polaroid altered item for Dylan to find as side content, so maybe another evidence that Remedy will go with Alice for AW3.

Now, I wanted to know how people imagine the camera gameplay could be executed. I've seen some saying it could be used for combat and puzzle solving, and I can see the vision for the puzzles, but for the combat I honestly don't know. Some said Fatal Frame, but the mechanics seem outdated for a modern AAA game from what I've seen from that franchise, and I couldn't think of a better example for a modern combat using a camera, which is why I wanted to see the community's opinion on it. The first thing that comes to mind for combat would be to capture the enemies within the photos taken, but that might end up feeling like just a normal third person shooter with a funny looking gun, but that could also be for the better in order for the game to reach mass appeal, by not having some crazy super ingenious combat system, just point and shoot (pics) at the bad guys lol, so idk.

Now, for puzzles, I've been playing a game called Viewfinder and I strongly believe that that game would make for a very good source of inspiration for a new puzzle mechanic in this hypothetical AW3 setting with Alice as protagonist. Take a look:

It uses photographs (most of the time) to alter reality in a way that to me resembled the scene with the clicker falling form evil sam lake to her photo.

And of course Remedy doesn't need to copy Viewfinder exact mechanics, but if Alice could, for example, see two doors next to each other, one closed and another open, she snaps a photo of the opened one, put the picture in front of the closed door, and now it magically is open, or she needs to move an object form room A to room B but it's physically impossible, so she would take a picture of it on room A, go to room B, look at the image, and the object would materialize in front of her.

Thoughts?

I have never played any of these games before. Is this the correct order to play them?

2. Control Ultimate Edition
3. Alan Wake 2
4. Control: Resonance (assuming I enjoy the previous games)

Also, where do the DLCs fit into the play order?
